I think he has a great desire to help you in anyway that he can. He gave me reffals to other specialist that I needed, and I have been to the neurologist today at his request, and normally I would be waiting for months, they got me right in. So I didn't want to take any chances with it properly healing although I went to the emergency room and had x-rays done and scheduled a follow-up with a podiatrist to make sure everything is healing properly and get some advice on how to best make sure I recover well. Dr. Holtz was easy to see and I was able to quickly make an appointment for just a few days out. Easy to find in a strip-mall area by YNot Pizza off Kempsville with plenty of parking out front. I arrived as the first appointment of the day and there was no one else inside, so I was quickly checked in as a Sentara patient (since all my stuff is in the system) and only waited a few minutes to see the doctor. I really liked Dr. Holtz. He's very personable and friendly. He spent a lot of time with me answering all my questions and explaining what I had done to my foot and how it was healing. He gave me some good advice and went over my x-rays with me and reassured me that my healing was coming along nicely. We scheduled a follow-up appointment for a month for now but he told me to cancel it if I was fine because I didn't need to come in if I was doing OK. I'll be sure to keep this office on my rolodex if I need to come in for other foot issues and since I'm now running a lot I suspect some might crop up.

I was extremely blessed to be referred to Dr. Bava many years ago and was his patient for over 12…read moreyears before I moved to a Pennsylvania retirement community in 1917 to be near one of my sons. He is the most caring and knowledgeable foot and ankle doctor I've ever seen. I am a diabetic and needed special shoes which he wrote prescriptions for. My right foot has several deformed toes (hammer toes) which he was able to keep a check on and keep from getting wounds that would require amputation. One time that I had ankle and leg pain (I thought was a stress fracture) he was able to diagnose that I had a blood clot (which my PCP did not diagnose) and immediately sent me for a test which resulted in me going to the hospital for treatments. He would urge me if I got a blister etc. to call him right away and he would work me in to see him before it got worse. I also was prone to stress fractures and thought I had one when we were out of town visiting grandchildren one time. My son took me to the emergency room and I called Dr. Bava, explained my symptoms and what I had been doing. He recommended they put a boot on me even if they didn't see a fracture, because sometimes stress fractures don't show up on the first xray. He was right. It was like he knew me and my feet so well he could determine what my problem might be even from a distance during a phone call. I miss him and his caring and expertise so much. I am on my 5th foot doctor here in PA. My first one here was about to retire and basically only cut toenails. The second one did not really help me with preventing wounds on my toes and prescriptions for shoes were not always written properly. It was often difficult to get an appointment with her. She ended up amputating 2 toes which Dr. Bava could have probably saved. The next one said I needed a a wound specialist. The wound specialist moved to another state after I saw him twice but he introduced me to another doctor in the same practice. So far he is working out just fine, he is less experienced than Dr. Bava but he listens when I have foot problems tries my suggestions from what I remember Dr. Bava did. Yet, he is in no way of the same caliber as Dr. Bava. I miss him so much and email him often. He wasn't just a caring doctor, he was like family! His staff was always pleasant, efficient, as well as caring also. You will not be sorry if you trust him with your foot and ankle care, but you may be sorry if you choose someone else!

I went to William Simon July 28th to be seen for severe, unwalkable pain in the left foot. I told…read moreWilliam Simon Id been to nerve doctors, vascular doctors, and even had an ultrasound on the left foot. Although the nerve tech said no nerve damage, the ultrasound tech found a bulge and "cyst" on ultrasound and found valves not opening/closing properly. Vascular doctor told me to go back to the podiatrist. That is why I found William Simon again. He is the one that told me 5 years ago that the hardware the podiatrist used to put in my foot after my left foot bunionectomy was too large and needed to come out. He proved this with an X-ray he took. He also stated he would have to charge me if he did took the hardware out. So I went back to Dr Lisa Grant who took out the hardware and who performed the bunionectomy to begin with. Fast forward, present day, July 28th, I saw William Simon briefly and had a pleasant conversation,but he did say he did not know why I'd be in pain. I asked if there was a way to be sure, and he agreed to order an MRI of my left foot. The front desk told me someone from central scheduling with Sentara should reach out in a couple days and no one did. I called multiple times following up with the front desk. I patched the scheduling department with Sentara in with this doctors office and the scheduling department advised to mark the order STAT. This doctors office and William Simon never did. After more attempts at calling, the scheduling department with Sentara said they have the order but it listed the wrong "body part." They could not give me an appointment unless William Simons' office fixed it. Another two weeks go by before they fixed it. In total, I spent over 6 weeks waiting to have an MRI scheduled. The day of the MRI, the nurse still said it was the wrong order, and they were only going to order the part of the foot it listed on the MRI. I told them I had to call the doctors office again to have it fixed. I was on the phone with William Simons office when the nurse walked back in and said they found an updated order. Meanwhile, Im on the phone with William Simons front desk manager after initially being hung up on. I expressed how upset and disappointing the whole process had been. I had to have the MRI rescheduled again and finally had it done September 11. July 28th was when I was originally seen by this guy. And September 11 is when I finally got my MRI. The results came back within a day. I have high grade tears and severe swelling and ligament tears/issues requiring surgery and I have no doctor to read the report or even explain it to me because the day before the MRI, I received a certified letter that came to my home saying the "patient doctor relationship" had deteriorated and that I need to find care somewhere else. Meanwhile, I am suffering thru a high grade tear of my ligaments and still trying to walk and balance on the foot. No words were ever exchanged negatively between this doctor and myself. I asked the front desk almost every time I called if this doctor would call me, so I could tell him what was going on. They said they would relay the message. This doctor stopped my care at a critical period in my care, requiring surgery. I've called numerous other podiatrists and ortho surgeons in the area, some even 120 miles away...all have appointments towards the end of the year to even be seen for consult. Sentara Healthcare Ortho scheduler in VirginiaBeach refused to schedule me an appointment, saying they first had to clear it with their doctors since I was already seen by William Simon. I am filing a grievance for patient abandonment and patient neglect. The MRI order should not have taken 2 months to get itself into scheduling hands. The back and forth, being hung up on, never having the doctor return my complaints, and zero consideration for my pain and problem, only to be told William Simon refuses to further treat by certified letter is why I would like to file a grievance. I did file one with my insurance company, who says William Simon still has not submitted the claim. Below is what my MRI says: Impression 1. No focal abnormality seen immediately subjacent to the marker indicating site of clinical concern. 2. Evidence of high-grade partial tear of the ATFL and grade 1 versus grade 2 sprain of the CFL which appear somewhat edematous with mild overlying subcutaneous edema suggesting a subacute injury. No significant joint effusion. 3. Minimal tenosynovial fluid along the distal aspect of the posterior tibialis tendon, nonspecific. 4. Mild nonspecific medial soft tissue edema about the ankle. ANKLE LIGAMENTS: Anterior and posterior inferior tibiofibular ligaments and syndesmosis: Intact Anterior and posterior talofibular and the calcaneofibular ligaments: There is edema along the expected course of the ATFL which is poorly defined and attenuated with only a few residual inferior fibers compatible with a high-grade partial tear.
