Langmaids is ideal when you just want to buy a magazine or something but don't want to have to queue for 10 minutes in Tescos. The shop itself is clean and presentable and the staff are always polite and friendly. Their prices seem reasonable and i would have no hesitation in recommending this newsagents.

It's a 'not-for-profit organisation' They collect unwanted books from donations etc, if you can find the certain book you want, you pay whatever you wish! Half the proceeds of what you spend is sent to developing countries as well as some relevant literature, and the other half goes to planting trees around Britain. How cool is that?! There are 100's of books in this tiny little gem of a bookshop and loads of different genres. It's worth taking a look, cos you'll probably be surprised what you find.

The people are very friendly, and honest too - they have pointed out to me more than once that a book I was hoping to sell them was worth more than I'd thought! Once I took a carrier bag full of old books expecting to get about £20 but I came away with £200! Mind you, that doesn't happen every day but I happened to have a valuable first edition in the bag on that occasion, and it illustrates the honesty of the owners well. I have bought a lot of books here too and half the fun has been browsing. It's such a marvellous old building and the books are laid out nicely with the wooden shelves clearly labelled, so it's easy to find all the different categories. There are books on most subjects and a good classics and general fiction section - paperbacks as well as hardbacks - something for everyone! There's a pay and display car park immediately opposite.

This time was buy a book and get a second for half price. I bought 4 books. Oh, one of short stories was only 3 pounds! The bookstore has just about every kind of book you could want too. The staff in this branch have always been reasonably nice, and it's generally been a good shopping experience.

This is quite possibly the best book store I've ever been too. It's completely random as to what…read morethey'll have; so not the place to go to look for a specific book i.e. Stephen King etc..but if your just looking for a good read at a great price then this is the place to go. Every time I'm in town I have to stop by. I always find something :) The prices are about a third or even less of the bigger chains, and they have a great selection..particularly of cookbooks but its always random as to what goodies you find!

The guy running it was very enthusiastic and friendly and I wished him lots of luck when I visited. Unfortunately, the rather down market location, the availability of discounted books on the internet and in supermarkets, and the credit crunch - appear to have combined to take their toll on The Story Teller, which has sadly just closed.
