Horrible experience as a first time class. Poor communication. Staff really didn't seem to care if I joined or not.

I have been a member of Club Pilates since they opened and in fact just celebrated my 100th class…read more I am going to try and not make this a long post, but I feel that my background also plays a big part of my review and feelings about this place. I was a certified fitness instructor for over six years and have a strong fitness background. Well after years of high intensity training and an extremely crazy schedule my body gave out on me. I ended up being diagnosed with an underactive thyroid, chronic fatigue syndrome, insomnia.... well you get the point. Bottom line I was a hot mess and felt absolutely awful. Because of health issues my workouts suffered and I was no longer able to do what was once simple exercises. I wanted to become stronger again and gain the stamina I once had. When the studio first opened, I was open to trying this and seeing how my body responded and I am so pleased with my results, strength and progress. I love this place. The instructors are phenomenal, patient and offer modifications based on your personal ability and even though I complain that they kick my booty sometimes (which I love by the way), that's exactly what I need and the reason why I am there. As far as the customer service as mentioned in previous reviews, I personally have had no issues and feel that when I do have questions, they are resolved/answered quickly and in a friendly manner. Understand that at any establishment there will be growing pains or individuals that have a different experience, but do not let that deter you from giving a place a try and making your own determination. As a business owner myself, I understand that often times individual personalities, including perception dictates individual experiences. Just keep that in mind when you read reviews!

Mind you, not one of the employees have ever addressed me about issues. They would always say hello, and I would carry on about my work out. I never talked to anyone, bothered anyone, and I always cleaned up after myself. I brought my own mat once and was told the policy, and I quickly apologized and returned it to the car. So for that I was very confused to get a call from a man talking to as if I am a child, and proceeded accuse me of constant rude behavior from previous employees. My boyfriend and I are both minority people, and were the only minority people in there anytime we went so I just cant help to wonder if the issue was never with me and always a personal problem. Not to mention this man called another location I go to, to request I be banned. Long story short, profiling and racism is still very much alive. 0/10

I…read moreintentionally scheduled both surgeries within the same calendar year so my insurance deductible and annual out-of-pocket maximum would be met once. I explained my strategy to S2S at the 1st therapy appointment. They said this will not be an issue, and they dealt with similar situations all the time. Everything proceeded without issue until about October 2021. When I checked in for my appointment, I was told I owed a copay, despite my out-of-pocket maximum having already been satisfied. I immediately raised the concern, questioned why I owed this charge, but paid it anyway. I explained my strategy to S2S again, and said that I will not pay any out of pocket expense during 2021, and that we should cancel any future appointments until this was resolved. I was told it must be an error on BCBS's end, and they would get it taken care of, and that I needed the therapy, so please continue my scheduled appointments. They told me at my next appointment that BCBS said I had exceeded my maximum allowed sessions for the year, but not to worry. They would get another prescription from my Surgeon for additional therapy, and I would not be charged anything. I suggested cancelling that appointment until they received the prescription, and BCBS had approved it. They assured me that I would not be charged anything, and they were 100% confident they would handle it. Based on these clear and repeated assurances, I continued treatment in good faith. At no point during my visits was I informed of an outstanding balance, provided documentation of charges, or told payment would be required. After a few more visits, when checking in, I asked for an update. I was told that I had a balance, and that they had been adding charges every time I came. I was very upset, reminded them of our many conversations about this, & cancelled that appointment, and any future appointments. They kept pressuring me to continue my therapy. I told them that if & when they get these charges removed and provided me with written assurance that I owed nothing, then I would return. I never heard anything from S2S until several months later. I was contacted by their accounting department and informed that I had a balance of nearly $700. I again explained the prior assurances made by management. I was told the matter would be reviewed and that I would be contacted if there was an issue. I never heard anything else from S2S, until more than a year of no communication. It was their accounting department asking if I contact BCBS and appeal their case and try to get BCBS to agree to pay the balance. I agreed to help, and spent almost 4 hours working directly with my insurance provider trying to appeal the charges, but was unsuccessful. I promptly relayed this information to S2S. They thanked me for trying and hung up. I assumed that was the end of it. Nearly four years after treatment, I was contacted by Meredith Tittle (the owner) offering me a payment plan, despite the prior assurances that these charges would never be my responsibility. I informed Meredith (in detail) about every conversation I had with her people. Soon thereafter, the account was sent to collections and reported to the credit bureaus, but the new amount is over $1,000. This dispute is not about ability to pay--it is about reliance on repeated representations made by staff who stated they had authority and assured me I would not be charged. Those assurances were the sole reason I continued treatment. My advice to others is simple: do not rely on verbal assurances from S2S regarding billing or insurance coverage--get everything in writing.

Unfortunately, just one week later I had an emergency appendectomy, so we froze our membership. Three months after that, I needed back surgery--and this time, they refused to freeze it. Instead, they told us to quit because it "wasn't worth" paying $25 a month to hold the membership. We were still charged for the following month and lost all of those classes. On top of that, even when we tried to book classes, most were already full, making it extremely difficult to use the membership we were paying for. One of our very first classes was accidentally booked as one of the hardest levels. We didn't know, and no one guided us. Instead of supporting us, the instructor called me out in front of everyone, embarrassed me, and then went to the front desk to yell at the staff member--again, in front of my husband and other clients. This studio is not about helping people--they're all about money. Between the lack of compassion, unprofessional behavior, and the difficulty of even getting into classes, this was a deeply disappointing experience.

And you can't be more than 5 minutes late for a class or you can't do that class and you lose your money for that class. You don't get a credit or something, you lose that money. When you sign up, the front desk will not VERBALLY discuss that Club Pilates requires a 3-month minimum contract. They will tell you that if you want to pause or cancel your membership, you need to give 30-days notice and that you must be paid up for the month, but they will never TELL you must pay $180/month for 3 months minimum. And yes, you're initialing and signing things digitally while talking to the front desk staff who are perfectly charming but NEVER stops and explains the 3-month minimum. And there's an early cancellation fee, which they also don't tell you about. I know what you're thinking...I should have read everything that I signed. I agree, I should have. I've honestly never had the experience of entering into a contract without the staff making it ABUNDANTLY clear that you were, indeed, entering into a contract. I heard about the 30-day written notice, but not a contract. Were they willfully opaque about that in order to squeeze a little more money out of me? I can't imagine that this behavior is sanctioned by Club Pilates as a business? Or is it part of their business model? I just know that they're threatening to take me to collections and have called and emailed a distracting number of times, so they're squeezing an extra $180 out of me. Good for them, I guess. I just think that's a really shady business practice and I would recommend spending your money elsewhere.
