I've only been here 3 or 4 times, but the sandwiches are usually pretty good. I really like their corned beef sandwich. When I'm in Troy, I'm eating lunch at Pudge's. No doubt about it. If you long for when the Breadbasket Deli was its former self (I do), then this place might bring you back. Pudge's serves good breakfast, deli and lunch fare, and also some hearty dinner type food. I always go with a sandwich, fries, and coke. I'm never disappointed, and it seems that the room full of diners is always quite satisfied. The service is personable and solid, and the crowd is very friendly. Love the chicken noodle soup. They have it every day and it never fails. I like the sandwiches and the salads are quite large (even the small salad). The only thing lacking is the cook who must be a newer addition. He really needs to use a meat thermometer when cooking a simple burger. The owner followed me out to my car and proceeded to yell at me and call me obscenities (because I complained about the food). This was My first time here... And last. For starters, I waited for a table as I watched the hostess chat with a customer for a couple minutes. My waitress was very friendly, that's about the only nice thing I have to say about this place which is why it got the 1 star vs zero. I ordered the Greek chicken finger pita. I have no idea what was served to me, but it was not at all what was described on the menu. I was not shy about how dissatisfied I was, the waitress asked if she could get me something else, I told her, no just the bill. She proceeded to tell me there will be no charge, I said that wasn't necessary. I ate very little of the fried breading (there was barely any chicken, it was mostly all batter). I left 5$ on the table. I walk to my car and notice this man staring at me with a very angry expression standing right by the door of the restaurant. I asked if I can help him....He then started yelling at me to never come back, that he's been in business for over 40 years and he doesn't need punks like me in his business. Calling me names that I can't write on yelp. Punks like me? I'm 38 years old, I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt with my (all one color) hair in a bun. Yup. I'm a punk. He started to walk to my car, I started to pull off and he was still coming after me and screaming obscenities. So this is how the owner reacts to a dissatisfied customer? Geesh. My first visit was four stars - I plan to return. I had the most amazing coconut chicken salad in the world. Homemade citrus dressing with the most amazing coconut chicken atop a perfect blend of salad additions. I would have given the place 5 starts if they had no forgot to include the homemade potato chips I paid for and did not get in my carry out bag. My bad for not checking before leaving but the service/wait time was quick and reasonable. The salad was a special so I certainly hope they have it again. To die for! read more

2/3/2016 Update......... The new owners really seem to be turning the place around. Don't have to ask for refills anymore they are on their game for customer service. The few items I have had since the new owners seem to be better. Their corn beef hash is back to the original high standard the original owners maintained. If they keep this up I can see me updating this to 5 stars! 3/29/2015 Update.......... Well we have been here a few more times only to see the service get worse and worse. It's unfortunate as the food is pretty good put if it gets to you cold what's the point? The staff just wanders around like they are in a daze. Original review............. This used to be our "go to" place. Put since the new ownership some things have definitely suffered. Mostly the service has really slid and the place is no where close to being spotless like the last owners kept it. Last time we were their the waitress didn't write down any of our breakfast orders and 3 came out wrong. I asked why she didn't write anything down and she said "I've been a waitress for over 20 years and have never written down and order". It was the first time I had seen her there. The weird part is everyone ordered the same eggs, maybe its time to start writing orders down? We still go there about once a month to see if things change. But we use to go once or twice a week! I think after a couple years of waiting its time to give up. The food is great though and its a shame to see it go down hill like this. They have the same cooks and their great. But when I see the owner bagging up some of the excellent homemade potato chips wearing a glove like she should, answer the phone without removing it and go right back to the chips. You know something is wrong, she was only wearing the glove to protect her hand not her customers. I hope the owners stop standing out back smoking and fix their business! read more

Love Pudges Place. The atmosphere is always friendly with gracious hosts. The Reuben is a favorite but I also recommend the #4. The Chester salad is another go-to for us and get some soup while you're there.. you'll be glad you did. read more

For breakfast- Try the CornBeef Hash, the best in town. I've seen a couple of bad reviews, from here, & I don't know what the heck these people are talking about. (My suggestion for Christine F -from Chicago: You should stick with McDonalds, it sounds like you wouldn't know good food - if it slapped you in the face with a piece of bacon- & everything taste better with a slice of bacon) Try the eggs Benedict w/ corn beef hash- MMMMMMMM The potates cooked with onions, peppers & chunks of corn beef - my mouth is watering :) For lunch- the sandwiches are great & homemade chips, when they are still warm- are awsome. when it actually was Pudge's ... this place was awesome, breakfasts were fantastic, sandwiches big and delightful. Loved the family. Then one day my husband and I went in for our usual after church breakfast and something seemed off ... there were some different people working and it just "seemed" different. Then we got our breakfast ... at first sight, it was literally half the size, my sausage and potatoes were burned ... it just so wasn't Pudge's ( I thought we were at a different restaurant) our waitress was nice enough and got me new items in exchange for the burned ones but we left thinking "boy they had a really off day" then we went back, it was deja vu ... the workers, the food ... the sandwich was not the same ... then a good friend of mine told me a Chinese restaurant owner came in and bought Pudges ... yep, that made sense ... it wasn't Pudges. read more

Most of the food was pretty good provided you don't ask for something special. The two times I ordered carry out breakfast they messed something up. I asked for cheese in the omelette, it was served on top and only covered half the omelette. The next time, I asked for my bacon to be well done, super crispy, but they gave it to me very limp with quite a bit of white fat. I don't think my request are ridiculous. If they could get the food prepared to correctly, I would give them another star. read more

Great family restaurant. The staff is polite, even when you walk in a half hour before they close (we didn't realize it was their early day until we already had our food. Oops) The menu has plenty to offer, breakfast, lunch or dinner. I ordered their Eggs Benedict and it was good. I also tried my husbands clam chowder and again it was good. One of my absolute favorite restaurants in the metro area. I have read some harsh reviews on their breakfasts and I concur their omelets are not their forte but their french toast is absolutely sublime! Another favorite is the Sambuca salad (YUM!!!) or the Julian Salad (or any of their salads, it could be argued salads are their speciality). But that would be misleading because nearly all their other items are outstanding as well and the portions are ample with good prices. read more

They have amazing sandwiches which come with chips, and those are good too. I wish they would offer soup, fries or chips though. I wanted soup and was told it was available for an additional charge. My husband and I went to Pudge's Place last Friday night and had an amazing experience. The food was great and the staff treated us very well. I'll definitely come back again for those Reuben's! The atmosphere was very calm and relaxed. We both couldn't help but notice that our waitress had on boots, which seemed strange and out of place due to my familiarity with management dress codes because of my experience as a server. Altogether, we enjoyed our first dinner at Pudge's and are planning on bringing our whole family sometime in the near future. read more
