Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by local shops and Asian restaurants, Qima gives the impression of being both a hot-spot and cozy local coffee shop, all in one. The selection of high-quality specialty coffees and deliciously eye-catching pastries - while pricey - probably means you'll want to make more than one trip here.
They also have a humanitarian side and proudly display their causes, like the 'One Tree Per Cup,' where they help farmers gain access to suitable coffee trees to ensure the coffee trade continues to flourish.
My favorite aspect of this place is the unique nature of their specialty lattes. No tumeric or powdery chai here. They offer inspired concoctions like the Saint Ali Mokha, which harmonizes the sweetness of figs with the strong notes of Yemen coffee, with a touch of chocolate at the end to bring it all together. Even their matcha goes beyond your average powdered mixture, as they're using ceremonial-grade matcha sourced straight from organic tea gardens and making it fizzy, tangy, and delicate.
Their pastries are also up to snuff and go above and beyond your typical croissants and cakes; although they have those, too. My favorites are the Espresso Bean-shaped mousse, Colombian coffee sack-shaped pastry with tropical flavors, and the Mongolian coffee bun. All different, and all pack a delicious punch in their own right.
If all of this sounds too overwhelming, fear not! They also have your everyday pourovers, lattes, cappuccinos, and yes, the almighty Flat White.
Seating is ample, and the space is relaxed, so don't be afraid to come in and stay a while. Yes, that includes your four-legged friends, as well. read more
