East Links is a nice farm/theme park/petting zoo just outside Dunbar. You just can't miss it…read morebecause there is a large brown castle with 4 towers sporting the English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish flags. They have various animals that I have never seen before like lamas, rheas, wallabies and even a highland cow! A newborn baby donkey was born on Monday and it was so cute when I saw it while we whizzed past on the train. You even get to feed baby lambs in the petting area which is the cutest thing ever! The fortress is good and has large freefall chutes going to the bottom which are really fast and I actually had to hold onto the sides to slow me down a bit! There are rat tunnels (which are very dark and scary), nets, bridges, ropes and a ramp to the top if you feel lazy. On the 4 towers, there are cannons which you can shoot tennis balls out of. There are 3 go-kart tracks, 2 of which are for small children but the one behind the fortress is for hardcore teenage drivers, like me! There is also mini golf (tokens are required to hire balls) and an indoor ball shooting arena. The prices are a bit ridiculous for the size of the place. It is about £15 per head and you will need to pay even more once you get inside (the tearoom, shops, animal feeding dispensers and golf ball dispensers charge you.) The tearoom was actually quite nice for a theme park café but the prices were quite steep! I was charged £4 for a bottle of Irn Bru and a honeycomb traybake. Ridiculous prices. The food was good though and it was the first time I had ever tasted Irn Bru. It doesn't taste as orangey as it looks. It's like Fanta with a weird vanilla twist to it. The toilets are straight ahead as you enter and they were clean with no bad smells, plenty of soap and hot water that was actually hot. The Dyson Airblade dryers worked fine too. I will be back at East Links in the summer because I didn't actually get to see everything in one day! The sweet shop on the way out is not to be missed too.

East Links farm is a brilliant, well priced day out for all the family…read more At first glance it seems quite small, but further investigation proves differently! There are animals to see, horses to feed, a train ride to be taken, trampolines to be jumped on, a hay barn to be hidden in and much, much more. You can buy animal feed and bird feed to use at your discretion I believe it was only around 25p a portion which was great. The onsite shop is small but lovely with a small range of reasonably priced items. There is a huge barn with tables for picnic consuming which is a blessing with Scotland's weather! We really enjoyed our visit and would go back any time. Highly recommended!

I've written about Tyninghame Beach before. But next door lies the John Muir Country Park, which is…read morea conservation area named after the father of preservation in the US, who was born in Dunbar in the 19th century. He fought to save Hetch Hetchy (but sadly lost), Yosemite, Muir Woods... the world would be a poorer place without his legacy (amongst others, of course). It's a place for walking your dogs (apart from the salt marshes where walking is requested to be limited to the dry walkways at the outskirts), capturing some of that beauty we all fall for in East Lothian, or perhaps a picnic on the beach. For me, I picked a blustery day to take in a more atmospheric effect - however that also resulted in fantastic gusts of sand billowing across the beach and howling winds, which resulted in a sandblasted shadow of my former self. Despite the tribulations of feeling at times almost literally being held up by the wind, fighting to breathe and bracing against sand slamming through every fibre of my clothing, it remains the same - a lovely place for a walk. As it is flat, it is pretty accessible for all levels of fitness (although less so for wheelchair access - that i think is much more limited to the gravel paths where found). So stay, enjoy and perhaps think about the legacy that has been made, and what we will leave for others in the future.

This is a great place for Scottish scenery and walks the only drawback with this place is the dogs…read moremess as every dog owner in East Lothian seems to use it. That aside it is beutiful.

Wow, what an amazing place. Me and my friends son had arranged to go here for the day. We arrived…read moreat 1.30pm. The place is about 30miles outside Edinburgh. We arrived and we checked in, we were then given wetsuits and went to get changed. The changing rooms were very basic and the changing rooms didn't have doors, but curtains which made it a little difficult to get changed if you minded everyone seeing your bum. Once ready we got our life jackets and helmets and we were set for the day. First up was the foxfall, which is an assault course above water. You have no harness so if you fall you are in the water. There are 4 courses ranging from easy (which I thought was still pretty hard) to really hard. The final part of the course is the zipline where you end up in the water. This was great fun and you got 50 mins to go round it. After this we did wakeboarding. They do 15 minute slots as you can get tired quickly. I had tried wakeboarding before at loch Lomond behind a boat, but couldn't do it. Foxlake use a zipline which makes it a little easier. They say if they don't manage to get you up you'll get your money back, so it's a win win situation. My friends boy is amazing at wakeboarding so the girl (also called Eilidh) helping us have him some tips and supported him to manage a few of the jumps. When I was on Eilidh was really supportive and encouraging, she really was great. We then finished off the day doing Ringo, which is where you lie on an inflatable flat thing and get pulled along the water. This was great fun and we were able to do this together and we had a right laugh doing the challenges that we were set. The showers were pretty poor and if someone is using the other shower you literally get a little trickle. After we got changed we got a hot chocolate from the little cafe bar. This was reasonably priced and looked lovely and clean with a cute tearoom feel. This place caters for the whole family. I would say kids aged 7/8 up would love this place, as well as adults. Also would be really good for hen and stag parties if you fancy doing something different.

The Foxfall is like a mini Go-Ape except you are suspended above water and your only protection is your helmet and your buoyancy jacket. I think I fell in twice while completing it. The green and blue courses are for beginners but the red and black courses are not for the faint of heart! They are very fast paced and the elements are very difficult to get past. (Especially the climbing wall) The Ringo is next to Foxfall and it is so fun! An attendant sits in a seat and drags you up and down the lake with their remote control. I would recommend holding on tight to the handles because it moves very fast and I almost fell of the raft at one point! The attendant will make you do some challenges like sitting on your knees, lying on your back, riding on it without holding on and jumping into the lake at the deep end. After you jump in, you hold on to the raft and they will drive you back onto the docks. The low ropes course isn't as exciting as the water activities but it's still pretty decent. There are 4 ropes and you have to try and get from one end to the other. There are various rules such as only 2 people from 1 team can be on the ropes at one time. There is a café called The Boardside which actually looked quite good for a coffee kiosk in an amusement park. It is just a tiny hut, and the seating is benches by the Ringo lake. The toilets and changing facilities were ok. They are part of the same block, so if you are in the toilets, you will hear the noise from the changing room next door. Also if someone turns on a shower in the changing room, the water pressure from the taps in the bathroom will lower. I wish that the changing room cubicles had proper doors because the shower curtains are very flimsy and don't properly close. I will return to Foxlake in the future but I'm sure it must get very busy in the summer! Since the park was privately booked for our trip, I think it was a one-off occasion that it was so empty.
