We were greeted by a friendly receptionist who gave us our room key and showed us to our room. It was a nicely appointed 2-level room with plenty of space for all of my and my husband's clothing and luggage. We appreciated how light and bright it was, with a skylight on the 2nd level over the large, comfortable bed. We also liked that there were two types of pillows on the bed: typical Euro-style down pillows, and also firmer, foam filled ones. That was nice, because we're not fond of the down pillows that disappear when you rest your head on them. There was also free Wi-Fi in the room which was easy to access. The only negative points about the room were that it was 2 levels (which makes those middle of the night bathroom trips challenging) and that it was not soundproofed enough. You could easily hear noises from neighboring rooms, from outside on the walkways and also from the street which runs alongside the hotel. We ate dinner at the restaurant Waldgaststätte Cleric - Forellenhof, which belongs to the hotel, and is only a 15 minute walk or a short drive by car away. The food, drinks and service were all excellent. After dinner, we enjoyed an evening relaxing in the spa, back and forth between the barn bar and the (coed) Swedish sauna. Everything was so clean and attractive. They offer a wide variety of drinks in the bar, and the service was great. The breakfast was outstanding. Upon entering the breakfast room, we noticed how light, bright and inviting it was. The breakfast, which was included with our room, was huge, and had so much variety - fresh fruit, fresh rolls, a selection of meats and cheeses, tomatoes with mozzarella, yogurt, and a variety of jams, jellies and other spreads. We also had juice, coffee and sparkling water. This was one of the best breakfasts we've had at a small European hotel. While we didn't get to take advantage of all of the hotel's amenities, we did thoroughly enjoy ourselves. If you are going to be in Bilzingsleben or in the Thüringen area, we would highly recommend the Altes Pfarrhaus hotel.
