I love this place, I was here Monday for Trivia and Karaoke and Sophie was amazing and sweet! I didn't know what beer I wanted so she had me try a few. And she always gives my cat water when he stops by. Yeah, you read that correctly.

Sometimes you just have to leave a bar alone. I don't mean you need to avoid it. I mean some dive bars are not meant to be customized for a more upscale hipster quotient. This one is called Pop's for a reason, and judging from the regulars, it's a dependable watering hole for the local workers who aren't ready to go home. They were pretty much epoxied on their stools for the night. I give Pop credit for having a menu on the wall with standard cocktails identified as Pop's this and Pop's that. I gravitated to the $12 Pop's Sunrise because I was in the mood for a tequila sunrise. Sure enough, that's what it was (photo: https://yelp.to/sM17afdtfo). I might return for Pop's Paloma or Pop's Morning Coffee as long as the regulars can give up a seat for me. As I stood for a bit, I think it would be a 50/50 proposition the next time. DRINKS - 3 stars...a sunrise is a sunrise AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...a dive with character SERVICE - 3 stars...fine when the bartender was around TOTAL - 3 stars...gotta trust a place called Pop's RELATED - Exploring the Mission? Here's my collection of places I've patronized and reviewed: https://bit.ly/2NHtst6

After not stepping foot into a dive bar since COVID, I forgot to keep things very simple (i.e. shots): Sweet Bartender: "Hi!" Me: "Hi, how are you?" Sweet Bartender: "Good, what can I get you?" Me: "Can I get a Vesper please made with whatever top-shelf liquor you have?" Sweet Bartender: "Umm, what is that?" Me: "Gin, vodka, and a splash of lillet blanc." Sweet Bartender: "Equal parts of each (gin and vodka)?" Me: "Sure...and I'll actually take two so you don't have to make another later." (Not trying to be difficult here.) *FIRST SIP* *HAIR RAISES* WHOOOA, this is one ROUGH cocktail but you def get your monies worth and more: https://bit.ly/3plN8b0... Walked over to Tio Chilio's afterwards and polished off a basket of chips & salsa, a bowl of menudo, and a side of quesabirria taco for good measure. Then, a slice of cheese pizza at The Pizza Shop. Ok, also half a white spinach pizza cuz ya girl needs her greens. And, ended the night looking for Anthony...I mean cookies, at Anthony's Cookie's. I'm glad I gave myself a 2 drink max, otherwise, who knows where I would have ended up next...knocking on the ex's door? Anyways, Pop's isn't messin' around when it comes to getting your drank on (though, I'm sticking with shots next time).... How serious are they? They open at 6 AM. Everyday. Nuff said. OTHER NOTES: * Vax card and ID checked when ordering drinks at the bar. * Friendly masked staff. * Jello shots and pouch cocktails to-go available. * Chill vibe with locals. DJ spinning on certain nights; Cuffin Fridays (R&B). * Dog-friendly inside and out. * Four tables in the parklet. No heat lamps so dress warm. * Cc's accepted with $15 minimum.

What a great local gem this place is! Never before have I felt so welcome in San Francisco. This place had a great vibe and a local community feel. We were welcomed by the owner who gave us great information about the area and the history of the bar. I loved their margaritas and how they serve them in bags. They have made some great changes to accommodate covid rules. They are located in the mission district and a close walk to all kinds of amazing street art and murals. My husband and I will be back when we visit the city again.

If you're a 90's kid like myself then you will absolutely LOVE their monthly party here called CUFFIN' ..I believe it's the last Friday of the month! When you can drink and vibe to music from Aaliyah, Toni Braxton, Mobb Deep, and all your hip hop/r&b faves....you have a party for me!

There is a photo booth ($3 for 4 pictures/black and white/on the darker side) that has captured many of my drunken nights.

I finally made a comeback over this last weekend when I went with a group of friends after dinner nearby at China Live. I saw a whole new side to the bar. Previously, I didn't realize that they have a basement section, which in my opinion is worth checking out and way better than staying on the first floor. My group headed downstairs as soon as we entered and lined up to buy drinks. I ordered one of their infamous mai tai's, the same drink that pushed me over the edge a couple years ago. It was just as sweet as I remembered, but since I'd just eaten, I didn't feel jittery or like it was too much at all. There's just something about being served a cold cocktail in a paper cup. I have no complaints. It was filled to the brim with the frothy drink. I hope using disposable cups makes the staff's cleanup faster and easier. I'm really glad i visited this familiar yet transformed haunt with a different group of friends in a new year. It was so good to be back.

Known for their "patented" chinese Mai Tai, it's a go to drink to try while hanging out in this hideaway lounge in the heart of Chinatown. It can get a bit crowded, but it's a great place to lay low and take in the vibe. Mai Tai is a tad pricey but it's a deal if your not there often, or be it a one time experience. No frills, expect no updated modern chic vibe, its a bar in Chinatown.
