I prefer Peacesteiner, but what can you do. This is Germany after all. Deutschland Uber Alles!…read more One of the classic and wonderful German breweries. There are so many. There's a reason why Germany is famous for beer. Because they know their sh*t. They know how to make it and they don't really need to spend too much of their money advertising or marketing it because they just put all their love and heart and expertise into the actual product. I actually like some of the Dutch stuff better but don't tell anybody I said that.

Warsteiner is Germany's largest privately owned brewery, and its most popular beer is Warsteiner Premium Verum. Albert Cramer is company owner and managing director of Warsteiner and has used his company to promote and create a fanbase for competitive hot air ballooning in Germany. The history of Warsteiner beer links all the way back to 1753. Brewing beer in the same location for hundreds of years, Warsteiner brewed through historical times and even world wars. Though breweries in the Rhine were being bombed during World War II, the brewery remained unscathed. In 1999, a rumor appeared in periodicals and articles all around Germany that Albert Cramer and the Warsteiner Company itself were Scientologists. Once Cramer was made aware of the rumor, he quickly denied it and started an unsuccessful publicity campaign to find the starters of the rumors.he brewery today uses the latest in brewing technologies. Advanced bottling and packaging machinery allows brewers to respond to immediate consumer needs and requirements. The newly remodeled brewery can create and package 5,000 bottles per hour. Company owner Albert Cramer created a group called "Logistics of the Future" in 1996 to brainstorm and create new methods of transportation of Warsteiner products. Warsteiner uses containers that can be put on semi-trucks, boats or railcars to send to consumers. The containers can also be used as store rooms where the beer is safe from leaks or other messy problems. To continue to appeal to German young adults and today's trends, Warsteiner has began a beer-mix drink campaign that includes a Premium Cola, which contains caffeine, as well as Premium Lemon and Premium Orange drinks. Furthermore, Warsteiner has created a long-neck beer bottle and a "limited club edition" clear-glass bottle to target clubgoers. Different Warsteiner beers: Warsteiner Premium Verum Premium Verum is Warsteiner's most popular beer. It is exported to over 60 countries around the world. Premium Verum is a pilsener style beer. The beer consists of forest spring water, two-row malted summer barley and all German hops. The alcohol content is 4.8 percent. Warsteiner Premium Dunkel Premium Dunkel is Warsteiner's second most popular beer. Dunkel is a traditional style, dark beer. The Alcohol content is 4.8% Warsteiner Premium Fresh Warsteiner's only non-alcoholic beer, brewed exactly like the Premium Verum and then having the alcohol extracted. The beer contains 80 calories per 12 oz. bottle. Konig Ludwig Weiss- Royal Bavarian Hefeweizen Royal Bavarian is a golden hefeweizen style beer. It is brewed with natural yeast and Bavarian ingredients. Royal Bavarian has an alcohol content of 5.5 percent. All you have to doo is to visit us in Warsstein and taste a beer. This place is a tourist restaurant playing on its building. It is a traditional beer hall in a…read moreconverted indoor public swimming pool. Beer. Traditional salty, fatty German food. Mediocre. Marginal service. You now know all you need to know. If this is what you are looking for, then you are all set. If you are a foodie, then you should stay away (a long way away). I tried three beers - the Sommer brew, a Hella, and a Dunkel. The only good one was the Sommer brew. Obviously not available year round. The other beers were just okay. The other reviewer on Yelp said, "the pig knuckles were HUGE and worth ordering". NOT. At least not in my experience. They were just about burned, and very fatty. Size was big, but my German friends said that the portion I received was actually a little smaller than normal. Whatever. The little bit of lean meat in the knuckle has a strange off taste/smell. I did not eat more than two bites of it. Would definitely not order it again. The cold slaw it came with was edible, but nothing extraordinary. I tried the Abgergräunter Leberkäse mit Spiegelei. This is basically fried spam with an egg on top. Okay - it may not sound that appetizing, but it actually was pretty good. I would have this again. A friend got the Flammkuchen, which looked like a white-cheese pizza with pieces of ham and tomato on it. Think of the very thin Italian crust pizzas you sometimes encounter. This was like that, but with an even thinner crust. And instead of cheese, the white sauce is some sort of dairy product, but not cheese. It was pretty good also. I went with a group, and the waiter was just barely okay. The service was passable, but he insisted on making uncomplimentary remarks about those of us who were non-German to our German colleague. All about stupid tourists. It seems that this person probably should have had a different job, except that I have run into this attitude in Germany before. I tend to ignore it, but it definitely makes the experience unpleasant. In fact, I just changed from a two-star rating to a one-star rating because of the attitude of the waiter. If you are going run a tourist-oriented restaurant, you really should hire staff that are willing to deal with tourists. Although I must say that our group were not tourists - we were a group of business professionals from all over the world - Japan, the U.K., France, the U.S., etc. Oh well - old prejudices die hard, and some never learn the lessons of history. So all in all, I would stay away from this place. I definitely will never go back. Oh - and one more thing. They DO NOT accept credit cards. Only cash and LOCAL debit cards. This seems to be fairly universal in Wuppertal.

Good beer, good food and worth a visit (even ifonly once)…read more Got invited there by some colleagues overseas. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was the wood flooring and the steps taking you to a dining area with raised walls that are about 3-4 ft. deep. My host explained that this was once the town's natatorium (swimming pool) from the early 20th century that got converted to a brewery. There were galleries that overlooked this main level. Supsended from the ceiling were two huge figures in old-fashioned black and white bathing suits wimming. Climbing up to one of the galleries, there were tables against the overlooks and in recessed alcoves. It was definitely a casual place. I ordered the wheat beer while my other colleagues ordered the darker barley beer. Both tasted really nice and smooth. The portions were large--the pig knuckles were HUGE and worth ordering--I would split it and comes with the German equivalent of cole slaw. The pig knuckle was roasted so the skin was extremely crisp and crunchy, not fatty at all. The meat was nicely roasted. The other memorable dishes were the white asparagus and strudel, asparagus with salmon. Re: cost, I don't remember as my overseas colleagues treated us to the dinner. Worth visiting again, when in the vicinity od Dusseldorf or Cologne.
