Cherry mousse
Tracy W.

Our favorite date nights are at a tapas restaurant over the NC border so this was a risk, and paid off in spades. We started with sharing the crab ragoon toast and charred wings, which were perfectly seasoned and not "too charred". We moved onto the hanger steak to split and it was cooked perfectly as well. All dishes were portioned to be able to split and the presentation and taste were off the charts. My husband's IPA and my cocktail were also great pours. The cherry on top was the cherry mouse which we split, but easily could have enjoyed two as it was so yummy. Can't believe we waited So long to come to this adorable hangout spot and will definitely be back. The decorations were perfect and food even better.

First time at Prohibition & it was overall a pretty good experience. The decor and restaurant set up is really nice and they have a large selection of liquor. A lot of seating is provided and even a little loft area for a private area. The burger that I order was really good! That jam sauce was a great touch. The shrimp & grits unfortunately came out cold and didn't have as much flavor as we were hoping for. The chicken sandwich was also good and filling. Service was awesome, we really enjoyed our waitress. I would definitely come back and give some of the menu options a shot.

Brussels sprouts. Very saucy but tasty.

Service and seating was quick. Wasn't too busy. Ordered drink which took a while to receive, it was ok; Protaganist Golden ale. Brussels were very good and flavorful but a bit saucy. Street corn tostado was very good and delightfully tasty, could be a meal entree if ordered 2. Space was nice and not too loud but has live music stage which could change the vibe and comfort level. Look forward to trying pork chop in future.

I have really been anticipating going to Prohibition . The vibe was completely different from what I thought based on pictures and social media posting. It's more of a tavern style restaurant with a very casual atmosphere. The menu was modified due to the holiday. The customer service was excellent. I ordered the tuna poke tacos. I would not order these again. I feel like there was something missing... maybe a sauce or slaw of some sort. I also tried the hoisin wings, brussel sprouts, and deviled eggs. The brussels sprouts were cooked extremely well, but the flavor and sauce (chilli lime) was not present in the dish. The wings were good. I'm not sure how they cooked them, but they were literally falling off the bone. I am definitely open to coming back after the holidays and trying some other things that I saw on their standard menu.

Enjoyed our experience here, my husband and I came here for a birthday dinner celebration. The food was good, it was a bit pricey for my liking. We definitely enjoyed the deviled eggs, we enjoyed different takes on foods we love. My husband tried the shrimp and grits, one of his favorite meals. He wasn't used to having tomatoes or spinach in the dish but said it was good. I enjoyed my burger! I loved the decor, my husband and I both love history and vintage items so we were excited to see how they were incorporated.. We had an entire conversation on a piece (the ships telegraph), it's funny how a piece of decor/history can create memories in completely different ways. We also appreciate the Valentines decor, it added a festive feel to the pub. Our server (I wish I could remember her name) was great, she was attentive, provided great suggestions for food and drinks, she kept our drinks coming and definitely made us feel welcome. It was a good experience, we cannot wait for our next visit.

I have been to Prohibition twice. For context, I went to USC and lived in Columbia for about 3 years after graduating from college. One of my bigger complaints was the lack of bars to choose from outside of 5 points. Obviously Columbia has changed a lot and so we get Prohibition. I no longer live in Columbia but visit pretty regularly so when I'm in town I make it a point to try and stop in I ordered an espresso martini. I enjoyed it because it was a nice balance of coffee and froth. They also had watermelon High Noons as their seltzers, which are my favorite. The service was pretty quick, but I don't know how much this had to do with the fact that my best friend's husband knew one of the bartenders. I have not yet tried the food, so I might have to update my review once I get to. If you like a theme that is heavy on twinkle lights, I highly recommend Prohibition.

Same salad. One had steak and the other plain.

Aside from our waitress who was sweet, our visit there was less than enjoyable. Restaurant almost empty during parents weekend. The manager on staff Thursday night 9/11 does not know how to take care of her customers. Tried telling us these salad were the same size as another we ordered with steak in it. She swore it was the same amount of salad so we asked her for a bigger bowl to show her it was not. Instead of fixing our concern, she brought out a new salad, tossed it on the table, which looked like it was thrown together. A second manager came over and did the right thing. Overall food was average and priced way too high! It's a shame because we were looking forward to having a good time and meal with our daughter during family weekend and the whole experience was just terrible.

Manhattan and Carolina wren

All I got were drinks, so have to go back there for food. The bartender was awesome and we had a great convo. The ambience is the best part truly, it's the perfect level of dim in there where you can have a really romantic dinner. I got the Manhattan and sat in their lounge area and it was really good!

Main St. Manhattan and Carolina Wren

I came here after a long day of visiting my Alumna campus and stumbled upon this place for a couple cocktails. We immediately noticed how because the place is with its niche decor and an area that's very cozy and only for bar service which I thought was smart. He got the Main St. Manhattan and I got the Carolina Wren and we both loved our drinks. We're sad we never found this place when we lived in town because of the delicious dinner menu but we're glad to have given it a try.

Shrimp fried rice

Wow! I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Our server was funny, kind, and engaging. He gave us great suggestions on drinks as well as food choices. Most of the menu consists of small plates perfect for sharing. I started with a Caesar salad with anchovies. Salty and delicious. I then had the shrimp fried rice. This is a larger portion entrée that I shared with a friend. Unfortunately, they were out of dessert that night, so we couldn't enjoy a sweet treat. The restaurant includes larger tables, high tops and also has an upper deck area for seating. As we were finishing our meals, they began to set up for live entertainment. The bar is beautiful and the bar staff creates incredible drinks. I will return every time I am near Columbia. Don't miss it.

Brussel Sprouts

My friends and I made reservations for a Christmas girls night. The reason being we loved the Halloween experience. We had the absolute worst time!!! The menu was very limited, there are only so many rum drinks people want to drink. The waitress was friendly but the drinks being premixed doesn't allow for customizations and I absolutely hated my drink, I took and sip and immediately tried to send it back. The waitress wouldn't even ask or allow me to replace it. I ordered two appetizers as my entree and the shrimp looked and tasted like the frozen shrimp from Trader Joe's. The Brussel sprouts advertised as crispy were burned and mushy. And I felt sick after eating 4. One of my friends had no food options as a pescatarian who doesn't eat crab or lobster, because they were out of tofu already at 7:15 PM. Such a bad experience to have paid so much and to have looked forward to it only to be disappointed.

Beer battered cod and fries

Prohibition is an upscaled southern restaurant that has a bit of uniqueness with it's tapas and other regional dishes. The place is very beautiful and I love the upstairs which is a bit more private and has a great view of the place. In the evening, there was a band that did covers and original songs and they were so good. The service was also fantastic, and very attentive. Overall the food was very good with just a couple misses. We started off with the crab deviled eggs and the shrimp fried rice. The deviled eggs didn't have much crab to make it stand out but I liked the texture and flavor of the dish overall. The shrimp fried rice was delicious, the best item in my mind, but be mindful it's a tapa dish so you likely won't be full off it. I also ordered the battered cod and fries, I didn't like the curry so I'm glad I got it on the side. The cod unfortunately was overdone and therefore a bit dry. The fries were very tasty! Lastly, the cocktails were delicious as well. The old fashioned was very good and had some uniqueness to it. The Carolina Wren was also tasty. Amazing cocktails but would have expected a bit more flair or garnish for the price. Overall restaurant is a decent 4 and I would come back for the drinks and fried rice

The food was pretty good overall, but my chicken salad sandwich was extremely disappointing. The croissant was very dry, and the shredded chicken combined with the consistency of the dressing was not at all what I expected. After only a couple bites, I left the entire sandwich untouched. What was even more disappointing was that when our waitress brought the bill, she clearly noticed I hadn't eaten the sandwich and chose not to ask about it. At this price point for lunch, I would have expected the situation to be handled a little differently. We sat in the covered outdoor area, which was nice, but there's also an uncovered outdoor section with older picnic tables that don't really match the vibe of a more upscale lunch spot. If you plan to sit outside, I'd recommend making your seating preference clear when booking.

They were all so sweet and really went above and beyond to make sure it was a high-quality experience. I noticed that they openly advertise that they don't accept tips and have slightly higher prices in order to pay their workers a living wage, and the results were directly reflected in the customer service that I received. As for the food and drink (coffee), that was pretty good as well! While I do wish that they might have had bagels, the croissant that I substituted it for was warm, buttery, and tasty, and it was a nice change from my usual coffee shop meal, as I've only had a croissant a handful of times. The coffee was fine, and I loved how they offered free refills, which I've noticed that other local coffee shops usually don't. Finally, I loved the setting of the restaurant, which gave you the opportunity to either sit inside and enjoy the ambiance or on the outside patio and enjoy some peace and quiet. I also loved the artwork that they had on the walls, which the waitress informed me was painted by a local artist and which you could purchase if you wanted to. All-in-all, I loved smallSUGAR, will be back in the future, and would highly recommend stopping in!

Service was fine. Nothing particularly standout, but smooth and efficient. For drinks, the coffee was average. It wasn't bad by any means, just nothing memorable. Especially considering the price point. Food-wise, there were some highlights. The sweet potato bowl was well-dressed and flavorful, though it felt like it was missing a protein component to make it more complete. The shakshuka was very good overall, with great flavor, though it leaned a bit salty. The biggest issue was the bread portion. It simply wasn't enough for the dish. I ended up ordering an extra side, and while it's listed as two slices, it's really just one slice cut in half. At $4 for that portion, that is very unreasonable. That was a recurring theme. Pricing felt high across the board for what you receive. While the flavors were there, nothing really stood out as exceptional enough to justify the cost. Overall, not a bad visit. Just one where the value didn't quite match the experience.

Bison, elk, boar, rabbit. These are proteins you don't see on most menus. The restaurant leans into a woodland theme with greenery hanging throughout the space. It borders on a bit much, but the open kitchen visible from the dining room grounds the whole experience and adds a nice touch of theater. The seating was comfortable and well spaced, perfect for a family dinner where you actually want to hear each other talk. Our server was outstanding, easily 5 out of 5. She knew the menu cold, offered thoughtful recommendations, and struck that ideal balance of attentive without being intrusive. She made the evening better. The drinks were mostly a win. Two cocktails were excellent, creative and well balanced. A third was over iced and fell flat. Minor miss, but worth noting. The food is where The Hollow really shines. The charcuterie board was a fantastic start, featuring a well curated spread of wild game meats, quality cheeses, fig, and mustard. The mains delivered across the board: salmon, elk, and bison all came out beautifully with great flavor and generous portions. The sides deserved their own applause, which isn't something I say often. The dessert menu was the one soft spot. Nothing grabbed our attention, so we ended up heading across the street to Kaminsky's for something sweet. For a kitchen that puts this much care into everything else, the dessert offerings felt like an afterthought. A couple of notes on the bill to be aware of: we were charged a few dollars for swapping a vegetable side. There was a 3% credit card surcharge that caught us off guard. When you're out with the family and the tab runs into the hundreds $, most folks are paying with a card. That's a fee I'd want to know about upfront. On the menu, from the server, somewhere visible before the check arrives. The bottom line: The Hollow is a creative, well executed restaurant with standout food and excellent service. If you're in Columbia, it's well worth a reservation.

Upon entering the hostess informed us they were currently only serving the late night menu. We said no problem and elected to grab seats at the bar. There were several empty tables and a few empty seats @ the bar. However, the only two seats together at the bar needed to be cleared from the last patrons that were seated. We stood there for over 20 mins while Jacob continued to walk by never acknowledging us or the fact that we couldn't sit. When he finally cleared the dishes he just walked away, never cleaning the area. When he returned he still never greeted us or apologized for the wait, the mess... nothing. Jacob: What are you having? Me: Well hello... Jacob: Yea... what do you want? Me: Wow... ok. For starters can you please whip off the bar so we can properly have a seat. There is still food residue here from the last customers. ** we get a visible huff** He wipes down the bar and we proceed to order drinks, while he never really speak any more it's all via motions and body language. Amongst ourselves we check in with one another to confirm that we both were feeling very unwelcome. Instantly we decide that we will not be ordering anything additional and will be leaving after this one drink. Which is just as well because Jacob never returns. Someone , whom I can only assume was of a mangement status, asked if Jacob was helpful and we promptly and simultaneously said no and that we would like or bill. She shook her head in utter disbelief and disgust but then she also disappeared. Just so happened that Diamond, whom was on the other side of the bar happen to walk pass. She stopped and asked if we were ok after witnessing our frustration. We explained that we wanted the check and why we were leaving. She was super apologetic and closed out our tab. Her energy literal turned the experience around and if she would have came to our rescue sooner we would have considered staying. Thank you Diamond. Just A Note: Unfortunately, bad first impression because The Grand seems like it may offer a good time with the bowling lanes in the back.
