I'm surprised I'm the first review! What an incredible spot. The prismas basálticos are giant rock formations similar to what you'd see at The Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. However, unlike those which are right on the ocean, these are down in a canyon and have a waterfall. They're super pretty and make for great photos. They're sort of busy but it's mostly Mexican people - I was shocked Americans haven't infiltrated this spot for the gram yet (props to me for having family in the area taking me to local spots). In fact, I'm almost hesitant to write the review and share pics because I don't want them to come swarm this hidden gem!
The area is well developed with lots of little vendor stands selling souvenirs, purses, clothing, etc. There's food stands and pulque stands around the area as well, and clean bathrooms. There's a museum of the prismas also.
When you get there, you can choose to cross a suspension bridge for some cool views but omgggg does that bridge sway when people are on it. It's definitely a little nerve wracking but hey, fun once you've passed it.
Overall this was a great trip after a morning at Teotihuacán. We went straight from there and then to Real del Monte. read more
