I made eye contact with a waiter who ignored me. 4-5 min later I made eye contact with another waiter who told the first guy we wanted service. He came over but didn't say a word - no greeting, no 'what can I get you', nothing. We ordered and drank 2 wines (very cheap - 4 euros for 2 glasses). No one came back by to check on us so I walked inside and the guy bar tender looked at me, turned away and made a joke with another guy at the bar. These guys are jerks. Don't go here.

My fiancé and I came by to get a bottle of rosé as a souvenir for our trip, and the service was excellent. They have a large selection of natural wines and were not snobby about price. I appreciate when people explain wine well without treating non-sommeliers like children or savages. Our positive experience convinced us to swing back around for a nightcap later on in our time in Aix, and I'm so glad we did! The glass of bright pink champagne we enjoyed on their patio was quite possibly the most delicious wine I've ever had. We wanted to take home a bottle, but local liquor laws prevent sale after a certain time of night. If only I could turn back time....

They seated us and menus did have some English which we appreciated ( although we also have translator programs). After a 10 min wait a server came by and frantically told us the kitchen is closed and would not open until 6:30 PM. Not sure then why we got menus but maybe for drink list. We politely said we were going to leave. An employee ( manager?) asked if we'd like to order drinks and told us no other places serve food between 6:30 or 7PM). We thought this sounded fair and returned to our table. No one ever returned to take our order so we left quietly for a second time. Never to return. Was this a language barrier issue ? We're a quiet , polite group of professionals who travel frequently. Hope it wasn't something dumb based on misconceptions of our nationality. Plenty of places to eat and drink in Arles. An unfortunate mistake wasting time at this one.

The address takes you to an industrial looking building with the tenants listed outside. There are no businesses on the ground level - just an elevator to go up. Once you get to the rooftop - what a delight! We didn't have reservations but the hostess was kind enough to sit my family of five because it wasn't too busy. We wanted the best of the view and sat at a table with lots of sun. The restaurant provides complimentary straw hats to keep you protected & cool from the sun. That was a nice touch! Our server spoke very good English to explain the menu and suggest dishes. This is an Italian restaurant in France so we went for the pizza! So good - Primavera and another selection were so fresh, tasty and beaming with ingredients. Cocktails were yummy and overall a great experience. As Black Americans, we felt welcome, safe and appreciated. The building is home to co-working spaces - the restrooms are on the level below with those work units. Very modern, sustainable toilets with sinks that have Dyson fans built in. I noticed this setup throughout Europe. For just an afternoon in Marseille, this was our highlight. I look forward to coming back to enjoy nights in France!

Although the menu was limited at this hour ("You like boeuf, no?"), the execution was superb. Much to our delight, we were presented with two exquisitely prepared filets of beef, cooked rare with a red wine sauce. Trés bon! After desert, the server delivered to our table two glasses and a bottle of liquor filled with some kind of clear spirit and various fruits (it reminded me of moonshine). The server just left the bottle and beckoned us to help ourselves--and there was no charge for it on our bill at the end of the meal either. Throughout the evening, we felt 100% at home and at ease, as if the entire restaurant existed just to serve us. The restaurant was filled entirely with what looked like locals, without a word of English spoken (except by us of course). It was a magical night, and we highly recommend it!

There are a couple of tables outside as well as a couple of tables inside but if you have the possibility - choose a table outside. It's very dark and strange inside. The staff are kind, helpful and attentive. We ordered a bottle of wine and a salmon antipasti and received a nice starter containing bread, tapenade, lilac potato chips (no idea what these were though) and saucisson while we waited for our order. The salmon antipasti contained a very tasty salmon paste, a couple of pieces of ginger bread, smoked salmon (they apparently smoke the salmon on their own!), butter and regular bread. My overall experience at BV was positive but came to an abrupt end when we wanted to order two glasses of rosé - the waitress just said "no, because we're closing, someone called the police" or something like that and that was the end of our visit. Oh, well. I will definitely be coming back during my next stay in Salon and can easily recommend it to others, especially if you're interested in local wines!
