A couple of years ago I came home from work to find a massive swarm of several thousand bees had…read moretaken up residence on my front door! I had no idea what to do or who to call! I tried calling Yarra Council, they suggested calling the zoo or Museums Victoria, who in turn said to call the council again. Eventually, someone at City of Yarra put me onto the Bee Wrangler, who had just done some work for them removing a bee infestation on some council building. So this guy John pops around very soon afterwards - he's based in Fitzroy I believe - to have a look. He reckoned that the bees had been trying to migrate from some large chimney stacks nearby but had been blocked by a row of houses on Nicholson Street, and had returned to the middle of the street (i.e. my front door) to build a hive! Anyway, John the Bee Wrangler came round over two nights (in the middle of the night, when the bees were more docile I guess) and removed them. He was so quiet I only just heard him outside because I happened to still be awake. Really friendly, quick and efficient service, I can highly recommend him. He charged about a pretty reasonable $110 for the job from memory, but I just forwarded it to the real estate agent/landlord and was reimbursed. In the unlikely (and frankly terrifying) event that thousands of bees decide to set up camp at your house, I hope this gives you an option for their removal.

I recently received a complaint via a council letter from my neighbour, about a wasp nest on my…read moreproperty, and that I had to get rid of it. Given that the "nest" had been there for at least five years, and that it was a bee hive, and not wasps, I was less than impressed with the cowardly way my neighbours had dealt with the matter, instead of just knocking on my door. Regardless, I was less than thrilled to have to pay for the removal of the hive, given that it had not been any problem for me in the years it had existed. I engaged WR Gay to deal with it, and their service was exemplary. Not only did they come out once, they repeated the treatment three weeks later as the hive was still active due to it's size and location. They also were kind enough to come out a third time one month later, at no charge, as there were still bees buzzing around. It is now a week after the third and final treatment, and the bees are finally gone. I will be heartily recommending WR Gay to anyone in my position. Phenomenal customer service.
