They had also performed a swab test. They offered three packages that they recommended to combat these issues. The first was a package for $3400 that included a UV light to fight off any growth. Next package was the UV light itself, $1799. My husband told them we weren't interested in anything other than the service we signed up for. Then we had to listen to all kinds of scare tactics about how bad our internal air is and the dangerous particles floating around outside and in, not to mention the dust coming from the great salt lake that we're breathing as well. My husband finally made it clear that we didn't want any extras so they proceeded in finishing the duct cleaning downstairs in our partially finished basement. We were happy with the work they performed upstairs so they billed us, we paid and they departed. We went downstairs and found that all the lights had been left on and our basement floor was covered in debris. We stepped on hard pieces of sheet metal shards which were getting stuck in our shoes and saw that our cold air return ducts had been cut in six places. This was never discussed with us and we were shocked to say the least. They cut 6 access holes in a twenty foot duct run. We didn't have a final walk through as required by their company policy which we were informed of later. We had to clean our basement right away before our dog or one of us stepped on the many shards of sheet metal pieces and fallen hardware. We called Apex to notify them of the condition our home was left in and the access holes. A customer service rep came out a few days later to survey the duct cuts and the mess and he agreed the cuts are sometimes needed but should be discussed with the homeowners. He also thought they were excessive. He offered to sweep our basement and re-tape the duct openings but we had already cleaned it so we wouldn't get hurt from the sharp sheetmetal pieces. We're so disappointed in the manner our home was left in and the number of access holes in our ducts. I can't recommend this service from Apex based on our experience and want to warn others to be watchful for these actions if you plan to use their service.

Purchased an AC unit from APEX a little over two years ago as a favor to a friend whose son worked…read morefor the company, and APEX was trying to break into the Southern Utah market. I had trouble with the unit pretty much from the start and had a local HVAC company out several times to fix this and that. It came to a head a couple of months ago when the unit quit entirely. Contacted APEX; their advice: Change the air filter. A local HVAC company came out and diagnosed that our compressor was shot. Why? Because APEX sold us a two-stage unit, but their techs wired it as a one-stage unit, which caused it to have to work twice as hard, overheat, and die. Plus, their techs put in a new duct in the attic and, for some reason, placed it over a joist, which compressed it to the point that less than half the normal airflow was getting through, making the compressor work even harder. End result: I didn't have to pay for the part because it was under warranty, but I did have to pay $2600 for labor and refrigerant. Potential buyer: Be very, very wary of this company. They earned this one-star review big time.

Tyler and Skyler showed up to install two tall toilets...and some other stuff that kept changing. I…read morereally appreciate the flexibility as I figured out what I needed. Tyler originally came last week and gave me an estimate on options, describing the pros and cons of each. He was very knowledgeable and I really felt like he was honest and forthright. We ended up with two toilets, two grab bars, and repairing a broken water controller in the tub. I though it just needed to be screwed back on and asked for help with that, but it turned out a part was broken (my dad had fallen and hit it), so Tyler gave me instructions and I ran to Home Depot while they were working on the toilets. Tyler ran into a snag with one of the toilets. We've been aware from right after moving in that the builders here cut a lot of corners, and they also did that with the toilet installment. So Tyler had to work around the weird jerry-rigging done by the lousy builders, resulting in extra work and extra time. He explained the issue and showed me how he was dealing with it. In the meantime, Skyler worked on the broken water controller, discovering more damage than expected. They didn't even charge me for that word, saying since it didn't take them any more time, since Skyler worked on it while Tyler took care of the weird toilet issues. They consulted with me all along the way about how and where to install the grab bars, checking to make sure they were absolutely solid, having me look over everything and give my ok. Everything looks great. I really appreciate the professionalism and expertise of these men. Our home is a safer place, and I am so thankful. They were able to come do the job quickly (two days after I accepted the estimate). These guys will have my business in the future.

The copper lining of my outdoor spigot must have had some water in it over the winter, subsequently froze, and caused a major crack in the pipe. This spigot just so happens to be the only one available for my swamp cooler to connect to. Being without any sort of AC for any period of time during the Utah summer is a bad time, so I am glad Hot and Soft were able to finish this up quick. Shoe covers, on time, knowledgeable, and friendly. All I could ever ask for when it comes to anyone in the trades, but especially someone repairing stuff on my home. Their prices are fair, and the repair itself was done in less than an hour. I would definitely recommend this team and any of their techs. Will be using them in the future as well.

Several minutes later, an explosion occurred which blew the glass window to fragments and flung parts of the metal frame eight feet into the living room. It was a mess. I called again and they came to investigate and clean up the debris. I don't know what caused the explosion and they didn't either. The reason I'm giving a one-star review was because of the promise they would research vendors for spare parts for repairs. They never made contact with me again.

Stuart again was prompt in getting back to me after he received the information he requested, but more importantly, he offered some suggestions to try to resolve the problem on my own. His sound advice indeed resolved the issue! Not many places would take the time to offer up some suggestions and would instead go right to scheduling a service call. This type of experience should tell you a lot about Mad Hatter Chimney Sweeps -- not only were they very responsive back -- but they also operate a very ethical business that is not out to, may I say, screw you and maximize a sale. Can't say enough good things about this outfit. They are highly recommended.
