The creek is also great, but just be careful when it overflows not to play in it as there can be some deeper spots and it also can be pretty fast. The park is always very clean. Five natural or synthetic grass fields can be used for football, soccer, or lacrosse. Two boardwalks skirt part of a marsh to offer a nice stroll. The marsh attracts migrating birds as well as other critters. The walking trail includes interpretive signs. Wetlands, meadows, and rain gardens also add to Heartland's nature emphasis. My earlier review opinion hasn't changed: Towne is a wonderful park that should appeal to about any age and ability. My greatest criticism of it is that it's just feet from busy Highway 61 and you can't escape the traffic hum, even on the furthest trails. (If you overlook the traffic noise and award Towne five stars I won't argue.) Today I walked the periphery on a series of trails that put me on natural, crushed stone, and asphalt surfaces. They skirted two ponds and went up and down moderate hills. The feature asphalt trail is just over a mile and passes through woods and prairie. Children will enjoy the outdoor classroom that's as much playground as teaching tool.
