Why isn't there a negative star rating? This is what this bakery deserves. First incident. My husband has a gluten allergy so I figured his safest bet was an arepa de choclo. The waitress assured him there was no wheat in the arepa. He even had the waitress check with the baker and no wheat. WRONG!!!! There was wheat in the arepa. He brought a sample of the product and as soon I bit into it, I knew this arepa contained wheat flour in it. Why lie and take the risk of getting someone sick. Are you that greedy? So I tell hubby never to go back, but he does because he's always on the road and this time, he orders an empanada de cambrai. Why not? They looked plump and freshly baked. After he pays and he's well on his way, he opens the bag only to find a flat, stiff and unappetizing empanada de cambrai. The lovely waitress place all the fresh products in the front and the old ones on the back of the tray. People beware!!!!! This place use to be good but there service and quality of food have gone way down. My family and I were there recently and it took forever to get menus and utensils. I ordered a steak and it had no flavor. My husband ordered the breaded chicken and it tasted as if it were fried in old oil. Once we received our food we didnt see the waitress ever again. Terrible service, you don't get treated equally if you aren't their kind , staff is very rude and constantly gave me looks as I ordered I felt very uncomfortable. Mostly mediocre. I was sadly forced to eat here 20 or 30 times because it's where my former boss demanded we eat during Court lunches. The food isn't bad per se, but it's massive quantities of fairly mediocre stuff. I would much rather a smaller portion of something better rather than platefuls of average food that could feed three people. I always felt bad for leaving so much but I didn't want the leftovers and couldn't take it back to court anyway. Service was usually below par as well. The waitstaff don't all speak English (at least in sufficient quantities to take an order) and so they seem to avoid speaking with or dealing with tables where the occupants don't speak Spanish. It's a bit of a nightmare having to wave your arms around like an idiot so someone will help you or get you some water. Tip: The cheese & ham bread from the bakery is pretty delicious. read more

I came to this place a couple of times before with my husband and I thought it was a decent place for a quick meal, plus it looked pretty clean. Well, last time I went (which was last week) it was with a friend and I had my newborn in the car seat. The waitress comes over and tells me that there are no available tables for us with the carseat. I looked around the place and see a couple of people scattered all over the restaurant (parties of 3s using tables meant for 6 people seating right in the middle of the table). I was very unhappy with the fact that the waitress could not accomodate us. The food is ok but not that great that people are lining up to go in there. My family and I have been coming here for years. And it has always been a great experience. It the perfect go to place on a lazy Saturday or Sunday morning. This is amazing Colombian food! Personally I love there Bandeja punto rojo because its a huge meat plate!! Steak, chicken breast all grilled to perfection, crispy chicharon that snaps me plays in your mouth unleashing its tender balance of saltyness. There coffee, fruit shakes, empanadas and tres leches are also worth paying the parking meter. Another plus, is that the staff are all so nice. Our favorite is Julie! She's an awesome person who always takes care of us the moment we step into the restaurant. She never fails to show interest by asking how the family is an she actually remembers everyone by name! My review concerns the bakery portion of the restaurant. They are very stingy with the fillings inside of their traditional Colombian breads. The pan con queso (bread with cheese) will only have about a dime-size amount of cheese inside of a whole loaf. Similarly disappointing is their roscon (guava paste stuffed bread), which has a minuscule amount of guava paste inside of the loaf. Not acceptable. The reason people buy these types of breads is for the fillings, and the breads sold here CONTAIN LITTLE TO NONE. It's ok. Nothing spectacular about it. In the past the staff has been better. Food is so-so. Often tardy. Make sure you are in no particular rush. Most recently had Strawberry Shortcake...it was very good. If you try to go there on a weekend, might have some hard time with seating. Get's pretty crowded. I live around the neighborhood and this restaurant was always the go to spot since it opened! The last few times I came here the food and service were not so good but I always give them the benefit of the doubt and keep coming. The last time I came here I had by far the worst food and service experience I've ever had in a restaurant, which brings me to writing my first yelp review. I came here with a party of 5 for my uncle's birthday dinner on a regular tuesday evening. It took us about 20 mins or more to get the waitress attention to let her know we were ready to order since she was avoiding the table completely when the place was half empty. She helped a number of people who got there after us and gave them their food before us. At this time we didnt think anything of it honestly. I ordered the avocado salad with chicken. She said they didn't have avocado, I said ok, just bring me salad with grilled chicken. I got my salad and asked for dressing and she said they didnt have any. I said ok thats fine. But how can you sell salads and not have dressings? I then start to cut my chicken and the inside was pink/red-ish. How can grilled chicken be raw when chicken is the easiest and fastest thing to cook? I can put up with eating dry or even burnt chicken but not raw. I put the chicken to the side to atleast eat my plain lettuce and once I looked down at my salad, the lettuce edges were brown and wrinkly and looked old. By that time my appetite was gone. I never send food back at any restaurant nor do I complain. I just ended up having a colombiana soda and called it a day. My order wasnt the only bad one, my other 2 uncles had an order with steak and it had a funny taste to it and the rice was soaked and had a puddle of oil on the plate. We felt like we were begging the waitress to help us, like if we were bothering her even when we asked for the bill! We did not get one smile from any person in the restaurant. Not only this time that I came here but maybe the last 5 times I entered this restaurant to get a coffee. By far the worst service and food I ever had, this place used to be great back in the day but now it just lost its edge. I've had too many bad service and food experiences here to even consider it an option anymore and its hard when you live a block away from it. Honestly, I won't even buy a cup of coffee here anymore, I rather get it from any deli that is happy to sell me anything with a smile or even an acknowlegment. read more

this restaurant has a pretty decent decor inside - "red", "rojo." the service staff is very friendly, as this is a bakery/restaurant serving columbian food. think rice and beans. they have good steak dishes, and their portions are huge. the prices are reasonable, and i think the food is above average. i've heard of some cleanliness issues from this restaurant unfortunately, and some of my colleagues have boycotted this establishment because of that. they also have decent salads, and good shakes. you can def reserve some space here, if you want to have a group luncheon. read more

Ive come here for years , I actually drive from LI to Jamaica just for this place because it was soo good !!! My last few times havent been so pleasantly.
