Every staff member genuinely cares about your well being, and it shows. I was very impressed with how "hands on" the Director, Rebecca Herzog is. Unless she is meeting with a client, her door is open. I had started at the Bridgewater location, and this was not the case there. The classes are geared toward the client needs, and we were asked periodically as a group if there was an area that we would like for them to cover...they listened and acted! The APN, Kim is also very caring and very knowledgable about medications. She takes the time to listen to you instead of just writing a script. It is TRULY a team effort there, and I felt safe and comfortable from day one! I highly recommend this location of GenPsych. Lisa T.

TL;DR: This program has excellent group therapy and several outstanding providers, but my…read moreexperience with individual therapy and the handling of consent and billing issues significantly detracted from my overall care. I am giving this program 3.5 stars, and I want to be clear that I would have given it 5 stars were it not for my experience with individual therapy. The group therapy component was excellent. The clinicians who facilitated the groups were knowledgeable, compassionate, and created a genuinely supportive environment. I found the group work to be meaningful and beneficial to my treatment, and I am grateful for that part of the program. I also want to specifically acknowledge Hunter and Juan, who facilitated group therapy. Both were thoughtful, compassionate, and skilled at creating a safe and respectful group space. Their groups were grounding and well-run, and they made a meaningful positive impact on my experience. I would also like to recognize Albert, who was a wonderful provider. He was attentive, compassionate, and supportive, and consistently made me feel heard and respected. My interactions with him reflected the level of professionalism and empathy patients hope for when entering treatment. Unfortunately, my experience with my assigned individual therapist, Emily Tully, significantly impacted my overall care. I entered this program during a period of significant emotional distress and was actively seeking care, support, and stabilization. In my experience, the individual therapy I received did not provide that. Throughout my sessions, I found her to be emotionally unavailable and dismissive, particularly during moments when I was vulnerable or struggling. I have participated in several treatment programs over the years, and this was the first time I experienced an individual therapeutic relationship that felt consistently cold and lacking in understanding or care. When I shared openly, I often felt met with a critical or judgmental tone rather than curiosity or support. The approach felt directive rather than collaborative, which made it difficult to engage meaningfully or feel safe expressing myself. I also want to note an experience that felt particularly discouraging. Emily was aware that I was pursuing additional treatment to supplement my care and that I would need to miss a day in the program for that reason. I was told I would be required to provide a written note for each absence, despite having already signed a release authorizing her to communicate directly with the other treatment provider. While I understand that documentation requirements may be part of program policy, the way this was communicated felt corrective rather than supportive or collaborative. This approach felt unnecessarily rigid and non-collaborative, and left me feeling unsupported in my efforts to responsibly manage my care. Additionally, I believe it is important for prospective patients to be aware of the program's laboratory practices. The program utilizes an out-of-network laboratory, with individual lab tests billed at approximately $1,500 each. I was not adequately informed of this in advance. When I expressed discomfort and clearly stated multiple times that I did not consent to assuming financial responsibility for these charges, I was repeatedly told by Emily that signing paperwork accepting financial responsibility was required. My concerns were not met with understanding or discussion, but rather with continued pressure to sign despite my objections. In a therapeutic setting, compassion, collaboration, transparency, and respect for patient consent are essential. While the group component of this program -- and providers like Hunter, Juan, and Albert -- were strong, my experience with individual therapy and the handling of billing and consent issues fell short of those standards and significantly impacted my overall experience.

Actually so strange and unprofessional…read more I came into the practice, clearly requesting serious mental health assistance (EMDR/DBT therapy) in addition to restarting mood stabilization and another anxiety medication that would work better for me than vistaril. Dr. Iqbal immediately brought up how she cannot prescribe benzodiazepines.. who said anything about benzos?? Weird . I am trying to treat CPTSD and have been consistently triggered in the past couple of weeks leading to a very deteriorated mental state. She was asking the questions off the sheet and I know I am not doing well so I told her I think you should select yes for all of them. For some reason this "professional" decided to get catty with me and say really?? You're not moving right now!! Yeah every time I try to stay present I move in some way, not when I'm disassociated (HOW TF DO YOU THINK IVE SURVIVED TRAUMA). I should've learned from how I felt unheard by this practice previously, they do not care and will likely treat you like you're lying and they know SO much better. I wonder why the U.S has such a mental health crisis with professionals like this. Very unfortunate too because literally every other person I interacted with in that office is so so kind , the receptionist was incredibly helpful in directing me to another facility too! But the psychologists will not take you or your concerns seriously. For your own mental wellbeing, go anywhere else. Patients deserve a mental health professional with a stronger emotional capacity than its patients.

Do not waste your time, money, or mental health on this horrible counseling center…read more The first thing to encounter is the receptionist, who is terrible at her job. Her voice is like nails on a chalk board, and she has no understanding of the meaning of privacy. Whether she is on the phone or talking to herself, I always end up hearing about the private personal information of other patients. I end up spending more time sitting in the reception area than actually seeing the psychiatrist. The doctor that I see is Kuris and he is without a doubt the worst psychiatrist I have ever had. He is an awkward older man that gives off a creepy vibe and is impossible to relate to. He has never once given me any helpful insight, or even really gotten to know me. I have been taking antidepressants for many years, and I am currently living a very stable, healthy, and happy life. In order to get him to refill prescriptions, however, I have to visit every three months and I am charged an exorbitant $280 per visit. In my opinion, he has done nothing to earn that money. Sitting in his office for less than five minutes, being asked inane questions, and giving up all that money only to get him to sign a piece of paper is ridiculous. Furthermore, I have found the counseling center to be extremely unreliable. There have been multiple instances where both my pharmacy and myself could not get a hold of him for weeks. Again, do not waste your time, money, or mental health on this horrible counseling center.

ONE OF THE WORST MEDICAL EXPERIENCES I'VE HAD…read more When you're dealing with someone's brain, mental health, and recovery, LISTENING should be the bare minimum. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. After a serious car accident left me with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-concussion syndrome, I've spent years fighting to regain my health. I came to this practice for another round of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), having previously completed seven weeks of treatment in Florida without complications. Timing mattered. TMS requires appointments five days a week for approximately five to seven weeks, and I needed to complete treatment before my insurance deductible reset. I want to recognize Denise, who was compassionate, helpful, and went out of her way to accommodate my situation. Based on our conversations, I genuinely thought I'd found the right practice. The nurse who took my vitals was also very kind. Unfortunately, everything changed when I arrived. The front desk initially couldn't find my appointment. Multiple sound machines made the office uncomfortable for someone with severe noise sensitivity. I also found the gloomy artwork in the physician's office unsettling for a psychiatric setting, although I recognize that artwork is subjective. My biggest concern, however, was the physician's apparent inability to LISTEN. My original TMS evaluation in Florida lasted approximately 15-20 minutes. This appointment lasted roughly 60-90 minutes. I understand that TMS requires careful screening and that a prior successful treatment does not eliminate potential risks. My objection was not to medical caution. It was to feeling that my answers and treatment history were repeatedly overlooked. I explained several times that I had completed seven weeks of TMS without adverse reactions, even when I was closer to my accident and my symptoms were more severe. Rather than first obtaining those records, he repeatedly raised concerns about my brain injury and suggested additional neurological and psychiatric evaluations. He also asked about psychiatric symptoms, including mania. I understand why those questions may be medically necessary. What frustrated me was having to repeat answers without feeling heard. I explained that I had not yet established care with a neurologist in New Jersey and that my Florida TMS provider could send complete records. I asked him to contact that office before requiring more appointments that might push treatment past my insurance deadline. He agreed. He also requested bloodwork and told me to get his email address from the front desk. When I asked, I was told the practice doesn't communicate by email. That contradiction only added to my concerns. What bothers me most is that I chose to be completely transparent about my medical history. I could have simply said I was seeking TMS for depression. Instead, I disclosed my accident and brain injury because physicians need the full picture to make informed decisions. I expected an honest, collaborative conversation--not to feel as though my history was an obstacle rather than valuable information. I've endured years of treatments, countless appointments, and tremendous out-of-pocket expenses. I know the difference between thorough medical care and an experience that leaves a patient feeling dismissed. I left feeling unheard, uncomfortable, and without confidence in this physician. TMS stimulates the brain. Choosing a knowledgeable, compassionate provider who communicates clearly is essential. I cannot speak to this physician's qualifications or anyone else's outcome, but based on my experience, I would not trust him with my TMS treatment. To anyone seeking care for depression, concussions, or TBI: do your research. Find someone who LISTENS, reviews your records, and treats you with respect. I've met extraordinary medical professionals throughout my recovery. Unfortunately, this experience ranks among my worst. A medical degree does not automatically earn a patient's trust. Trust is built through listening, knowledge, compassion, communication, and respect. This physician did not earn mine. I would not return or recommend him based on my experience. Denise and the nurse deserve recognition for their kindness, but that does not outweigh my experience with the physician responsible for my care.
