This steakhouse is trying. The menu is traditional as advertised. The staff are eager and friendly - a plus. The atmosphere is amazing. The bar is busy and has views. They have all the ingredients for a great restaurant. But sadly, the meal was a miss. I ordered a medium ribeye. It came out rare. Very rare. I sent it back. It came back rare/medium rare. The restaurant was only serving about a dozen other customers at that time as I was eating at 5:30) , so there is no good explanation for why a steakhouse can't cook a steak to medium on 2 separate tries. That alone would have earned them a three star rating in my book, but the steak was terribly bland. I'm not sure it even got salt and pepper during preparation. The atmosphere is lovely, great for a romantic evening or a business dinner. The wait staff goes above and beyond, my water cup was never once empty. Kalen was our waitress and she is superb. Checked on us constantly and had a very welcoming and friendly attitude. The steak is the best I've ever put in my mouth and we've had steak all over the country. The sides and dessert were great. My friend and I went to Prime 102 after getting in from a long flight from LA. I called ahead and asked if there was a dress code. The woman who answered the phone assured us to come as we are, so we came in sweatpants and all. When we walked in I was taking back by the cool setting and architecture. I was also very worried that they would change their mind after seeing us in our most comfortable travel attire! To my surprise they were even more welcoming and friendly in person, if that's even possible! The setting is upscale but they were planning cool music, not top forties junk, but interesting music I had never heard. The service was more than friendly, the staff asked us about ourselves and our visit to Tyler and we thoroughly enjoyed the conversation! Mind you, we are from LA and we haven't seen people faces besides our family members and close friends in over a year due to covid, so seeing there smiling faces was an absolute treat! We decided we couldn't pick just one entree, so we choice many different starters! I especially loved the pork belly and seafood! I was surprised that Texas seafood could be better than what we get is Los Angeles! Big complements to the chef! To the owner of this restaurant- you have an amazing team, thank you all for making this meal the highlight of our trip! Could I give 3.5 ? Another dining experience at this beautiful restaurant. Wait staff is friendly. Service at initial set down was Very Slow. But when someone finally appeared things went better. The food was very good. However, one small request for horseradish turned into the never ending saga. When a second request was finally honored our meals were mostly finished. So, why bother? Waitress Toni had a really good personality. Wine service all around needs improvement, especially for a restaurant of this caliber. We will dine here again but understand the pros and cons. read more

You really can't beat the atmosphere in this great old building. I think it's always positive if the kitchen is visible. The bar is very good with a great selection of food and drinks. I have been many times and the service has been good to great. It just depends on who you get. The reception is always nice and polite. Just an elegant steakhouse with service of bygone days, at least they're trying. Hard to do these days. All in all we had a wonderful time last Friday before going ballroom dancing. First had a cocktail in the club bar, the service was beautiful, the drinks while pricey but stout. Wonderful ambiance that we enjoyed before going to the dining area. Dark and elegant. They need a dress code to complement the setting but I understand today's casual attire too. Started with a beautiful popover with butter which was delightful and flaky. Ordered a ribeye that was excellent, but no baked potatoes? Those are badly needed, settled for scalloped potatoes and asparagus. The only thing that I would add is a dance floor and dance music befitting the ambiance and I don't mean rock and roll since it's not that kind of place. We went here for our 5 year anniversary dinner. I had high expectations based on the fact that this is an upscale place. The service we received was not indicative of an upscale restaurant. The server spilled some of our bottle of wine. I expected at least a complimentary glass or to have it comped.. no. We finally got our $120 steak and had to sit there and let it get cold because we were waiting for our silverware and steak knives. The server also forgot to put in our crab cake order, so we didn't get those until the end of the meal. We hoped to eat it with our steak.. no. I will say, we were comped for the crab cakes.. which were not all they were hyped up to be. All that to say, if we are paying $200+ for a meal, I expect to have top notch service. We came in on a Tuesday night and I think our expectations may have been high but we're quickly lowered. Our $38 sea bass (piece of fish was beautiful) entree was so bland that I actually asked for salt! The dish includes some mashed sweet potatoes which were fairly tasty and the complimentary bread is fluffy like croissants with a creamy cheese spread. Sides are separate family style. The Brussels sprouts were brutally burned. The wait staff was very polite and friendly. Atmosphere is quiet and classy 1930s feel. Overall a disappointing venture on our wedding anniversary. Most expensive mediocre meal that I've ever experienced. It wasn't terrible, but just not good. And then the price you pay for average is quite the insult. The ambiance is 5 stars for Tyler, but I would give the rest 1-2 stars. Service, while friendly, missed the mark on a few errors with the order and execution which included timing of the drinks (forgot one after 10 minutes and then no ice - and this was a warm soda bottle). Desert wasn't executed as explained with the cream sauce (but didn't completely ruin the dish). We received the wrong side, but it was quickly remedied and we got the extra side on the house, so a minor bonus. Food for the most part was bland and not well executed. Fried oysters were way too crispy and some were burnt, which shriveled the oysters to nothing. The Foie Gras, while a nice large piece and attractive presentation, had zero richness and flavor. The crab cakes, the high point, were decent and was also a good portion with a solid ratio of crab to other ingredients. The dry aged prime ribeye was sadly no better than upper choice bought at the grocery store. It didn't have the dry aged flavor one would expect, and tenderness and gristle level was more akin to Texas Roadhouse or Outback. Not bad steaks, and it was cooked correctly to the order of medium rare, however, not fitting for a place called Prime... Deserts, while sounding very tasty, were no better lacking complexity and decadence. The bread pudding had a unique light consistency using croissant dough, but didn't have much wow factor and was drenched in cream so became a soggy mess. The butter cake wasn't bad, but nothing more than a basic piece of cake topped with a scoop of Ice cream, neither remarkable to what was sold as highly requested. At the end if the day it was edible, we didn't need to send anything back, but was way short of expectation earning a 3 star. They are new, still seeming to get the staff and kitchen in sync and on point, and has potential to be great, but there's still a ways to go here. It will be a while before we return. read more

The menu is full of wonderful choices. Our table shared Caesar salad and a lobster in a fabulous sauce. Our entrées included the most delicious perfectly prepared steak, crabcakes, and smoked salmon. Prime 102 - music change? We have been several times and have always had wonderful meals and a quiet enjoyable time. We went this week for an anniversary and while the food and wine were fabulous the atmosphere has changed. There was music playing rock and roll that was a little too loud, well, loud enough to be a little disturbing for our table. The maître d spent most of his time standing at the next table talking with his back to us. The hostess and our waiter were obvious friends as every time our waiter walked past the hostess stand to go towards the kitchen, they would high-five each other. We will give it another try in hopes that it was an unusual night, and that the music is lower and a more relaxing atmosphere. read more

Had a double date night recently. Our waitress was great. The food was so-so. I got a pork chop.. the outside crust tasted on the burned side. My husband had a filet. Initially, he cut down the middle and it was to his liking. But as he got more towards the edges, it was well done (he's a medium rare type of guy). Our friends' steaks were cooked well. The asparagus side was on the bland side but the Parmesan truffle fries were good. Overall, I wouldn't personally go back, but it is a nice atmosphere for a date night or special occasion. read more

Started with drinks, a crab cake for appetizer followed by the 22 oz 45 day Dry Aged Ribeye! Also had the sweet potato purée, mushrooms, and Mac & Cheese for our sides - all of which were fantastic! Best waiter I think I have ever had anywhere - he took the time to walk us through the menu and give recommendations since it was our first time dining. Everyone in the place (owners, chef, staff, etc) is personable, sincere, knowledgeable, and happy to help make our dining experience the best it can be.
