I had been in São Paulo for a only two weeks for research when my hard drive failed on my newer laptop (1). I kept trying to schedule an appointment with the Genius Bar at the one Apple Store in the city, but the site kept saying appointments could not be made. I called them as well, only to have to deal with an automated system over and over and be subjected to long hold times. I never had the opportunity to speak to a human being. Fortunately, my husband came to visit and was able to bring my older laptop (2) as backup. I sent laptop 1 back to the States with him and kept laptop 2. Then, just days after coming back from a research trip to Rio, the hard drive failed on laptop 2. You can imagine my panic.
A friend of mine who was also in Sampa for research had recently visited FJR to have her computer fixed and sent me their info. I visited their Vila Madalena location on Monday afternoon, explained the problem, and was told they would run a diagnostics test to figure out what was going on and that it could take up to three working days, and one the problem was discovered that it could take up to two weeks to repair. I buckled myself up for what I thought would be a very long wait.
The next day, I received information on the problem and a repair estimate, the latter of which was very reasonable considering i would need a new hard drive. I asked them about another type of hard drive (solid state...as the sensitivity of the regular hard drives were the source of my frequent hard drive failures while traveling), and they sent me information within minutes and a new cost estimate within the hour. I told them to proceed with the repairs using the latter hard drive and I got an email in less than 24 hours that my computer had been repaired and was ready for pickup.
Their diagnostic and turnaround time was better than I've experienced for larger repairs at the Apple Stores in both (Chelsea) NYC and (Reston), VA...and that's saying a lot considering I have had good experiences with these Apple Stores! The guys at FJR are incredibly professional, helpful, communicative, and fast. I highly recommend them to anyone who needs service on their Apple products while here in São Paulo!
