    Lobster & mussels
    Michelle Y.

I came here in a group of 4 on a Friday night for a birthday celebration. The food was all incredible and the waitress was so knowledgeable and able to answer all our questions and make great recommendations. Highly highly highly recommend this restaurant, and I would 10/10 come back. We got a few things to share (oyster, scallops, crab legs, pasta) and then we each got our own entrees. 2 of us got the mussels and lobster dish which was fantastic. This came with fries which I thought were a bit overly salty, but the sauce was fantastic. The 2 others in our party got the duck and the steak, and we also got chicken to share. Food and drinks were fantastic, the atmosphere was perfect, and the service was top notch. Absolutely recommend!

Alrighty here we go - is principe worth it? The meals cost a pretty penny which makes you ask this question, but as soon as you walk in and are greeted by a nicely dressed host asking to take your coat, you know you're in for an above average experience. Most important thing to note - the portions are small but packed with flavor! If you've ever seen a fancy restaurant in a show or movie, and they give guests super small bites of food garnished with a fancy leaf - this is that type of place. It's kind of silly to have a party of 6 order a lobster entree expecting a whole lobster only for it to be 1 lobster tail cut in half. BUT, and it's a big but, these were some of the best bites of food I've ever had with beautiful presentation I've never seen so I really couldn't let myself knock off a star. Highlights - everything was amazing but the rock shrimp pasta was so buttery and flavorful it is a must get. They had a tuna crispy rice special that night which was amazing as well and the oysters were so flavorful. The snow crab claws were delicious and the bread with goat cheese - wow. Don't even get me started on dessert you NEED the ice cream cookie sandwich (it had caramel inside too). Overall YES, this place is worth it with the note that portions are small so order more of what you like. But it is definitely a once in a lifetime dining experience.

So when a restaurant is new and trendy and expensive it almost always leaves plenty of room for disappointment, namely because food can sometimes be an afterthought. Have to say, Principe delivered big time on all fronts. Went for our 5 year anny and have a wonderful meal. Food, service and ambiance were all excellent. The menu is split into raw, starters, pastas and mains. We decided to stray away from a main to have more variety of all the other wonderful menu items that preceded. While everything was great, the raw bar (which is a big part of their concept) stole the show. For one, because everything was so so fresh and delicious. But even more, because their preparations of basic raw bar bites like oysters and scallops and crispy rice spicy tuna were so amazing. They don't just drop you an oyster for you to adorn yourself, they serve you an oyster that's been masterfully created with all different amazing flavors. What a delicious bit. Same went for the scallops, tuna and lobster salad. Top notch. The starters were great too, particularly loved the pea Caesar salad (don't ask questions, just order it). Pastas were good, the malfadine rock shrimp is their famous one. Tortellini in brodo was nice, it wasn't bad, but def the least memorable and somewhat bland (can skip). Drinks were really good too. Service was great, shout-out to Jordanne who was super attentive and knowledgable (brought her sommelier sensibilities to walking us thru the food in great detail). And last but not least, the ambiance. The whole space is beautifully designed. The upstairs is the "main" dining room. It's really beautiful and a bit livelier/louder. The downstairs is a dim lit vibe, def cozier, more intimate and in my opinion the place to be. Really nice. Overall a super experience , go enjoy

WOW!!! What a beautiful space. The staff is impeccably dressed and very professional. The cocktail list and the wine list are well put together. The food is plated so well. This is a restaurant that you can simply post as many photos as you want on Instagram or Facebook or TikTok and impress your friends and colleagues. You are living the good life. What more could you ask for? TASTE! Yes, unfortunately they have made everything for the imagery but have forgotten that the primary purpose of a restaurant is to serve wonderful, flavorful food. The Basil Tortellini in Brown Butter Brodo is truly outstanding, rich and full of flavor. Beyond that, everything else lacked flavor. I hate to be hard on new restaurants, but I must be honest Two stars for the Tortellini and one star for the great service.

Food 8/10 The raw bar was amazing. The scallops and oysters had so many different flavors and textures. The tuna was also pretty good, but not the best I've had. Quite fatty and pairs well with the persimmon. The bread came with butter and chili oil. I almost died from the chili oil I choked on a chili flake and my entire chest and throat felt like I was going to combust lol. But besides that the bread was so soft. The branzino was super tender and flavorful, definitely recommend that as well. The cauliflower and mafaldine were just okay though, those are better skipped. Atmosphere 7/10 Very vibey, dim lighting. Quite loud inside so it was a little hard to hear sometimes. Space is available for large parties. Service 7/10 They were nice and all, but lacked the attention to detail to refill my water glass when it got empty and on multiple occasions I had to ask for more water.

Everything from start to finish was 10/10. Made a reservation for downstairs a couple weeks in advance (recommend because it got really packed around 7pm). The upstairs is more bright/restaurant style and downstairs is darker/more loungey. We ordered the Scallops and Sea Urchin from the Raw Bar to start with. Both were fresh and had delicious toppings to accompany, but the Sea Urchin was the better bite here. For drinks, I ordered the Cucumber Limoncello Sour and my boyfriend ordered the Chinotto Sidecar. Both drinks were well balanced and had good flavors. Since these were tiny raw bites, we decided to order the Rock Shrimp Madalfine as our main "Appetizer." This was sooo good and I would come back to order this as my main. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the rock shrimp was so juicy and the sauce wasn't too salty/delicious. For our Mains, we chose the Sweet Corn Polenta and Grilled Duck. I never usually order Polenta, but this one spoke to me because I love corn. This was so good and I was surprised I liked it as much as I did. The other entree was the Grilled Duck with Blueberry. Cooked to perfection. It is on the pricier side, but the food is actually worth the price point here. Only regret is not having enough room to try the dessert!

Principe is a solid new addition to the area! If you like things served over ice, this is the place for you. I tried: + Mezcal and apricot spritz - good + Cucumber limoncello sour - great + Marinated tuna - great + Oysters - great + Snow crab claws - only miss, skip this + Scallops - great + Rock shrimp mafaldine - best thing I ate + Basil tortellini in broth - great + Lemon meringue popsicles - great and so fun Gorgeous restaurant and service was great. Just note the raw bar section involves very small portions - literally 2 bites - but they are clear about this on the menu. Complimentary house bread was also incredible!

Super vibey date night spot with yummy seafood options. Price point feels a bit high bc the portions are bite sized. But still, loved the scallops with pistachio The highlight is the complimentary bread. It's like an English muffin and has the perfect fluff & chew. Delish with the goat butter For the main course we wanted the duck but it takes an hour to make?? Crazy. Instead, got the rock shrimp mafaldine. Kinda over cooked but a solid choice. For dessert, highly recommend their fior di latte ice cream, topped with pepper and olive oil. Super smooth and tastes very expensive.

We sat in the bar area, so not sure what the rest of the space looks like. However, service was good and the food delicious. Also, they had a spall selection of zero proof drinks, which I always appreciate. Oysters: good Sea urchin: absolutely delicious! Rock shrimp malfadine: amazing! Branzino: comes deboned & tasty Lobster: the sauce is so rich and perfect as a dip with the accompanying fries (they fries are also amazing!) Ice cream sammy: best ice cream sandwich ever.

If you enjoy seafood - this place is worth the hype! The raw bar items were all good (crab claws, tuna, scallops), although a bit overpriced for only 2 pieces per order. The pastas were the star - the tortellini in a broth and the rock shrimp. We'd say these 2 are must gets. We also got the duck to share. Surprised at the combo of duck with blueberries but it worked quite well together. Special shout out to the goat cheese butter and bread they serve on the side!

Beautiful ambiance, excellent food, amazing service. A great choice to stop by for your next big occasion or a dinner to impress your guests. The complimentary bread with a goat cheese spread is fabulous. I also loved the stuffed gnocchi as well as the branzino- both full of flavor & worth the order.

Came here for my boyfriends birthday and we were blown away by the ambiance, food, and service. The restaurant itself is so new, modern, and chic from the exterior to interior. I highly recommend having a reservation when you come here. We shared a variety of dishes from the menu because we wanted to try everything. We started with the tuna and snow crab from the raw bar - both were absolutely delicious and fresh. The bialys came next which were piping hot and paired well with the butter and oil dips. Next we're the three pastas and fries, my favorite was the rock shrimp but they were all up to par by NYC pasta standards. And then we finished with the olive oil dessert and complimentary birthday cupcake. All in all a fantastic dining experience. It's a really lovely spot to enjoy a date night or dinner with friends.

    Uni, oysters
    Amanda W.

Wow wow wow! As someone who dines out a lot, it says something when I tell you that Principe was one of the best meals I've had in a while. Everything was beyond delicious. From the raw bar we got the oysters, tuna, and uni. The uni was so good we even ordered more after tasting it. After that we did the sucrine salad (which was ok), ndunderi (unbelievable), king crab risotto (yumm), and the duck (very solid). Our server already told us to save room for dessert because they're worth it, and yup they sure were! We did the key like ice cream sandwich and hummingbird torte - the perfect finish for the meal. I forgot to mention the cocktails were excellent too! What made the experience even better was the staff. They are super knowledgeable and orchestrated the timing of each course perfectly.. even better than the timing of a tasting menu. If all of the above is not enough, the space is beautiful, having previously been an art gallery. I'll be returning again just to try all the items I've missed from the menu.

The flavors were good, the portion was surprisingly filling and they have a great lunch deal for $15 fettuccine Alfredo with a topping I believe. For a good reasonably priced fresh pasta bite I would recommend to anyone working or hanging out nearby def give them a try!

Walking in, there is a decent amount of seating and you can see them making the food fresh in front of you. I do like how small the menu is - small menu generally menus fresher food. I don't really eat dairy so just ordered the fettuccine without cheese and then chose the arrabbiata sauce. I wish they gave me a heads up about how spicy the sauce would be - my mouth was legit on fire. Food wise - I didn't love the portion sizes, I was definitely hungry after it was over and felt the texture of the pasta was softer than I'd like - probably because it's fresh. Even though I was burned this time (literally with the spice), I'd be down to come back and try another one of their sauces and even be more open minded about adding dairy since it seems like one of their specialties!

I was at this tasty Italian spot a while ago for dinner with one of my groups, where we shared a…read morebunch of dishes as per usual. The place wasn't super crowded, but there were eventually some people there. The place felt comfortable, and the service was friendly. To drink, I got the Blood Orange Negroni for $17 with Hendricks gin, Campari, sweet vermouth, fresh blood orange juice, and a slice of orange as garnish. I usually prefer Negronis that lack Campari as I find that liquor to be a bit too sweet, at least as far as amaro goes, but this was tasty and better balanced as the juice and gin helped to reduce the sweetness. I would recommend it. They gave us some fresh bread with some good olive oil to begin with, which was tasty. Our only appetizer was the $18 Fried Trio, listed as a tempting mix of crispy fried goat cheese w/ honey & chili oil, carbonara arancini, and capers croquettes. This also came with some tomato sauce for dipping, presumably primarily for the arancini. My preference of the bunch was the fried goat cheese due to the bit of funk and spice. I also liked the arancini as the texture was nice, while my least favorite were the croquettes. This was a nice mix, though perhaps a bit salty. For main dishes, we got two pastas, which were both $19, and two entrees. My favorite of the entrees easily was the Mushroom & White Truffle Lasagna with shiitake, porcini, and cremini blend of mushrooms, béchamel sauce, truffle ricotta, and fresh mozzarella on top. Many lesser spots would mix all these things and make the dish a bit too earthy or almost perfumy from the truffle and mushroom flavor, but not this one. There was just enough of the béchamel and cheese that it was pretty balanced. The pasta texture was nice also. This was rich but delicious, and easily worth the price. I wasn't as big a fan, though that is more because of a caveat, of the Hot Rigatoni Vodka With Guanciale & Sausage, listed as rigatoni pasta in a creamy, spicy vodka sauce, paired with rich guanciale and spicy sausage. I generally prefer guanciale in dishes like pasta alla gricia rather than in already spicier tomato sauces, as I tend to find that the flavor doesn't shine through as much. Otherwise, the pasta was cooked perfectly, and there was plenty of meat inside. We liked both of the mains also. A slight preference goes to the Flounder a la Francese for $26, with lightly battered flounder pan-fried to golden perfection and finished with a delicate white wine and lemon butter sauce. It was a large piece of fish, and it was indeed tender with a light batter. There were plenty of capers, but it wasn't too salty, and the bit of pasta on the side was perfectly cooked as well. I would recommend this. Our last entree was the $34 Short Ribs With Polenta, consisting of tender, slow-braised short ribs over a creamy bed of polenta. The texture of the polenta was nice, and the short ribs were indeed tender, but not too fatty. This was the plainest of the entrees, but it was still tasty. This was a tasty Italian spot with quality food at reasonable prices. I would definitely go back.

There were only two other tables with guests in the restaurant. The service was super quick. I got the pulled pork tortellini; the tangy, butter sauce was really good, but the tortellini portion was small. I preferred the rigatoni that my husband got. The bread that they bring to the table was fresh and delicious. I would come here again.

Was also thoughtful in handing us our orders correctly which was nice. For the food itself I heard good things and was hoping to love it more-- but I think I was slightly disappointed. The flavors aren't so bad overall and if you have a pasta itch it'll scratch. But I've tried other places better at a similar or even cheaper price point with protein added in. I got the "some like it hot" while my friend got "midnight desire" with burrata added in. I paid about 22 for each dish. Now for my thoughts - flavor for "some like it hot" was not bad, sauce was a slight bit watery for my liking. The spice was nice and I liked that part the most. Pasta was "OK". The ravioli was stuck together for some, filling was adequate but, I would've liked a little more. I don't want to sound harsh, but it was all around just an ok spot. Maybe it was just that day. Burrata added is nice, I took mine to go do sadly it was melted on top (recommend to pack the burrata separately for to go orders) - "midnight desire" is basically vodka and the flavor for this one was kind of odd for me. Not the normal vodka I am used to. I personally wouldn't really get it again. It wasn't a bad sauce, just not like vodka I know. Had a slight "bitter(?)" aftertaste from some seasoning I guess. I'm not a pasta connoisseur but I AM Italian and I've tasted a wide ranger of pastas lol-- I think yummy cheese pasta in Hell's Kitchen offers a similar concept, portion but is more filling, diverse options for adding and overall, slightly cheaper. Perhaps I'll give this place another try on another day..
