How do you screw up a simple hotel stay. #1 - only one ice maker and it's broke. Too much trouble for the staff to go get some ice for the 10 people staying here. #2 - The heater heats up the room, and then goes into a cooling mode and the room is all cold again. You have to continuously keep changing the termostat to keep heat coming out. #3 - Who did you get for your simple electrical wiring? 5 things plugged into one outlet and another outlet 14 inches below with nothing in it. #4 - Breakfast: the eggs were ok (made better with the sausage gravy on them). The waffle maker wasn't turned on. Had to turn on myself and wait 15 mins for it to heat up. The biscuits were cold and hard. Cheap plastic ware. #5 - The window to the room was opened (temps in the 30's). Ground floor so easy for someone to gain access.

Inexpensive, so there's that! Shady looking guests, but hey they can't necessarily control that. One lady put a rock in the side door to keep it from latching. I kicked it out..oops. But what really made me sad was the shower, I didn't even love the curtain when I turned it on, climbed in and BAM hair on the wall and tub...not mine. Then the tub filled as I showered...gross in an uncleaned communal room. I've managed housecleaning departments at hotels, and I would be disappointed in my staff for what I saw.

I was a little worried about this small elevator-less hotel, but it turns out I didn't need to be. From the moment I walked in I was treated like royalty. When the friendly young man behind the counter saw I was an elite member he upgraded me to a suite. Thank you! As I walked thru the hotel to my room everything looked new and recent remodeled. When I opened the door to my room the "new room smell" hit me. Everything looked modern and new in there. I also appreciated the fridge and microwave. I hate using ice buckets. The location of the hotel is great. I chose this hotel because it was the cheapest "good one" within walking distance to where the Megabus drops off (Coralville Transit Center). You can walk to the Iowa River Landing area which is full of shops and restaurants. You can also walk the other way towards the Iowa River Power Restaurant and cross the pedestrian bridge there to Iowa City. Breakfast was the standard free breakfast that included waffles. It filled me up. The view from my room was of an oil tank storage field, but I wasn't there for the view. I was there for a nice, quiet, clean, modern room, and this hotel not only met, but exceeded my expectations. Good price and highly recommended.

My wife and I are long-time, active members of the Hilton Honors Program, and we choose Hilton…read moreproperties whenever possible because we typically receive excellent service and consistency. Unfortunately, this experience did not reflect the standards we have come to expect from the Hilton brand. We arrived at the hotel on Friday, December 5th, for a large, two-day wrestling tournament taking place across the highway from the hotel. Many of the team's families were staying at this same property. We initially booked our stay for two nights with plans to depart Sunday morning. Prior to the incident in question, there were a few minor maintenance issues in our room (a showerhead needing replacement and a couple of broken items), as well as some snow accumulation on walking surfaces outside. However, these were not major concerns. The hotel itself was clean, quiet, and comfortable, and all staff we encountered up to that point were friendly and professional. As the tournament progressed on Friday, the weather forecast for a minor snowstorm quickly escalated into a significant storm expected to hit the Iowa City metro area by 6:00 PM on Saturday, December 6th. Due to safety concerns, the tournament organizers adjusted the schedule to conclude much earlier than planned so families could travel safely. In our fifteen years of traveling for wrestling, this is only the second time we have ever seen a tournament schedule changed mid-event due to weather. Given the seriousness of the forecast, my wife and I made the decision to leave immediately after the tournament concluded rather than risk traveling during the storm. On Saturday morning at approximately 8:00 AM, as we were leaving for the tournament, I spoke with the front desk receptionist and explained our situation and weather-related safety concerns. I asked whether we could cancel the second night of our stay. The receptionist acknowledged the concern and told me she could not process it herself, but that the manager would be able to assist once he or she arrived. At her request, I left my name and phone number for a return call. At 11:30 AM, having received no call, I contacted the front desk again. I was reassured once more that this would not be an issue and that the manager would contact me upon arrival. At 1:30 PM, as the tournament was concluding and we were preparing to leave town, I called again to resolve the matter before departing. At this point, the tone and information from the front desk changed completely. The receptionist became rude and dismissive and informed me that the manager would NOT be coming in and would NOT assist with the request whatsoever. I asked multiple times for a return call from management and was explicitly told that no call would be made. The abrupt change in communication, combined with the unprofessional and rude behavior shown during this final interaction, was extremely disappointing. Given the legitimate safety concerns related to a major winter storm and the multiple reassurances provided earlier in the day, I believe our request to cancel the unused second night was both reasonable and justified. At a minimum, we feel we are entitled to: - A return phone call from hotel management, and - Reimbursement for the unused second night due to the documented weather emergency and early departure. We have always trusted the Hilton brand for consistent service and professionalism, and it is our sincere hope that this matter will be reviewed and resolved appropriately.

The landscaping is neat. The staff is very professional but where they need work is replacing some of the beyond wore chairs in the sleeping quarters, more professional signage throughout the worn carpeted hallways for rooms marked for staff instead of elementary handwritings, replacement of some of the chipped tables in other words it's time to spend some money on needed well worn furnishings and signage that signifies the Hilton Brand. Even with those shortcomings it is still close to the campus, and hospital offering clean standard rooms, and has a connected private restaurant which is good for those crowded game days where you want to retreat to your place of relaxation and yet still be a part of the "Go Hawks" atmosphere.

A day after arriving the weather service issued a winter weather warning for up to 12 inches of snow and advised against traveling on the last day we were there. Because of this, we asked to check out a day early. Management would not refund the last night we were supposed to have stayed despite the travel warning. I understand if we just wanted to leave early, but in weather emergencies, I would think they would be flexible. We will not stay there again. Update: Melissa made things right. I appreciate her help!

We were assigned a room that was already occupied. Not a big deal, but kind of a surprise that this had not been caught by the front desk. We were reassigned to another room, which was clean and had everything we expected although there seemed to be a bit of a problem with continuously running water in the toilet which was reported to the front desk for their attention. The equipment in the fitness room was in need of attention and there were no disinfectant wipes to clean equipment before after use. Most of the weights were missing so work out was a bit of a challenge. Fitness windows, room surfaces, etc. we're in need of a good cleaning. No towels available for use either. The indoor swimming pool was closed with no explanation as to why or when it would be open again. There was a large laundry room with three sets of washers and dryers however there was debris on the floor that appears to have been there for quite awhile. Several staffers were in the lobby early in the morning, and one was conducting a personal phone conversation on their own phone. No problem with that, however, they were having a rather lewd and loud conversation with someone at the other end of the phone that was not appropriate for the work environment and definitely not in public. Breakfast was pretty basic but they began running out of food towards the end of breakfast hours, and did not seem to be eager to replenish anything for the folks that were coming in to eat. The pandemic is over let's have some real cutlery and get rid of the blasting stuff! A number of the exterior door locks to the building we're not functioning which prevented parking on the backside of the building unless you wanted to walk all the way around to get in the front door. Not a bad stay, but alot of little things in need of attention at this location to bring it up to the high expectation we have for Marriott Hotel brand.
