A great annual community festival in the middle of our little town, the first weekend in June, at Pierson park.
Running every year since 1968, the festivities start with a parade down the middle of town. CHP and our county sheriffs literally block off downtown to through traffic for about an hour and a half to two hours for our little parade. The participants throw out candy, playing cards, t shirts, popsicles and others items to the crowd as they pass by. Fire trucks, horses, tractors, clowns, kids, classic cars, and community club floats are all in the parade. As the parade ends the festival begins. Now way back in the day, they actually had pony express rider races - but times change.
Today, several local flavors converge early on the park, local artisan and crafter booths, several local non-profit organizations act as food vendors donating their proceeds or a portion of to local youth charities - this year many were donating their proceeds to the new community youth center addition which was opened for the festival and built by local donations.
Live music throughout the afternoon, a relaxed casual environment, good food vendors, local brewery tap trucks, a petting zoo for the little kids, a bounce house/slide, a couple bake and rummage sales, all going to help fund community projects.
Our little town on the north coast, far behind the redwood curtain... community coming together once a year for decades - celebrating the return of summer and life in our little coastal town.
4 Stars - a fun way to spend a day and support our community.
