Rosie Mae's Alpaca Farm is a simple visit making it a quick and efficient experience getting up…read moreclose with alpacas. It's located in Wildwood, Georgia, in the northwest corner of the state, or pretty much 10 miles southwest of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Rosie Mae's is actually free to visit where you can walk the grounds saying hello to 8 alpacas...5 boys and 3 girls. Guests can hand-feed the alpacas specially formulated pellets for just $2 per brown bag. Bags can be purchased inside the front entrance, which also serves as a coffee bar and miniature boutique. At first approaching the alpacas, they were content with just grazing on the farm's grass. I was pretty much invisible to them. It was only until I walked around the back of the farm and entered inside the barn area that I received a warm greeting. And that could have been because they sensed it was going to rain, lol. Nonetheless, my alpaca wishes were granted. I finally enticed them into trying the pellets which they gently vacuumed up from the palm of my hand. Having this newfound bonding time with the alpacas made all the difference in the encounter. Now I was walking away with a couple of heartfelt memories. Overall, you don't need very long when exploring around, maybe 45 minutes or so. This is just a quiet, little roadside attraction within the greater Chattanooga Valley area. But, if you have a love for animals and want the chance to enjoy hand-feeding alpacas, then make sure to keep in mind, Rosie Mae's Alpaca Farm.

I was getting cold feet about the hour drive the night before and exchanged a few messages with the owner. He might be one of the kindest people I've met. Just so genuine and reassuring. Felt like I was talking to family. There is a dirt road up to the farm and spots to park near a little hut you use to grab your buckets and pay afterwards. They have no trouble showing you where to go and helping you in any way. The blueberries were so reasonably priced and they were delicious. U-pick fruit is such a great activity for toddlers and my kids really seem to enjoy it. It wasn't too long of a walk down to the blueberries, but probably would have been a tiny bit tricky with a stroller. As much as I want to gate keep those scones - I'll divulge. Get them. If you do anything right in this next blueberry season it's the scones. Blueberry and lemon and literal perfection. It wasn't my postpartum hormones talking either. It was the best scone I'd ever had in my life. I didn't even think I liked scones and now I dream of them. This specific blueberry piece of heaven. I'm sorry there were no hand pies or jam the day we visited because I'm sure they would have been just as good. Please support this family owned gem. Pick the berries, eat the pastries, just give them your money. They deserve it.

We were allowed to get a refill of their feed and the owners enjoy watching their fluffy friends getting spoiled. We didn't feel rushed. We also saw piglets, kittens, horses, and a donkey. Location is about 1 hr from Atlanta, pretty easy to get to just a straight shot up I-75. The turn on google maps is a little off on the final stretch but they have a sign so we didn't have any problems finding it. You drive up this really long gravel road that circles their property and park by the big red barn they have. That's where they stable the alpacas and horses they have. They have two short haired pointers outside that are very friendly and will probably greet you. They also have great danes that they breed that are very friendly but those are in a fenced area so no need to be nervous. The farm owner/tour guide wasn't around when we got there so we called the number from google and she came over. We rode in her gator which is like a mix between an ATV and a tractor. Circled around the whole 60 acres of estate and she pointed out all her family's houses that they've built and where they pasture all their animals. Sadly they sold their goats but they have a really cute miniature donkey that we petted. Once you get back from the tour you can pet and feed the alpacas. Basically you get to give them their daily meal of feed so they will swarm you and you can pet them while they eat their feed. There's about 13 alpacas but they are all very friendly and do not bite! So no need to worry. Their horses also come over, they have nine very beautiful horses one of which is a cute pony. They also will eat the pellets so you can pet those as well. They have a little store with products made from their alpaca's fur so you can get that stuff. We watched them herd their alpacas from their stables to pasture, which was pretty difficult haha, and then we left. Overall great experience! Definitely wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting dirty. You'll probably walk away with a little alpaca poop on your shoes. Also the alpacas don't exactly spit but sometimes they sneeze and they can definitely sneeze on you. They look super cute with their bobblehead haircuts and I would definitely recommend coming for a visit!

Wine tasting allowed me to pick a wine I liked, so I ordered a glass to enjoy outside and the outdoor space reminded me of wine country on the Central Coast of California. We also ordered wine with crackers and cheese, but I was disappointed with the presentation. The scenery and atmosphere were enjoyable, but the food presentation and service could definitely be improved.
