You set an appointment and Shalem does a thorough interview. Very consultative asking our daughter's likes, hobbies, and then walks through clothing preferences and goes through various ideas you have for sites and gets a feel for what you want want to express to others with your photos. Our daughter spent a lot of time studying in coffee shops so that was where we decided one shoot would be. Another shoot was in a marshy area, surrounded by nature, weather was a factor as it can be in September and October, so we did part of the session the next day when weather improved and we chose modern and natural settings. Be prepared with 5 or so outfits, and water boots. You're going to trek to a location in woods or streams if that's what you want. So be prepared! He encourages friends or family to join you to bring clothes, snacks and items you may use as a prop. She had her older sister and boyfriend with her. Now we wait a week or so till pictures are sorted and the best are pulled and we'll meet for final review and purchase. They sell their pictures A-La-Carte. So you have options of sizes, etc. and you can buy the copyrights too. Shalem has been here for around 8 years and was very word of mouth. Not anymore you're now in the Yelpasphere! Welcome! My husband and I live in Seattle, but are from Anchorage, so most of our arrangements were made over email- but when I found out I'd be in Anchorage for only two days a couple months before the wedding Loren bent over backwards to make a meeting with me. This meeting was totally unnecessary as everything was already arranged, but it made me feel extremely comfortable that I would not only get to discuss all my plans with Loren beforehand, but that we could just talk and become more friendly before the big day! My wedding was very relaxed, only about 80 guests (all family) and in my parents backyard. I told him that while we needed some family photos (staged) my family and I just wanted some in the moment shots, capturing the day. We also had some last minute changes the day of (my sisters and I decided it would be more fun if we all did each others' makeup and the girls too) and he just rolled with it! He blended in but was so friendly, it was like having another member of the family just hanging out and documenting everything! Everyone, EVERYONE, complimented me on finding Loren- he was so fun and nice and seriously like a photo nina- everywhere and nowhere at the same time! Never in the way, but somehow taking super intimate photos. He even rolled with it when my husband and I wanted to do some silly stuff at the botanical garden with no judgements- which was nice, a lot of photographers I deal with through my job can get very judgey if you aren't doing exactly what they want. He let us just be ourselves!!! He photographed us first at my parents house getting ready, then followed for the ceremony at the Alaska Botanical Garden, then followed to the reception at our home. I didn't have to worry at all or ever ask where he was when we wanted something photographed- he was already there! Lastly, he took AMAZING photos. Moments I didn't notice myself (my infant nephew getting his tie put on by my brother, my niece playing the piano, my grandmother helping her great-granddaughter sign the jenga guest book) I now have forever. They're beautiful, and represent my family and the wedding my husband and I wanted so perfectly- fun, loving, colorful, and full of life! He even went so far as to drop off the wedding albums at my parents house when they were complete a couple weeks later, and sent me a link to all of them online so I could forward to family members to make copies. It was wonderful! I absolutely recommend AK Wedding Photographers for any wedding!
