Recently, Jeff Gray, a kind and quiet activist and first amendment auditor who has a YouTube…read morechannel with hundreds of thousands of subscribers, stood with his handmade sign that says, 'God Bless the Homeless Vets'... not panhandling or being loud an obnoxious... outside the library. On public land, totally legal. Sarah, the manager at the library told him he wasn't wanted and he must be at least 50 feet away, across the street. He respectfully told her that he was on public land and that he was fine were he was. She sent security out to tell him to leave. He stayed. A gaggle of 'Karens' came out to tell him how wrong he was and one called 911, lying to the operator by saying he was getting loud, though he was the quietest one there. The police came, and informed the library staff that they were wrong and that Jeff was right, that he didn't have to leave just because they didn't like the way he looked or his message, 'God Bless Homeless Vets'. Betcha none of them served our country as they look down upon others who have. Maybe they should read the Constitution there at the library. You embarrassed yourself, Sarah, for all to see. Here is the video, and please notice the kindness that was bestowed on Jeff by a caring resident before Sarah and the Karen gagglers entered the chat. Actually part of St Augustine, it is somewhat isolated from the city and is on Anastasia island A library that is very mundane and boring seen from the outside, it becomes simply stunning once you start to look around the interior. Incredible birdhouses, lighthouses, fantastic scenes of indigenous birds and wildlife and other incredible works of art are everywhere. The kid's room is a wonderful place where young imaginations can run wild. Sure the library has books and computers but it is the art and decor that makes this library very, very special. An ordinary place for books that was turned into a very, very cool place to walk slowly and see unique things that will stimulate and excite.

They didn't just answer our questions, they went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. A very special shoutout to Alex. I always get a little nervous telling people we're new to Florida because everything is unfamiliar, but Alex made us feel right at home. She was unbelievably patient, warm, and just an all-around amazing person. You can tell she truly loves helping people, and that kind of service is rare. If there were a way to write a letter to her manager, the library board, or even the Chamber of Commerce recognizing how wonderful she is, I absolutely would. Employees like Alex make a lasting impression and are the reason people keep coming back. Thank you to everyone at the Bartram Trail Branch for making our family feel so welcome. We walked in hoping to get library cards and walked out feeling like we had found a little piece of our new community. Five stars isn't enough!

They have dedicated areas for kids, teens, a quiet room, public computers with internet access, and a hallway filled with discounted books. It also looks like they offer plenty of activities and programs for all ages, which is great to see. My favorite feature, though, was the drive-up book return. I know it might sound like a small thing, but on those days when you're feeling overstimulated and just want to return your books without getting out of the car, it's absolutely perfect. Whoever came up with that idea deserves some credit because it's honestly genius.

The standout is definitely the main dome building inside. The interior is genuinely stunning, like the kind of place that makes you feel like you're in Europe somewhere rather than Florida. We were not expecting that at all. We also happened to walk through the quad right as some kind of dunk tank event was going on where students were getting people to pay to try to dunk faculty members. We had no idea what was going on but we stopped and watched for a while because how could you not? If you're already in St. Augustine it's an easy and free thing to add to your day. Just walk around, admire the beauty, and hope you get lucky enough to catch something fun happening on campus like we did.

Yes, 1 Book I will own up to and will have to replace, but the 2nd book had not any noteworthy damage. However, the librarian told me I would have to pay roughly $57.00 to replace both books. I feel this is outrageous, and I wonder why the library system does not have a refurbishing team. In my former state and library system, there was a refurbishing team set up to repair damaged goods. I pay my taxes to the state of FL which also pays for their county libraries and yet I am now double paying for damaged goods. This does not seem fair. So, patron of the library system please be aware of your materials. Also of note, the librarian named Jocelyn accosted me outside the library about the damaged materials. I feel angered by her malicious onset outside the library in the parking lot. This sort of behavior should have been handled in a more professional manner.

That's not uncommon, some of the coolest libraries I have been in have been schools in a previous life. The library has a very spacious feel to it and you can flow from room to room without running into other people or stuff. Has a definitely school type feel to it. The kids room is especially nice and was obviously design for play as much as reading. All kinds of things to keep the hyperactive delinquents occupied. A nice community room and some very friendly and helpful librarians as well as computers and wifi make this a library that is both very practical but still has that small town charm. To make it even better, the library has a resident kitty named Elsie. She of course goes where ever she wants but learned never to be intrusive and bother people that don't want her around. Of course when she found out we were more than willing to give her attention we couldn't get rid of her. Hastings is a cool library in a small town.
