He instantly becomes your friend and captures your most special and intimate wedding moments with such grace and such ease. His work is the best I've seen in the industry, and we honestly feel so lucky to have met him and been able to work with him - both for our engagement shoot in White Sands National Park, and for our Hindu wedding outside of Santa Fe, NM. From a professional standpoint, he provides clear and comfortable art direction when needed to give you your dream shot. When he's taking candids, he's blending in, even dancing on the dance floor with your guests, and still capturing gorgeous shots from a first-person perspective. On a personal note, we really just loved David's company. He went out of his way to spend days on site with us and get to know our friends and families. Our wedding guests would not stop commenting about how much they loved David and what a good soul he is. He deserves every bit of praise and we really can't wait for another opportunity to work with him again!

Valerie rocks!…read more I've been lucky enough to work with Valerie on several projects over the years including retail catalogs, cookbook photography and personal head shots for my business and websites. Her versatility and quality throughout is commendable. Plus, she's tons of fun to collaborate with. I've since moved 1200 miles away from New Mexico, but continue to fly in every year or so to update my personal head shots. With her talent, it's so worth it! When you have special photography needs, give her a try ... you won't regret it.

I signed up for the Introductory Photography Workshop through Groupon. I am a novice and just have…read morea point and shoot digital camera, but wanted to know something about how to use my camera and some pointers on how to take better pictures. I asked in advance of buying the Groupon if my camera was OK for the workshop and was told it was so I purchased it. I felt very out of place because everyone seemed more advanced and had more advanced cameras, but that was no fault of hers so that was fine. Prior to the workshop I talked to her on the phone several times trying to find a day I could do it because it wasn't going to be every Saturday like it was supposed to be. She was also supposed to email a link for a video. Usually if someone tells you they are emailing you something you expect it within a couple days unless they say otherwise. A week or so had passed and I told her I hadn't gotten it. She said 'Oh, I haven't sent it to you yet.' I reminded her in more than one call what kind of camera I had, that I really didn't know much, etc. She seemed kind of unorganized and never remembered what kind of camera I had. The workshop was supposed to start at 12:00. She got a call a little after 12:00 and said it was probably a lost student, and it was her last student saying he wouldn't make it. She didn't turn her phone off, so every time she got a call she looked to see who was calling DURING her presentation, and some calls she even took which I thought was very unprofessional. I also thought the presentation was unorganized and not as 'introductory' as I hoped. The first 2 hours were supposed to be presentation and the next 2 hours photographing somewhere. Just before 2:30 we broke, but she said she would have to take a 15 minute break to eat something which she SHOULD have done before 12:00 and not during the 4 hours we were paying for. So she said we would meet at the Hispanic Cultural Center about 15 minutes away from her house - 15 minutes that she could be eating while driving if she really had to eat. We all went down there and waited. And waited. She showed up at 3:15 - 50 minutes after we broke. I thought we would photograph different things and all we did was photograph a little trough of water with water spouts and grass. It was fine to photograph the movement of water, but that was the only thing we filmed - no flowers, no architecture - nothing else. She also told me she didn't know I had that kind of camera. She may be a good photographer, but I don't think she is a good teacher and I would definitely not recommend someone taking one of her workshops, especially if they are a novice or have a point and shoot digital camera. I think most Groupons are great deals, but this 4 hour waste of time for $69 was a huge disappointment and absolutely not worth the money.

The good, the bad, and the review…read more.. We used Kevin's for our wedding in September of 2014. They are fairly expensive, but we wanted to splurge on pictures because we felt they were very important. We got a lot of great pictures, don't get me wrong. However, we got zero close up face photos and zero pictures of our hands with our rings. Overall, the pictures that were taken were great, and a few were very exceptional at the Botanic Gardens. I did have to tell the photographer, (not Kevin) that we were "for sure" doing photos from across the water (this is the reason we chose Kevin's in the first place) even though he disagreed with me about it at first after our ceremony and during our couple shoot. I'm so glad we did because these turned out to be our favorite pictures of the day. Maybe he traded any close up pictures for across the water pictures in his mind time wise? He could have been stressed about time since we were running behind schedule. I will definitely take the blame for that one, though I'm sure most weddings run slightly behind schedule. I am disappointed that I don't have close up face pictures of me and my hubby on our special day. Also, I'll I don't have a traditional picture of our hands together with rings. I was hoping for some more artistic touches and special, quiet, romantic, serious moments. There were no plays on black and white with one color in the editing or anything like that. However, the across the water pictures are absolutely EXCEPTIONAL. I have mixed emotions about this review. Both exceptional photos, yet some missed moments also. I'm sure it's nearly impossible to remember everything in a limited amount of time. A HUGE plus is that the photographer was very kind, fun and made our bridal party and family feel relaxed... Especially during the reception. As a tip for any wedding photographer, I would definitely write down the EXACT photos you want in advance so you aren't left without something that's important to you. It's something you won't think of on your special day and you rely on the photographer to call most of the shots. There is stress on the photographer as well, so some things can just be forgotten. We didn't get to meet with our specific photographer to discuss what photos we really wanted before our wedding day. I did chat with him over the phone, but I should have been more proactive about meeting with him in person. Overall, some very exceptional photos and a good experience.

Once we got the proofs back, we knew this is who we would hire for our wedding. What I really love about Kevin is how daring and creative he is. Being that this visit was only my second to a professional portrait studio, and the first family…read moreshoot ever, AND I get to be the first to review this particular spot, I'm having at it. On a first date, it really helps to make a great first impression. Unfortunately, Sears really screwed that up. We sat in the waiting room for 27 minutes, which totally killed the mood, especially since we busted our collective tails to show up on time. The photo shoot was tough. We had an exceptionally dodgy two year-old who didn't want to sit still, nor smile, so we arranged for several poses which didn't work out. Our photographer told us she could help calm the kid, but in actuality she didn't know any techniques for this, nor did Sears provide any materials which could've distracted her from being a terrorist. That said, the photographer earnestly attempted to help the situation and in the end we had exactly what we wanted: one fabulous holiday photo. We didn't feel too much pressure concerning up-sells (though they did try), and the price was definitely fair since it was a Groupon. In the end we enjoyed our dynamic with the photographer and that goes a long, long way. My advice: Don't go to these places. There are so many hard working, talented and underexposed semi-professionals out there who are anxious to make a name for their businesses, just Yelp it or look to Craigslist. These people can capture our lives in ways a boring studio never could, and at a fraction of the cost. Bonus: you're keeping your dollars Local. Sweet.
