I got invited to a birthday party a for an old friend. This was my first visit to Positano, but certainly not my last. This is an old school Brooklyn establishment, with some old school diners. We ordered Fried Calamari, and Crab Cakes as appetizers. The Calamari was good, and the Crab Cakes were excellent. I ordered a Tagliatelle with Mushrooms as my main. The pasta was cooked properly, and the Mushrooms were tasty. For the birthday celebration were shared a Bread Pudding desert. It was good, not great. Service was spot on, and everybody had a good time. I will return the next time that I'm in Bay Ridge. read more

This restaurant needs to humble itself. I took my mother for Mother's Day dinner. Major false advertising on the $100 pre-fixe menu. It said it was $25 extra for Prime Rib so my mother ordered that but they gave her a cheap, fatty rib eye steak that I could get at Applebees for $15. Apparently, it just means that you're getting a "prime" cut of meat rather than an actual Prime Rib entree. LOL I'm sorry but you have a lot of nerve to upcharge for a very specific dish that you are not actually serving. The menu had Veal, Lamb, and Lobster without an upcharge but this garbage was $25 more? Are you joking? I didn't want to ruin my mother's special day by arguing over this so I let it go but then I saw that they charged 20% gratuity so I was officially done with this place. Don't eat here. read more

This review is long overdue so here I go. Positano is one of my favorite restaurants. The Veal Parmigiana is so soft and delicious. The sauce is too die for. I also love the Pistachio Martini's. So delicious. The ambiance is great, too. For my colleagues retirement party, I held it at Positano's. Val made everything go so smooth for me. He was lovely to deal with. Very nice and amazing to do business with.The tables were set up so perfectly and the waiters were so helpful and professional. Waiter looked ancient. Mostly he stood around smirking and directing the rest of the staff. We got there early for our table and the manager huffed and pouted and finally seated us. The rest of the staff was solid and the food was delicious. I'd give it 4 stars if the waiter retired and the manager took a class or two in customer care. read more

Food (7 out of 10): We will start with describing the best foods that we ordered in this restaurant. We ordered filet mignon carpaccio, crab cakes, baked clams, lobster ravioli, and artichoke. Everything was delicious, but we were not thrilled about the artichoke because it was fried, and dry, lacked succulency, and wasn't very tasty. Baked clams were good and also filet mignon carpaccio! Lobster ravioli was also good, and we loved a french Napoleon, which is a large portion, and was a bit too sweet for me, but the creme was delicious with berries. The Service (3 out of 10): Our waiter didn't smile, lacked humor, and was not very welcoming. I think he just wasn't personable. Didn't say thank you for the generous tip we left. There seemed to be the energy of tension in the restaurant and stress. Ambiance (3 out of 10): The music was too loud and we unfortunately sat by the speaker. When one is trying to enjoy such food, it is best not to play club music. Something slower, and more romantic would have been better on a Saturday night. We brought it up to 2 persons in personnel and they didn't change it. The seats though were comfortable. The bathroom has no tissues, and offered instead a dryer, which had a blue light, which emanated heat which wasn't pleasant. Although we made reservations, we had to wait for a long time to be seated. We were not sure if we would get a table. I didn't get the feeling that we were welcomed, in this restaurant probably because everyone was super busy serving others. The atmosphere was a bit chaotic. Sometimes people crave a calm place with delicious food and a calm classic music, but this wasn't the case, although we spent close to $300. read more

Make a reservation, Positano gets insanely packed, and for good reason. It's excellent. Came for date night and had an aperol spritz (because duh), the tuna tartare, and we shared the veal parm and fioretti pasta. They even served it and plated it separately for us which was a really nice touch. The pasta was...amazing. The bread basket they served is so good too, and really fresh. It comes with a tapenade. We also shared the Nutella lava cake for dessert. Honestly, I love me some chocolate cake but the ice cream it came with was excellent. Great spot. read more

This was my first time coming to the restaurant. Went here for my wife's stepdad's birthday. There is outdoor and indoor seating. We sat inside. The restaurant is not big but a medium size restaurant. The staff and service are good. Our waiter Hugo was great He remembered the special to tell us. Not sure how he remembers so many dinner special. We order Buffalo Al Figo, Trio Calamari, Duxbury East Coast Oyster, Grilled Portobello Mushroom, 50oz Porterhouse Steak, Pasta Alla Nonna, Linguine Alla Vongole, Pappardelle Alla Bolognese, Tiramisu and Peroni beer. The food came pretty fast and it was very tasty. With the steak it comes with three sides. We ordered fried onion rings, Truffle Mac and cheese and sauteed spinach. Those were good. I came here for dinner last night because I am always walking by this restaurant, and i never give it a try. Upon arriving, the place looked nice and was a bit busy. I know for sure this restaurant does get busy around 6 pm. I ordered a lobster bisque soup and the stuffed artichoke as a starter. The bisque was good, in my opinion, creamy and light tasting. The stuffed artichoke arrived and was dressed to impress. But that was about it. It looked nice and all, but it was really just artichoke shells and some bread crumbs and some other ingredients and some liquid. There's not much to really eat from it. I ordered the Colorado lamb chops cooked medium. They were a bit more on the rare side, but I'm fine with that, too. I enjoyed them but I have had better. I got to try the chicken scarpariello my lady ordered. It was a bit different from how I have seen it before. I usually have eaten it boneless style. This one came as a bone in half chicken chopped up. Nonetheless, I liked it. The linguini with clams was ok. For desert, we had the creme brulee. I haven't eaten enough creme brulee to compare here, but this one was good from my experience. Light tasting and slightly sweet. The drinks were strong. Bayridge is full of italian restaurants. Delicious dinner! Valet parking and no wait for a table for our party of 9. Bread with a chilled marinara served while you wait for your dinner. Chicken parmigiana was delicious however it did not come with pasta. It did come with veggies and a fried mashed potato cake which was a surprise. Was looking forward to visiting this restaurant after passing by its packed storefront so many times and reading lauding reviews. At 5pm on a rainy Thursday, only a few tables were busy. By 7pm, the place packed. During weekends and peak dinner hours, definitely make a reservation, as all the seats fill up to capacity. Ambiance is hip and lively. Great date spot. However, it gets LOUD. The space is small, and the acoustics amplify the noise exponentially. All you need is one loud patron and the whole place booms with loud conversation. You'll be straining to converse with your table mates over the loud noise level of the room. Once the restaurant fills up, forget about whispering sweet nothings into your companion's ear--you won't be able to hear your own thoughts, not to mention what someone else is screaming across the table. Have to wholeheartedly agree with other reviewers about service. This was a huge letdown, which detracted tremendously from our experience. Every staff member who interacted with us was forcefully nice. Multiple waiters and busboys were checking in on us every 5 minutes, I kid you not. Instead of genuinely caring, I got the vibe that the staff wanted to put on a show of professionalism and attentiveness, which failed miserably. We got so tired from saying "we're good, don't need anything else, thanks" that I started shaking every time another staff member approached our table. The wait staff circled all the tables like hawks, which created an oppressive feeling. I came to this restaurant to relax, not to feel watched. I felt as if all the wait staff had some kind of mental tick that prevented them from standing still, forcing them to circle the tables NONSTOP, circulating around the floor in a frenzied attempt to anticipate nonexistent patron needs. The tension that arose from the overzealous wait staff made me cringe and wish that we went somewhere else, where we were allowed to enjoy your meal without interruption every 5 minutes. Unprofessional and forced. Never experienced anything like this before. Now to the food. Complementary bread with red bell pepper & eggplant dip was delicious. Ask for seconds, but be careful not to stuff yourself and spoil your appetite. $16 stuffed artichoke was a complete let down. Looked pretty but there was nothing to eat except the broth and a few red bell pepper, olives, and breadcrumbs that were covering the artichoke. The artichoke itself was cut so that not a single piece of the actual vegetable was edible. We took it apart in search of sustenance, but found none. So I pay $16 for a few olives, bell pepper pieces, and bread crumbs? Do not waste your money! $12 lobster bisque was a winner. Good portion to share. Perfectly creamy and delicate. Great flavor. Highly recommend. $36 black linguini pescatore was worth the price. We split the dish, so the waiter divided the portion in two, right in front of us. Nicely done. This was one of the best black linguini pescatores that I've ever tried. Pasta was cooked divinely, with the right amount of chewy. The broth and sauce were superb. Add some black pepper to make it pop. Seafood was plentiful and cooked to perfection--so tender and delicate. Enjoyed this dish to the very last bite. Overall, the food was good, but I would not return due to suffocating service, which made me feel tense and irritated the entire time. Bay Ridge has a ton of better establishments that can use your patronage. read more

Got stromboid fish poisoning last time I was here. I ordered the Branzino. It was served as fillets which I thought a little odd as I'm used to seeing it served as a whole fish. It tasted fine enough. Two hours later I had to go to the ER after breaking out in serious hives and was told it was Stromboid fish poisoning. I don't know if that was due to the fish being kept at unsafe temps at the restaurant or by their fish supplier. But the doctor said it usually doesn't happen with branzino but rather fish like tilapia. Which makes me wonder if they charged for branzino but served a different kind of whitefish. In any event, I'll be avoiding to stay on the safe side. read more

We decided to walk to the restaurant for Date night without a reservation and were able to get an outdoor table with no issue. The food and service were great! We were impressed by the veal and chicken parm dishes that we ordered. They were very authentic, freshly made with breading that was not thick and had a fair amount of cheese on top. The veal was tender and a great portion size. The house marinara sauce for the bread on the table had the right balance of tomato sauce, seasoning and oil. The pan seared crab cakes had a good amount of lump crab meat and very little breading which was a pleasant surprise. Positano is worth a try for authentic Italian food if you're in the neighborhood. I'd go back to try some of the other dishes or seafood in the future. read more

Excellent Italian restaurant in Bay Ridge! I have been wanting to go here and this place did not disappoint! We were seated in their outdoor area that they refer to as "the cabana" and it has overhead heaters over the table. It was warm and toasty! The servers we had were awesome. Moustafa and Penny (I think this is how his name is spelled) took our orders. Everything came out super fresh, and everything smelled amazing! They started us off with cheese bread and a really good dipping sauce (contained various veggies and sauce). We ordered the Polipo (grilled octopus) which is not photographed in this review. The taste was so delicious, with the right amount of char and salt and octopus goodness! It came with a side of green beans and potatoes. We gobbled up the grilled octopus right away. We ordered the Chilean sea bass with butternut squash risotto, and that was cooked to perfection. The sweet miso glaze was delicious and gave the juicy sea bass a sweet flavor. The black linguine pescatore is a seafood lover's dish! It came with mussels, clams, squid, and octopus. These two dishes are amazing! Would definitely love to come back to try other food items on the menu! But the entire experience was definitely made more wonderful by both Moustafa and Penny. We had a yummy feats of lobster linguine, crab cakes, a beer salad , grilled octopus porterhouse steak, Mac n cheese, creamed spinach and zucchini flower. Follows by a yummy bread pudding and napoleon. It was delicious ! The steak was perfectly cooked rare, The crab cakes were lump and not breaded and seasoned well. The beets were juice and the creamed spinach had just the right amount of cream to be smooth but not watery. The standout to me was the lobster Nero linguine. I have been driving past this restaurant for years and based on how busy it always appears to be I figured it must be good. I finally had the opportunity to try it with my family last night for my mother in law's birthday. As expected, it was a lovely restaurant with an abundance of delicious options. We tried two of their specials including the seafood salad (extremely fresh) and the chilean sea bass (absolutely amazing and they should definitely permanently have it on their menu). We also had the yellow fin tuna tartare , Caesar salad, lobster ravioli, and veal parmigiana (all were delicious). The filet mignon was alright. The desserts were impeccable. We had the berry napoleon and the lava cake with vanilla gelato. Cocktails, ambiance, and service were also great. I highly recommend Positano! read more

Tad pricey, but food is always fresh and delicious. Waiters/managers are very attentive and give you plenty of attention and conversation. They dish out their current specials, and always ask how you're doing and make sure to bid you goodbye as you head out. Have had lunch here multiple of times with my best friend, usually a catch up kind of meal. There's ample street parking depending on the time of your visit. I look forward to trying out more of their menu in the future. I recommend checking them out! Real Italian cuisine is hard to come by and this place is one of my fave places to visit every now and again to load up on the comfort of carbs. read more
