I would honestly give 0 stars. They are extremely unprofessional. For starters, I reached out to Athena Protection and they picked up my call instead without announcing themselves. I paid them... no email receipt or confirmation so I called about 3 hours after checking spam folder and they were extremely rude. I bought it today, I would cancel today if customer service was open but I'll be up at 8am Monday or else cancelling my card. Every time I called Athena back there was no trace of my calls to set up said account when Andrew said he was able to find my case number. This is a scam company. They search the internet database for information about car repairs that is input by dealerships, then send out fake emails and letters with the dealership and managers name and title, presenting information about your vehicle and offering warranty service. The number listed is not for the dealership, but for Protect Direct. If you get one of these emails or letters, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and contact your dealership with the information. read more

A load of crap and a sham. Received a letter from them about my car, and just like the others who have written reviews, they indicated my car's warranty is about to expire. They did have some info about my car's purchase date being a while back, but the content of their shady letter suggests a scam waiting to happen. This idiotic letter (and company) offers no real substance in their correspondence, only catch phrases. I got the same letter mentioned by the other reviewers and it pretty much went along the lines they described. All this "Program Headquarters (SPD)" company knows is the year, make and series of the vehicle you recently purchased. If this was legitimate they would definitely not require you to provide your VIN and mileage. Lexus and BMW offer their own extended manufacturing warranties. So I really don't get something here... Why is everyone so down on these guys? Most of what I've read here is about their mailing policy. You know how to get rid of junk mail? It's called the circular file, people. I actually got one of these letters about my Jeep and thought, why not call them and get a quote. It's a few minutes of time. I spoke with a rep named Heather and surprisingly, she was really funny! Kept joking around with me and stuff - I'm sure her way of making the sale. And you what? It worked. After I asked a bunch of questions, I bought a plan. I'm glad too, cause I don't have several thousand dollars sitting in my bank account to pay for a major issue should one come up. I think people complain about them not covering problems that really aren't covered or maybe were pre-existing when they bought the plan. It's like health insurance - sure, I'd love for my last ER trip to be completely covered, but I have to pay part of it. And I have to use the docs they tell me to. I don't go writing a bunch of bad things about United HealthCare because they won't pay for something I think should be covered and isn't. Same thing here. Once they mail me the final policy I intend to read it over completely, and call back to ask questions if I'm not sure about something. That's part of being an informed consumer. I did the same thing when buying a warranty on my TV. Since I haven't made a claim with them yet, I don't know how that process will go. But I asked and she said they are backed by Marathon Financial administrative company, and I know those guys are legit - they're the ones who decide what is covered and what is not, so I should be in the clear if anything breaks (hope it doesn't though.) read more

I've been fairly happy with my coverage from Protection Direct (Program Headquarters SPD). The salesman who helped me was very polite and I didn't feel pressured into buying. I think my monthly bill is pretty reasonable for my '06 Camry. I did have a claim that was denied (I was NOT pleased about this) but I called and spoke to a representative who talked me through the policy and explained why. Overall, I certainly don't think they're a scam, but I guess I can see how the constant junk mail would be annoying if you're not in the market for a car warranty. read more

Horribly misleading solicitation letter designed to get you hyped-up enough to call their "headquarters" so they can try to sell you on their services/product. Once you call, before they'll even address any of your questions, they'll request more information on your vehicle. Because I wasn't sure on what they were about or what they were offering, I continued to sidestep their information requests by asking them repeatedly, "so what exactly are you offering...". It was like ping pong. I finally discontinued the call and chalked the company up as another sheisty MLM scheme attempting to make a quick buck on the ignorance of callers/customers. I've heard both good and bad reviews of extended warranty companies but a friend of mine recommended Protection Direct. I called and spoke to a very friendly sales representative and ended up purchasing basic coverage for my '05 Toyota Corolla with a pretty manageable monthly payment. I had to file a claim recently and was very happy with the way PD handled the issue. No muss, no fuss. My mechanic handled the repairs and overall I saved about $700. Highly recommended! read more

I write this review as a public service announcement to any one who cares about protecting their credit score and identity. I've received numerous mailings from this company informing me that my vehicle warranty is about to expire ... Please don't fall for it. It's a scam ... They're trying to gather personal data about you, (beyond your mailing address) to do some serious damage to your credit. On the bottom portion of their cover letter, there's a phone number to call so you can opt out of any additional correspondence from this company, mail, phone calls, etc. Don't call ... Because at one point in the message they're going to ask for your social security number, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU PROVIDE THAT DATA TO ANYONE!!! I called their main number (877-241-1198) and was informed that the phone number is the Federal Attorney Generals phone number ... B.S. The federal government already has your SSN, to be sure! So please, be careful, and if you received anything from this company, I'd recommend contacting you state attorney generals division of consumer protection and turn these people in before they do any more damage ... No doubt about it this company is trying to get information off of you in order to do some serious damage to your identity. I was sent a letter in regards to my factory warranty expiring and that I could qualify for additional coverage by contacting them. They even had the number of months I've had my vehicle. What they didn't depend on was that I had just recently brought my vehicle in for repairs and had spoken to my dealer regarding when my warranty was to expire. I contacted this company, gave him my "customer ID#" and then proceeded to ask him multiple questions. "What kind of car do I have?", "How do you know my warranty is about to expire?" "How did you get my information?". The gentleman couldn't answer me. He asked me for the year of my car and when I asked him to tell me what kind of car I had he simply told me "I don't have that information". This company is A BIG SHAM!! I have received a second letter (threw out the first one). I was sure it was scam-city when I first read it. I had no intention of contacting them but was curious to see if it was a reported scam. Got my letter today after registering my vehicle a month ago. If the statement about gleaning from DMV records is true, isn't this a violation of data protection laws? I called to inquire on the pricing and the the manager ended up coming on! they are so desperate for a sale that they forgot how to provide customer service! Many extended warranty companies take on extended warranties for a year or 2 during which few cars will actually need them. Once claims start to accumulate the company evaporates but you've already paid your premium. My guess is the previous 2 posts you see here saying how great the company is were made by people or persons in employed by that company. read more

My name is Larry D. and I own a 05 Volvo and I received the noticed from the PROTECTION DIRECT and was impressed. I could be offer a warranty for a vehicle over 100.000 miles for 5 years or 100.000 miles. This would include major parts ie engine, a/c, transmission replacement and the list goes on. Not to mention 100.00 you pay each service visit. Sound too good to be true. Well i have brought off on their claim and it has been almost a week and I have been doing my homework. 1. I called my Dealership to ask them about the company. Never heard of them..2. Check their rating on BBB and it is a F PLUS RATING. 3. I mention the great deal I received to friends. Their response. It's a SCAM get your money back. Enough for me to call on Monday and the word isCANCEL and full refund and contact my Bank to cancel any and all charges from them. Called to get information about it. It sounded really good and I was interested and when she said the price of it I said I can't afford that. Then the lady got bitchy with me and started getting onto me about it and asking me why I called and all. Like if I knew what it would cost I wouldn't have called you in the first place. I asked her if I could get onto a policy in mid to late November when I COULD ACTUALLY Make a down payment and start making payments on it. I told her that I was in between jobs that I wanted the protection but I could not afford it at this time. She told me it had to be October and if I don't get the protection by October 31st then I lose any protection on my used truck. So I finally agree and she sent me to the Financial manager and he had me put down 150. Well after a couple of weeks and I did my budgeting I found that I needed that 150 back as I start my new job mostly for gas. So on October 30th I called again and canceled my subscription and the guy I was talking to got onto me and kept trying to talk me into it and I told him over and over again I don't want it. I cant afford it right now and I need my down payment back. after spending 10 minutes on the phone with him bitching about me cancelling he finally agree to it. I worked in Customer Service for over 4 years you don't treat your customers like they did to me. If someone doesn't want something don't talk them into keeping it just give them what they want. I did this after contacting CONSUMERS AFFAIRS to inquire about the company named,"CONSUMER DIRECT WARRANTY SERVICES" I was told they were a good company to purchase an extented warranty for my car. So, I did to the amount of $2,000.00 on July 7, 2008 and is to expire on July 7, 2015. When I needed to use it the compant wasn't there. Well,today I decided to call the phone numbers listed in my warranty. One number said "THIS NUMBER IS HAVING PHONE TROUBLE, TRY YOUE CALL AGAIN LATER" I did and received the same recording. Then, I called another number, and all I heard was,"DO NOT RECORD", RECORD WHAT, I asked myself. Then I contacted the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. I was told i had been SCAMMED.
