(Is that a word?) Well, you know what I mean. This is a little place in the 6th arrodissement. Top 10 according to our table mates next table over. You would never know it if you were just passing by. The waiter, maitre d, everything man, met us at the door to welcome us. BTW, you must make a reservation. We were the first ones there, so we got the best table, by the window. The chef came out and greeted us as the waiter read us the menu. It's different every day. On this night, they had octopus salad, or smoked Veal. For an entree, lamb or fish. For dessert, Carmel something or ice cream with crumbles and a hint of spicy. (None of these are anything like i made it sounds. 100 times better) This may not sound like anything that you think you would not like, but I assure you, you will absolutely love, love, love it. We tried all the different plates, and it was an absolute taste buds explosion of flavors like I've never had. The Smoked Veal was tartar. My wife does not like tartar but she loved this. She doesn't go out of her comfort zone, so this should be an idea about how good this food was. I had the octopus. The sauce is the thing with every meal. It makes the whole dish really great. So mine was excellent for a starter. The fish was a combo of trout and salmon together to make one filet. The sauce, fantastic. As was the dish itself. The lamb was ground down and placed in a thin crust and kinda fried in a pan to perfection. Not like a burrito or gyro. Just very different and full of flavor. Finally, the dessert was some kind of ice cream with a crumble and a very tiny hint of spice. So good. And my dessert was the Carmel mousse with some pesto and a nice sauce. I am not doing any of these dishes, any justice, trying to explain the flavors and tastes. But trust me, if my wife loved all of these, then you will also. Even our table mates said how great everything was and that his wife will not experiment with foods. The place has a great atmosphere, a great vibe, and great music while you dine. The chef comes out at the end to say hello and asks how you enjoyed his presentation. He really cares that you have a great experience and that you enjoyed the food. Service was perfect--just the right amount of leaving us alone to eat our food and being attentive enough to refill our carafe of water. Thankfully, one of our group spoke French fluently so communication wasn't a problem, but our server (whom we suspect was also the chef) was very patient waiting for all of us to understand what was in each dish while we were contemplating our orders. Three of my friends ordered the sausage, apparently a tradition from Lyon. It was a nice, mild sausage served with scalloped potatoes and mushrooms. Two of the others ordered the special of the day, a veal dish also served with the potatoes and mushrooms. (It seems the man who runs the restaurant has a set of sides, all delicious, that he serves with all the dishes. He executed them well, and they went nicely with everything on our plates, so no complaints there!) They both enjoyed their veal, as well. Most of them got the two-course meal special, where it was a main course and dessert for approximately 15 euro. I ordered a three-course, 19 euro menu with the salade lyonnaise (delicious! I'm not usually a big fan of salad, but the dressing was perfectly done--not too overpowering and just the right amount, there was a poached egg, bacon...everything a salad should have, of course), the magret du canard (duck breast) which came out in large slices cooked very pink but perfectly tender (and with the expected scalloped potatoes and mushrooms), and a hazelnut tart of some kind for dessert. Everything was delicious, and for such a great price, too! I certainly recommend making a stop here if you want great food representing what Lyon has to offer!
