The interior is visually stunning as it's just full of gold from top to bottom. The most impressive part is the ceiling mural that has tons of figures and other symbolism. When you walk in you will immediately look up because it will catch your eye. Outside you'll often see people hanging out. The front area is a spot where calendas often happen which is a fun celebration. It's a must-see church when you're visiting Oaxaca.

The front is filled with colorful ice cream shops and locals enjoying this beautiful plaza. The Basilica itself is beautiful and very cool architecture. I really enjoyed the angels that are almost flying at you at all the corners of this magnificent holy place. We went to mass here and then enjoyed some incredible roasted corn with all the fixings.

It's the main Catholic church in the region and it still operates today. It took 200 years to complete and had to be rebuilt multiple times due to earthquakes throughout the years. If you're visiting Oaxaca, chances are you will be visiting and walking by this area. It's right next to the Zocalo (main town square). It can be very busy with vendors, food stalls, and performers, and it can also be filled with people trying to sell you fabric, hats, and tours.

Mass was about to begin so I had to be mindful & respectful of taking photographs. It has a pretty large shaded plaza where if you don't want to enter the church or attend Mass you can sit & reflect. Peaceful away from the hustle & bustle of Oaxaca Centro. Don't miss. It's a great walk from the Zocalo taking about 25 minutes.

It's only a block away from the Zocalo main square but does not have as many people standing outside. However, you'll still occasionally see some people sitting on the steps just outside. It's just a place you stop by and take some pictures and then leave.
