At my appointment I checked in 30 min early to do the new patient paperwork, and was not seen for over an hour past my scheduled time. When I asked if they were nearly ready for me, the receptionist couldn't find my name and said they had "forgotten about me". Not paraphrasing, actual quote. Ultimately I went back and had some X-rays taken. Staff was nice enough, and the dentist herself apologized for them having forgotten about me. I was waiting for my cleaning but was told "oh, you need to book a separate appointment for that". Why on earth am I going to the dentist and not getting a cleaning?? When I went to schedule this, the next available was 3 months later... insane. The cleaning appointment is coming up but I now have a conflict. When I called to reschedule I was told the next available was now 4 more months away. I can't imagine how this place is so full that they are booking months in advance... perhaps the staff simply forgot to look for an earlier appointment.

I have a…read morefeeling that I may have gotten lost in the shuffle or something, because after I had my vitals taken and was sent back to the waiting room around 5:30ish, I watched a boat load of people who came after me come and go no problem. The reception is downstairs, so once you get to the second floor waiting room, there really is not a desk to ask any questions about your status. I was getting more and more frustrated, and I finally mentioned that I had been there so long when a janitor said that he may have to evacuate the building because someone left a duffel bag unattended. (It was admittedly a slightly embarrassing, hangry, very non-Jenny type "I swear to god, if I have been waiting here for this long and I have to leave...!!" complaint). A nurse was walking through the waiting room and heard my plea and immediately went to figure out what went wrong with the appointment timing. The staff were VERY nice and apologetic, which is why I bumped up my potential 1 star review to an A-Ok. It still took a bit to see the doctor, but at least I knew what was going on and the people I dealt with made me feel like they cared. Dr. Mohammed was also apologetic for the wait, and assured me he would wait for me to get blood work and not leave before my exam was complete (they close at 8). I like that you can get vaccines, blood work etc all in the same place and not have to be sent to a different location for labs, as has been the case with smaller doctors offices I have been to in Brooklyn. All in all, this location is pretty clean and efficient for a community health center. They have a TV in the waiting room with actually helpful community info (like farm shares!) and recipes and the referral and appointment system seems organized and modern. I'm curious on the wait when I come back, but I will give them another try.

My 88-year-old mother recently spent five days as a patient on the 5th floor of Maimonides Medical…read moreCenter, and the experience we endured was unacceptable. I felt we were in the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest because I was right there with her every single night, I witnessed everything firsthand. No one looks out for a parent the way their family does, and the fact that these incidents occurred with me present speaks volumes. Lack of Basic Patient Safety: The nurses on this floor operated without common sense or proper safety protocols. They expected an 88-year-old woman with severe balance issues to get up and walk around unsupported, completely disregarding basic safety and patient dignity. Inappropriate Treatment During Procedures: While I briefly stepped away, my mother was treated poorly during a blood draw, experiencing repeated punctures and ignored pain. Fortunately, a visitor in the room intervened and instructed staff to stop. The staff's reaction was unprofessional. When I returned, it was clear that this type of treatment would not be tolerated. Inefficient Discharge and Insurance Procedures: Upon discharge, a nurse named Madina attempted to delay her release for another 24 hours due to uncompleted discharge paperwork. The priority seemed focused on administrative delays rather than patient health, and proper action was only taken after I threatened to contact Patient Relations. Lack of Standard Discharge Protocols: In comparison to other major hospitals where discharge includes a proper handoff, safe removal of IVs, and a wheelchair for a dignified exit, our experience here lacked basic class and training. I had to physically demand a wheelchair to ensure she could leave safely. Poor Facility Conditions: The physical condition of the floor matches the poor standards of the staff. There was visible filth, garbage overflowing from bags into the open, and neglected bathrooms that appeared not to have been cleaned properly in a long time. Bright Spots: Despite these severe issues, I want to highlight a few individuals who stood out: Nurse Justin showed genuine compassion and is a credit to the field. Arena, Sonia, and Nelly were also decent. However, other staff members were unprofessional, and I intend to follow up with Patient Relations regarding their names. Conclusion: Maimonides management currently lacks adequate control and standards on this floor. To resolve poor communication and coordination, leadership must hold mandatory team meetings to set clear expectations, define roles, and establish daily check-ins. I do not want any other family to go through this experience. Until leadership cleans up this floor and holds staff accountable, I would advise others to keep their family members away from the 10th Avenue 5th-floor facility.

I just had my first ever appointment in the Allergy clinic with Dr Mary Lee Wong for treatment of…read moremy allergies and asthma, including a consultation and allergy panel test. I wanted to write this review about her and the staff because it was one of the most amazing first-time medical appointments I've ever experienced as a chronically ill person. I have never been to this facility before and I always get severe anxiety before new appointments with new doctors. The reason for that is because I'm a very sickly person with many severe environmental, chemical and food allergies plus asthma. I also have chronic pain, multiple injuries and other recurring symptoms that I'm trying to pinpoint and get a diagnosis for a possible auto-immune disease. It can be very stressful for me to experience explaining my medical history to a new doctor because usually they don't listen or speak to me in a condescending way, which in turns makes me very exhausted and frustrated re-explaining the same thing over and over only to be met with vague blanket advice because they just want to rush me out of there. And the majority of new appointments I end up leaving in tears with no concrete help or treatment plan. I'm a very detail oriented person, I keep a 2 inch thick binder of all my medical records, tests, vaccines, medications, etc dating back 10 years and organized by specialty. I understand that it can be jarring for some doctors when I present this to them because they are not used to someone being so organized, prepared and detailed so sometimes they tend to brush it off because they don't want to deal with it, don't care, overwhelmed or just assume I'm a hypochondriac or drug-seeker. I find this very frustrating when medical professionals just don't listen to me or trust that I know and understand my body and my symptoms. I also feel like I have to dress business casual as if I'm going to a job interview because I also find that doctors don't take me seriously due to being heavily tattooed and assumptions about my pain tolerance. So I tend to cover them up and wear collared shirts and trousers to appear "professional" even though I'd much rather wear sweatpants! Even before I went to my appointment, the person I spoke to on the phone beforehand named Anissa was very kind and helpful. As I arrived for my appointment, the front desk staff was very nice and surprised that I already came prepared with my filled out forms (thanks to Anissa making sure I received them via email prior to my appointment). I didn't wait long before I was called back and I don't remember the assistant's name but she did keep a Hello Kitty badge on her scrubs. She performed my environmental panel test and explained each step thoroughly. I got my results within 20 minutes. They also referred me to a separate location to go same-day in order to get my bloodwork done for the food allergy test. Now I'd like to explain my amazing experience with Dr Mary Wong. Right off the bat she was so warm and welcoming and I felt safe immediately. Not only did she listen to everything I said, but she also embraced my attention to detail / my medical binder and asked to see all the relevant paperwork to make photocopies. She also took the most extensive notes of my appointment I've ever seen. She even asked me to review them to make sure nothing was missed! In the end she had 12 pages of notes regarding my medical history, a summary of my appointment and she even asked for every single one of my doctor's names and contact information so she can reach out to them later in order to get a full scope of my symptoms and experiences once we get my results. I mean wow I wish all my appointments with new doctors were like this. She showed me so much care, patience and empathy so that I wouldn't feel stressed in any way. I was very grateful for this experience considering most of my experiences with doctors are stressful with either no real answers or it just plain ruins my day! So I highly highly highly recommend seeing her for your allergies or asthma if you're a chronically ill spoonie girlie like me! She even had these cute rubber ducky earrings which I thought were so adorable, and she told me I should dress how I want next time and wear Hello Kitty if I wanted and I wouldn't be judged :) Please book your next appointment with her!!
