Les Ferreres Aqueduct or Pont del Diable Bridge is really just a fragment of a much larger water conduit that brought water to city Tarragona from Francoli river 15 km far built in 1st century AD. It is 217 m long, 27 m high (in the middle at the highest point) and 2 m wide. The top portion has 25 arches, bottom 11 and each arch has almost 6 m span. It was built by Romans but what was really impressive was that it was used for 18 centuries and it still stands today. What a beautiful sight. We were completely smitten by Tarragona in general. Just a 10 min walk from the free parking lot, Pont del Diable emerges in all its glory. Really can't imagine how much better could have looked when it was built. If you spend another 5 min climbing on the hill you can reach the top. We walked over the aqueduct to the other side-it was a very special experience, that we will remember forever. read more
