My spouse and I are traveling in Italy and have found people in general and sales people in particular warm and gracious. Today, an attendant at the Q8 gas station near Florence airport was so extraordinary kind; it melted my heart and made me resolve to be nicer to tourists in my own home town.
We had filled up the rental car and were on our way to return it except we got lost. Round and round we went in confusion until I began worrying the car wouldn't be full anymore. Then we found ourselves back at Q8. Half embarrassed and all frustrated, I asked the attendant where the car rental kiosks were. He gave me an excellent map they had made for this very purpose to help people just like us. Imagine someone went through the trouble of making these custom maps showing drivers how to get from the gas station to the car rental return! It's not like tourists returning rental cars and flying out are highly likely to return to the station. Is this excellent service or altruism? read more
