GRANE is reborn as PROOF. The dispensers are gone, more seating has been added, and the whisk(e)y selection has expanded. Instead of focusing on high end, expensive drinks, the majority of the options are in the five to twenty dollar range. Aside from many whisk(e)ys, they have cocktails, gin, rum, tequilas, cordials, beer, etc, so you can bring your friends even if you're the only whisk(e)y connoisseur in the group. The menu has everything listed as 2oz pours, but they do have 1oz pours! Don't be afraid to try a number of things. No snacks at this point, but rumor has it something simple is in planning. A knowledgeable and friendly wait staff with plenty of liquor options. Love the bottles for sale along the wall and the diversity of seating options (from high tops to booths to bar). Tried the Manhattan this evening and wasn't overly impressed. There seemed to lack complexity, but what was lacking in that arena was quickly forgotten by the buzz due to the strength. They pour them strong, which is not surprising considering Proof is a whiskey bar. In the past I have thoroughly enjoyed the Proof Penicillin cocktail. Alright, this is the whiskey bar of whiskey bars. Jacque was the most incredible bartender I've ever had. According to her, the bar's whiskey selection is currently running a little low, but I still had the opportunity to try two flights of five bourbons each that I had never tried before. And then she proceeds to recommend the most incredible single malt I've ever had in my life. Overall, I'd rate this even higher than 5 stars if I could, and it's all thanks to Jacque the bartender. My husband and I snuck away for a date night last night and came to Proof for a before-dinner drink at The Grey Plume across Turner Park. We sat in the table/lounge area tucked just off the bar and spent a good 10 minutes talking about how we'd write a Yelp review. here's what we came up with... pros: - great whiskey drinks. I ordered the Classic Manhattan and my husband had the Sazerac... both were fantastic. Super smooth and perfectly made. - while we both drank whiskey, they had other delicious looking drinks made with vodka and gin. - the wait staff was really knowledgeable about the drinks and types of whiskey sold. - $10/drink - we didn't try the food, but were super interested in some of the items including philly sliders, pumpkin dip and cheesecake (will definitely be back to try those!) - we liked the concept they were striving for (I.e. prohibition-style environment) but... Cons: - the atmosphere felt almost chain-like. (It may have been the rack of whiskey and drinks you could purchase to bring home. It gave off the feeling of a convenience store.) - the lights were pretty bright for the overall ambiance. It was freezing cold when we went, but the outdoor patio looked great... it'd be a fun spot to get a drink at during the summer. Overall, a great place... During Proofs Thanksgiving Eve event, they served $5 old fashions and wine glasses which we enjoyed. For those who are wary of whiskey, try the Violeta! It's a beautiful greenish blue cocktail with a vodka (Tito's) base coupled with sweet liqueur, lemon, and honey. A bunch of my classmates and I came here after taking a couple of tests one afternoon. We had a large group of about 12-15. Luckily there is a big booth next to the bar, so most of us squished in together and someone brought over a chair. The drinks were fantastic. The carda-rum and the mamie Taylor tie for my new favorite drink. While the bar boasts being whiskey-centered, they make plenty of delicious cocktails that contain other alcohols. Most of the room is set up for smaller groups though so don't expect to come here with more than about 6 and get a table for sure. read more

Now that Proof has been open for a couple of months and I've had a chance to visit multiple times, I figure that it's time for a review. So, here we go. Some of this will compare to the old Grane establishment, just by nature of my memory. Gone are the shelves of whisky for retail sale, as well as the dispensers. Instead, Proof has added more seating space, as well as scaling back the prices. Both are wins in my book. No more gimmicks (half price Mondays, dispenser value cards, etc.) but instead, good service, great cocktails, special events, and atmosphere galore. Thank goodness the bar area was kept intact; the wall of whisky is a wonderful thing to behold. Oh, the bar food menu is gone too. No great loss, as it was just a half page long and was probably more of a distraction for the business than anything else. Patrons can order in food from multiple establishments, and there are plenty within walking distance. So, in short, thanks for getting rid of the little things that were proving a distraction to the attraction. read more

I do not think this place is set up for large dogs as the tables are really tight and if it was a busy night I would be pumping and other people but I came when it's not very busy and with having large dogs that would be the best time if you have big dogs too. read more

Was in Omaha for a couple days, and am a lover for whisky bars so this was the spot to try out. I came on a Monday early in the afternoon, therefore it was empty, which ended up being very nice. I was able to talk with the bartender to learn more about the place and its cocktail menu. I was also able to check out and try a couple pretty good gin and whisky. For cocktails, I went with the applewood cocktail first. It was a nice, light, sweet and refreshing first cocktail to start my evening. The apple slice, cinnamon and nutmeg added a nice seasonal taste to the cocktail. A solid cocktail. Next, I had the proof penicillin. I ordered this because I love scotch, and it contained some good old granddad bourbon and laphroaig 10 yr. The addition of lemon and ginger gave it a nice citrus and bite as well. Overall, I was glad to have stopped by for a couple cocktails on my way out of Omaha. Very nice and spacious place, accommodating bartenders, and deliciously hand-crafted cocktails. A pretty good selection of whisky as well (as seen in the photos). Will be back again in the future. read more

Very nice selection of whisky and bourbon but they are not cheap. Cocktails are creative and I tried Applewood, very unique and tasty it was $12. Atmosphere was neat. They have some retail whiskies that you can buy to take home, which prices are not bad at all. Same or lower than grocery store. My wife and I went to Omaha to get away for the weekend. We stayed at the element and were looking for a place to end our night. We found proof and realized we could walk there in under two minutes. Walked in and enjoyed the theming of the place. Trying to go more 1920s with a modern twist. All of the drinks were good and they're priced for 2ozs so it is more pricey but you get your money's worth if you're looking to party.
