Just Red is a small family run business in one of the best growing areas of the Granite Belt. As their name suggests, they only produce "just red" wine. My husband is very particular on his reds, considering he grew up in and around the Barossa Valley of South Australia. Even he thought that they were on par with Barossa reds and was highly impressed with the vineyards, winemaking techniques used and the quality produced. I myself was not a big drinker of reds but I do like my ports and fortified wines. They do an amazing "daily red" which is a Shiraz and it is very drinkable on a daily basis (hence the name). Their Nikki's Vineyard Syrah is another type of Shiraz and is stunning. My pick though is their "Sweet Merlot". This is just devine and very much like a port but not as rich. If you prefer sweet wines, this is definitely a great pick. If and when you go to the region, definitely drop in an have a tasting. I can pretty much guarantee you will be leaving with a case or two .... or three of these amazing, well crafted and well produced wines!!

I have to say - it is well worth the 20 minute drive in the dark out of Stanthorpe for this! The food - to say the least - was some of the best I have had in a very long time. My starter (selection of antipasto) were all local ingredients from the Ballandeean/Stranthorpe region and was absolutely mind blowing. My partner's starter (bread with balsamic and olive oil) was just as deliecious. Baked on site and the oil and balsamic came from a local producer was just incredible. The balsamic was the nicest I have had ever. My main (pork belly) was melt in your mouth fabulous. My partner had the steak and he said it was the best steak he had had in a restaurant ever. He is even more harder to please than fussy old me! He asked for his steak medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. Both the pork belly and the steak came from local farms. Dessert we shared a chocolate and muscat pudding which was just gorgeous (again all local ingredients). I could have eaten two of them! My partner is not a fan of Queensland wines (he is from South Australia) but decided to try their Shiraz and loved it. He said it was on par with the SA wines. This place is an absolute must if you are in the Stanthorpe / Ballandean region.

I also had the Sirloin steak with pan fried gnocchi and my partner enjoyed the Pork belly with petit pears. The service, shiraz and meals were all top notch. We were so full and happy when we left. We can't wait to go back!
