Vera is one of the better places in Groningen. They have various events and live concerts of all…read moremusic genres. it's also a good place to party. make sure to check the event calendar first. you pay one euro entrance and you can get in for free all month ( if you don't lose the card). if you want to escape the typical dutch greaseball haircut with popped collars you this is the place for you. there is one huge party area with a stage for DJs or bands and a basement bar. The people are more alternative than in your typical bar in groningen and the students tend to be from higher semesters.

The building itself is really pretty, the theater hall itself is really beautifully decorated, especially the vividly painted ceiling with chandelier. I came here to play a touring ballet show and although I was expecting it to be a nice experience, the workers at the Stadsschouwburg made it even nicer by just being so helpful and sweet about everything. I had a great time playing here, and I'm sure you would have a great time being in the audience - so check out their schedule!

First time visit to Vlieland with a weekend Here Comes The Summer. Boat to the island departs few…read moretimes a day from the harbour of Harlingen. Had a great time there ! Rented a bike to see the island and guess four days were just too short. Beautiful nature, beaches, birds and "the wadden" with its ever changing colors depending on the tide and weather. The festival, bands, performers and lots of nice people there. Great atmosphere and in between breaks of bands time to go for a walk along the beach or have a drink or two. Sitting in the upper deck of the boat we enjoyed the 1 1/2 hour ride back to Harlingen thinking about our next visit there. A must see again ! Bye bye beautifull little island. Hope to be back soon !!

The stories I've heard about this place did not exceed my expectation, been a total waste of my…read moretime and money. Upon arriving, you'll be greeted with the disgusting smell of second hand smoke. The place is very small and overcrowded, bar staff are rude (glass picker is pushing people aside instead of asking if he could pass, the bartenders seems to be only helpful towards locals than strangers inside, (sample: I was waiting for 15min and nobody came over to take my orders, but noticed that when locals arrived they jumped up and served them asap. Luckily a nice lady sitting next to me called the bartender by name and finally my orders were taken. The elderly locals are gathered at the bar (sitting) and are blocking customers who wants to order, when kindly asking if they could make some room they have given me the ugliest face I've ever seen. (typically for small communities). Prices are high comparing to other surrounding pubs. Price per unit is EUR 2.00 for a half glass of beer, the other half is beer foam. The bar attracts young and old but the music too outdated and very loud that it is impossible to start a conversation with anybody inside. The place has an own smoking area but nobdy is using it and ashtrays are located everywhere. I am unable to give this place a higher number than 2 and cannot recommend this to anyone who wish to go out and enjoy a nice evening out. Except if your age is between 18 - 25 then this place is for you.

I'm a fan of this dance school - more than "just" Salsa…read more I'm a university student in Groningen and this week I am starting with my 5th salsa dance course at this dance school. The atmosphere here is great and also a little familiar, the dance teachers always have a smile for you and a flair of Cuba is in the air. This dance school is particular recommenable because it offers more than "just" learning different dances ( Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Son, Reggeaton, Latin-Jazz,...), the cuban flair and the good atmosphere are simply contagious. Moreover, you do not have to register as a couple. If one has no partner ready, the team of the dance school is organizing the necessary number (of men) for the respective courses. This way men of other courses at other times can have extra practice without paying more and all women will have a male dance partner, who does not necessarily always have to be the same. Thus, it becomes natural to dance with different people right from the beginning. This flexible concept works very good, as far as I can judge it. Furthermore, next to the dance lessons there is also a weekly free dance event - at this evening everyone can go there in order to test what they have learned or to just spend a nice time, watch others dance, enjoy the music and drink a cocktail. Course prices are reasonable and comparable with other dance schools in Groningen and there is a student discount. The main language that is spoken is Dutch, however, everyone is always ready to translate into English. Furthermore, the participants are usually very diverse and from many different countries of origin so that other languages ​​can be heard as well, which always enhances my feeling of holiday and a time out from everyday life. Two things could be improved. First, the air conditioning of the dance rooms - each room is equipped with several large fans, but it still gets very warm while dancing. Moreover, one can only pay with cash at the bar. - Therefore, only 4 out of 5 stars Nevertheless, I can highly recommend this dance school and the Salsa Juan Carlos team.
