When your pet is sick in the weekend, who you gonna call?…read more This is one of the two animal hospitals in Copenhagen that has opening hours in the weekend for emergency cases when other animal clinics are closed. One of my cockatiels Chris got sick last Saturday, he was suddenly lethargic and released weird color excrement and started to vomit as well. As a long-term bird owner, I know that birds are extremely good in hiding their disease. Once they're showing it, usually it's almost always too late. That's why I got panicky last Saturday when Chris looked very ill, I called the hospital telling that we were on our way, got a cab and went there. I was aware that the on-duty vet was not an avian specialist (it sucks sometimes when you have a parrot, because most animal clinics are only for dogs and cats - this is why I go to Kongelundens Dyreklinik usually) but he was a vet nonetheless. It was Saturday evening at 6pm-ish and there was no waiting apart from a patient before me (I heard the waiting time at the Animal University Hospital in Frederiksberg is hellish) although we had to wait for around half an hour, it was not that bad. The vet - Martin Bøje - was checking Chris gently and he weighed him in. He said that he thought Chris was a healthy bird physically but he got enteritis, and that he was glad that I brought him in relatively early so it could be treated with antibiotics. He gave him a shot and packed some antibiotics for me to give him at home for the next 3 days. All in all it was very quick yet I felt it was also thorough (although I usually asked for poop analysis at the usual clinics). More waiting time after was probably because of administration business, when the vet students had to pack the antibiotics and showed me how to give him the medicine. I'm no novice when it comes to birds, but it's nice that they are also very thorough in showing pet owners what to do. It's obviously always more expensive to go to this emergency vet in the weekend than the usual animal clinics, but it's totally worth it. After all, you can always get more money but nothing can replace your pet, right? Update: my Chris is getting better now, the medicine and treatment helps so that's a plus from me. This could be a five-star review but I only took one because they didn't have any avian vet on duty.

True to their word, I got the discount at the register; with a smile, no less! There was also a friendly dog (on a leash) in the store and the ladies behind the register were cooing over it. I will definitely be by again to do my shopping, especially since they carry the poorly-named Dogman brand treats for cats that I can't seem to find anywhere else.
