Based on reviews, we thought we would give this place a try. We had just driven in from Dresden,…read moreand it was about 8pm on a Monday night. Parking was definitely a challenge, even at this point in the day, but we found a spot around the corner by the museum which had closed. The inside part of the restaurant was nearly empty (I didn't look but I assume most were out back in the garden area) but we chose to sit up front in the main window to people watch. They do have menu's in English which was nice. We all ordered burgers, but my daughter and I asked for no condiments of any kind. We were very explicit about just meat and bread. From the inside you can see into the kitchen, and you can see that it is small and there are only 1, sometimes 2, people cooking so it wasn't a surprise when it took a while for the food to come. When it did come, the first look was impressive - nice sized burger on a ciabatta like bun, and nice crispy fries. Lifted the bun up to find what looked like mayo on our burgers, so we called the server back and pointed out that we asked for no condiments. We expected them to take them back, switch out the buns and bring them back, but they started the whole meal from scratch again. So one ate while the rest waited, and he was done by the time our food came out. So that was awkward and kind of put a damper on our evening. I'll give them a point for good fries, but even though the food was decent the experience kind of let us down.

Endless coffee and Amaiiiiiizing fries!…read more This used to be one of the places where you'd go and say "gosh, remember when the burgers were sooo big and the fries so much you could never finish them?" - well, after a long "dry spell", the 50's Diner is almost back to its original glory. The burgers are pretty decent, even the veggie burger (with pineapple) is really delicious. As a side you can chose between normal fries, AMAIZING fries (made with with corn = mais), Curley Fries and Wedges. Try those AMAIZING fries, they are so tasty! The burgers are also served with coleslaw (the way it should be). This diner might not compare to actual burger shacks, but they simply offer more variety, you can always be sure to find something that you'll like. The rest of the food is also fantastic, they even offer Mexican food, but I usually always stick with the burgers or the breakfast. Speaking of which, there is a huge variety of breakfast meals to chose from, and the best part is that you can order it at all times throughout the day, even if you're craving omelette at 7pm at night! The location itself is what every wannabe diner looks like nowadays, full of US licence plates, metal signs, bits and pieces of US cars, and huge figures of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and James Dean...sadly nothing special anymore, but it's nice nevertheless! The best part, and definitely most important for the true diner spirit: endless coffee! They simply keep it coming, most of the time you don't even need to ask for a refill. This is my kinda heaven! Bottom line: * Decent food (esp. burgers) * Breakfast all day (and night) * Endless coffee refills * Lots of (wannabe?) "American" atmosphere

All I can say about this place is WOW. Found out about this place when I was stationed in Vilseck…read moreand always loved coming here before I caught a train into the Nürnberg station. The prices are great and honestly, where else are you going to find good soul food in Germany anyway? The only downside is the wait, but as the owner will tell you that this type of food takes time. If you have the time then stay and sit down to enjoy your food, but if you're in a rush (i.e. a Soldier on lunch) then order ahead and take it to go. Grab some Kool Aid to wash it all down!

I recently met a SGT in Vilseck who suggested me and my friends try his uncles Soul Food…read morerestaurant. Me being a guy from the South (Atlanta, Ga), I was all for it. The restaurant is literally walking distance from Vilseck Train Station (5 mins.) & about 15 mins from Post. Be prepared for a long wait regardless of the amount of people who are there because the owner, Angelo, is also the cook. There's also one waiter but due to the hours that the restaurant is open (usually 6-11pm) it's never really busy(At least not the 3-4 times I've been). On this particular visit it was a Sunday evening. I ordered fried chicken, french fries and macaroni & chesee. Odd combination, but it was what I was craving at that particular time. With it being 4 of us as well as a table who ordered before us our wait was about an hr. Not good if you're extremely hungry or have little to no patience. After waiting our food was eventually brought out. Everyone's food was hot and fresh which makes the wait worth it. The moment we had been waiting for, after one bite there was complete silence. No one had any complaints. The chicken was cooked just right and it made you feel back home in your mother's kitchen. Everything was seasoned with love. Even the fries. From the food to the drink, everything (IMO) was phenomenal. With a little hot sauce the meal was complete and finished to the point of full. The wait was worth it but like I said if you're very hungry you might not have that patience. I recommend to anyone who loves soul food or food period. Angelos never disappoints as long as you're willing to wait.
