Nothing against the Port of Valencia, the next stop on our BCN - LIS cruise, but we had such a short port day that we did not even have enough time to have lunch. You see, Valencia is the home of Paella and the traditional Valencian paella is made over orangewood fire, with bits of rabbit, chicken, and saffron rice. Most traditional Spanish restaurants don't open for lunch until 1 pm and the leisurely meal will last well after an hour. We needed to be back at the ship between 2 - 2:30 pm and there was no restaurant close to the port that fit the bill. The one I found happened to be closed for the season. We also found a few Mexican spots but that was not what we wanted. My husband and I ended up walking around and we found a coffee roasters to grab a latte at. Despite our best efforts, we couldn't locate a legitimate spot for paella in Valencia which was a bit of a disappointment. read more
