Project Cure Chicago is one of seven warehouses in the United States that works toward taking donated medical items, sorting them, and redistributing items to people/countries experiencing poverty, disasters, and violence. My work often donates excess supplies and furniture to Project Cure to avoid surplus items going to landfill.
Their organization mostly runs off donations and volunteer help. My team volunteered for 3 hours in the "pre-sort" area where were divided items up into bags based on expiration dates. From there, "final sort" goes through a more detailed sorting process before items are packaged and loaded onto trucks. Our time flew by but seeing our group of 6 empty three palette of boxes was so rewarding.
I highly recommend looking into this organization and the amazing work they do. I hope to volunteer again soon! read more
