Our spot was completely grass; we drove our truck onto it and had a HUGE space to set up camp. Our spot had an overgrown field about a hundred feet back, and a nice tree for shade. Other tent spots backed up to the woods, across the mowed field from us. The bathrooms here were very simple and clean. There was always toilet paper and soap, so it's being maintained. The showers are also nice but simple; to turn on you set a timer between 1-5. The water temperature is automatic but very comfortable. The owner went above and beyond to accommodate our 1am arrival; she called to check our status, left a map with a highlighted route and notes on how to get to our site, and even put an orange traffic cone next to the picnic table so we could see it in the dark! We are avid campers and adventurers, so this additional touch really made West Haven stand out. It was 10 minutes to get to town, and 20 to the tip of Presque Isle. There's a pool AND small fishing pond, paved roads throughout the campground and most sites are grassy, not gravel.

On our most recent overnight stay, we were one of only three occupied spaces in the entire campground. When we returned from a day out with our granddaughter, we found four large trailers filled with groups of adult men placed just feet from our camper. With dozens of empty spaces available, this placement was completely unnecessary and inconsiderate. The booking process specifically asks how many people will be on site, yet no effort was made to inform us that such large groups would be packed in so close. Each trailer,(not camper) contained at least five men, and the resulting noise and disruption ruined what should have been a quiet family stay. These men kept wondering around our campsite and occupying empty campsite picnic tables all around us due to the size of their group. When we voiced our concerns, the response from the office was unprofessional and dismissive -- essentially a "too bad, so sad" attitude. We felt so uncomfortable and unsafe that we packed up and left early. This complete lack of regard for guests' comfort and experience is unacceptable.

When we arrived, the owner explained about not transporting firewood., and buying it from this place. All campers most likely know this already. Understandable, since live trees are a valuable asset to the campground and surrounding area. Disease and bugs that kill trees are a problem to be avoided. Store is well stocked, adequate laundry facilities. Nice amenities for families. We are birders, so found this campground convenient to Presque Isle SP and Erie NWR. Also saw birds and bunnies around the campground, fish and a snapping turtle in beautiful pond. We stayed 5 nights, got to chat with the owners numerous times, no complaints. Rules are reasonable and necessary to keep the place enjoyable. We were refunded money before our stay for an extra person we thought might be coming, but didn't. We saw parents and children enjoying themselves fishing and riding rented pedal cars. The only person I saw getting " yelled at" by owner was a lady who took her dog into the restroom. ( the one that had the dog park beside it) So I personally can't agree with the one-star reviews. Read them for entertainment, if you have time to waste. . From the moment we arrived, we felt that the campground was heavily monitored and controlled. We were told that an extra vehicle could not be parked on our campsite, despite it fitting entirely on our gravel pad without extending into the roadway or affecting neighboring sites. Shortly afterward, the owner approached us regarding another camper's difficulty accessing their site. We were parked completely within the boundaries of our own campsite, yet we were reprimanded and spoken to in a manner that we found unnecessary and unprofessional. One of the most frustrating experiences occurred during quiet hours. Our family was sitting around the campfire having a quiet conversation. There was no music, shouting, or disruptive behavior. In fact, we were speaking so softly that we could barely hear one another. Despite our efforts to be respectful of other campers, we were told to end our conversation and go to bed because it was quiet hours. In our view, quiet hours should mean keeping noise at a reasonable level out of consideration for others, not complete silence. After initially posting a review of our experience on the first night, we chose to continue our stay, comply with the campground's rules, and make the best of the situation. While we disagreed with many of the policies and the level of oversight, we accepted them and moved forward. However, after the owners read my review, I was confronted again around 9:00 p.m. and ultimately asked to leave because I had shared my honest experience online. This only reinforced my concerns about how guest feedback is handled. The final confrontation was particularly uncomfortable. The owner brought up an issue involving hair left on a bathroom sink by my daughter's friend and stated that she had cleaned up after the girls on multiple occasions. What troubled me was how specifically she seemed to know when the girls had used the bathhouse. These were underage girls, and the level of attention being paid to their bathroom and shower usage made our family uncomfortable. While staff certainly have responsibilities for maintaining facilities, the conversation left me questioning how closely guests were being monitored and raised concerns about privacy. When I asked whether the bathhouse was inspected after every guest used it, I was told it was not. That response only added to my discomfort because it suggested particular attention was being paid to my daughter and her friend. As a parent, I found that unsettling. By the end of our stay, the atmosphere had become so uncomfortable that we no longer felt relaxed or welcome. We were genuinely uneasy and did not feel that we could enjoy the remainder of our camping trip. It is especially disappointing because we had positive experiences under the previous ownership and had enjoyed visiting this campground in the past. Based on our experience, we will not be returning and cannot recommend this campground. Families looking for a relaxed, welcoming, and peaceful camping experience may wish to consider other campground options in the Erie area.

It's located directly in Chautauqua Lake. They have cabins with bunk beds and bathrooms, a few large buildings for big gatherings, including a dining hall with a full kitchen. There is also an activities building with a beautiful pool and hot tub. All of my experiences with the staff were exceptional. I have some dietary restrictions and the cook who prepared our meals was extremely accommodating and checked in on me throughout the weekend to make sure I was getting what I needed. The director and all other staff members were extremely kind and accommodating. They seem to run their own camp in the summer months, but also seem to rent out the camp for different events during the off season. My retreat was in March. March in WNY is not always the warmest, and all the accommodations were great. I never felt too cold or anything. Definitely consider camp mission meadows if you have any need for a group destination, overnight or not.

What I love about Mission meadows, besides the beautiful view, the amazing chapel, and the above average camp food, is the mentality behind the camp. I have been a speaker here twice and have two more events booked in the next year. I love to come here because they are not a camp just for church kids. The camp is one of the most diverse camps I have visited, and the permanent and yearly staff love on the kids from ALL walks of life. The staff themselves are great people and I enjoyed getting to know them and working with them the last few years, Having stayed once in the regular cabins, I hate the mattresses, but everything else is nice and comfortable. One of their features is an indoor pool, rock wall, and gym that are available in the winter to rent out for the weekend, day, or afternoon when they are not being used for regular camp activities. If you have a chance, stop by and walk the grounds of the beautiful Mission Meadows.
