We arrived late to our beer pool but the owner was kind enough to leave a note on the door for us and showed up 5 min after we called. When I was on vacation in Germany I really enjoyed visiting Kloster Breweries. You feel like you are having a religious experience with a beer buzz. Since I was collecting Beer Steins at the time I purchased two at one Kloster Brewery I visited. I like the feel of the stein and the taste of beer when you drink it out of this stein. I've kept my steins for years and years. I'm recommending when you visit Germany that you tour one (or more) of the monastery or castle breweries. It's an unforgettable experience! Klaus, if I get anything wrong please tell me. I don't want to look too stupid. All I have are my happy memories. Plus I have my souvenirs placed where I can see them all the time!!!

The pews look original and you can find carvings people left in the wood. Many Of the carvings are initials with dates. We found some from 1770. The monastery was build in 1330. We stopped by the gift shop afterwards. They have a great selection of home brewed beers, liquors and other little trinkets. I would highly recommend to visit Kloster Ettal when in the area.

There was soooo much beer on the tour and people kept handing me theirs (I don't know why). Needless to say, I was feeling it by the end of the tour. There was an interesting beer-based shot drink at the end that was good. Again, people kept giving me theirs and the tour guide poured me a second one. Geez! Probably the best of the trip frankly. Don't be put off by the cafeteria style ordering process. You've entered a small bergs eating and watering hole and you won't be disappointed. When ordering or deciding What to order, ask to see the dish or meat first if you're not sure. Least favorite of the stop was the cold potato salad and the 'ok but not lakefront brewery' obatzda. (If you haven't had lakefront brewery's obatzda on your pretzel, you haven't lived). After a day at the castles, take a little longer drive to visit here. Be sure to call in advance for reservations and if it's early, when they say no, tell them you'll be in and out in under 2 hours. Maybe you'll get a seat.

One of the most traditional dishes of this area are Käsknöpfle, which are dumplings made with a combo of local Alpine cheeses, flour/water dough, and fried onions. Of course my friend knew all the good stuff, so we got a local sausage/cheese salad with vinaigrette, a few local cheeses, and we were set. Holy fuck was this good, and I had just eaten not too long ago. The vinaigrette was great with the salad, the local cheeses and the bread! I couldnt stop eating... So in the chance that you happen to be in the Alps bordering Switzerland and Germany in Austria, see if you can find this place. It's well worth it.
