CREDIT CARD SCAM! USE CASH AT THIS STORE!!! This store is definitely running some sort of credit card scam! I've inserted my Amex in the pinpad without knowing that they don't accept Amex and later on used my Visa to checkout all the groceries. It was my first time getting groceries from this store and later that day I've got fraud alert with two different extra charges rather than the grocery I bought on both of my cards. It's a similar kinda transaction from some sort of "Spirit Air Visa" and "Spirit Airline Direct Sales" and both were around $70 bucks. Needless to say I've had to change both of those cards and now I'm stranded for a week or so without my two streamline credit cards. read more

This is probably the cleanest and best Desi grocery store I have been to (and I grew up in the Bay Area!) We came in on a Saturday early afternoon-usually a time when I avoid the Indian grocery store due to massive crowds, but it was pretty quiet and there weren't any long lines. The store itself is SO organized! Their snack aisle is amazing--you can pretty much find every brand of biscuit/chivda/sev/etc there. We stocked up on enough snacks to get us through a few more weeks of quarantine. Onto their refrigerated/frozen section. They have a HUGE selection of kulfi/ice cream, frozen meals/breads, every size possible of desi style yogurt, including Amul Products, and classic Indian ice cream treats like Butterscotch. Their produce section is also really extensive, we saw some Desi-specific veg like mini eggplants and plantains in addition to your standard produce that you'd find at your local western grocery store. Also--they have a million different brands of rice, oil, and spices. I loved that for every spice, they carried 3-4 different sized pouches, so you don't have to commit to buying huge bag of coriander seeds or cardamom that will eventually go to waste. On the other hand, if (unlike me) you're cooking Indian food everyday for a family, you can get yourself a HUGE bag of whatever it is you go through quickly. read more

I used to go to the old Pooja just down the street. Like a couple times a month. I don't cook as often and not for as many people due to my first son heading to college. For my mom's 70th Birthday last month (B4 the quarantine) I sponsored lunch at our temple on her behalf. So four close friends and family helped me cook for 250 people. Pooja had just about everything we needed. They usually have very good selections of spices and fresh specialty vegetables at good prices. read more

According to all my Indian friends, this is where they all shop too, so I guess it's one of the best Indian groceries in town. I don't cook and even if I do, I can't eat what I cook. One of the first things I asked my fellow Indians in the TC area is about an Indian grocery store. Found out Pooja is the closest to home. I went there on a Saturday afternoon to buy some frozen curries and snacks which would be my food for a couple of weeks. The store is pretty big and is located inside a strip mall. Ample parking and there is a Indian fast food place next door (Jalsa) which serves Indian chat items like pav bhaji, chole batura etc. The store has pretty much everything an Indian needs to survive in the US away from home. The prices aren't that high and the products were fresh with lot of time for expiration. So, now I have food in my freezer and snacks in my office cabinet and I am good to go for a while. PS: I was told that Trader Joe's sells limited Indian groceries too. read more

This store is quite a bit out of our way, but the quality and availability of items essential in Indian cooking make the trip worthwhile. Their vegetables are quite a bit better than their competitors nearby. There's always a steady stream of people on the weekends & it looks like they're trying to add on an eatery to the place in the near future. (Just make sure you don't park in the 15 minute spots that are directly in front of the store, if you plan on being there longer. I am not sure how diligently they tow!) read more

Yup, it's probably the Indian grocery store with the best stock and prices in town. Someone told me the reason for their low prices is that they're a distributor. I should have asked what that means because Patel and Namaste both say they get their stock from Chicago. Anyway, I digress. They have the usual suspects - from frozen vegetables to frozen meals and fast foods. Fresh vegetables that are typically used in Indian cooking as well as odd surprises like avocados and sugar cane. The fresh vegetable section is pretty messy and it can be hard to move with everyone standing trying to shop with their carts in the narrow aisle. Spices and lentils and grains are better priced here than the other Indian grocery stores. In addition, they have a large selection of biscuits, snacks, namkeens. They also have namkeens in bulk in large wood barrels - the bikaneri bhujiya is the only kind I tried and wasn't inspired go back for anything else. A large selection of Indian mithai is sure to excite those with a sweet tooth. One notable exception is fish and meat - they don't carry any. Patel/Little India is the go to for these items. It would be great to see the store cleaner and more organized. read more

This is a great south Asian grocery store, and a real gem in the Twin Cities. I frequently commute between Chicago and Minneapolis, and until I found Pooja Grocers I was despairing ever finding a place like this. Pooja has everything one needs if you enjoy Indo-Pak food, from spices, to produce, to pickles and chutney, to sacks of rice, and affordable yet exotic frozen foods. The fresh made chipati sold in Zip-Loc bags are sometimes still warm, and always fresh. Even though the little suburb Hilltop has a sketchy reputation, it's really nice to go there for so much good Asian food shopping. I can't wait to check out the other stores in this shopping center as well. read more

I had a guy I was seeing make traditional Indian lentil soup, and now I am hooked. We had basmati rice with ghee and pickles and all week long I craved the rice. (I still do). It was my first time ever in an Indian grocery store, so finding things were a bit tricky. Within a few minutes, I found everything I was looking for and was on my way to trying to re-create that rice. I have been back twice in search of other ingredients for recipes I found. Be warned that if you are sensitive to scents, you may want to keep clear as there is a strong presence of incense and/or perfumes. Big fan of this place! While it is somewhat disorganized it is well stocked and the prices are just lovely. Hige bag of cumin for $2.29? Lovely. Mustard seeds for $3.99? Woot! (co-op be damned). I spent 20 minutes there stocking up on all things I needed to cook Indian dishes thanks to a friend and came away with $40 worth of ages of back stock. Careful when you come here. I had 2 last times trouble about this store. They try to steal more money from you by calculate wrong, over the payment when you pay at cashier check. Check the receipt again if you don't want lost money for something you don't buy and the price again. I never come back this store, all cashiers are liars read more

I bought a bag of Basmati rice there. When I got home my car was filled with rice, and a found hole the bag that had been made by a rat or mouse. They have open bins of bulk snacks that have probably been visted by some wermin too. Yuck! read more
