Last time I ordered a wrap and wanted a side salad instead of French fries and they charged me an extra $7, taking $3 off a full price garden salad... The menu indicates a side salad is an option for subbing but mentions nothing about a fee. I've been going to the Pompton Queen Diner for over 30 years and was never disappointed until Sunday, December 16th. I ordered the Salmon dinner with mashed potatoes. I took most of my dinner home and started to eat my left over dinner tonight 12/20/23 and in the mashed potatoes was two chunks of breaded chicken breast with spinach mixed in. The only thing that can explain this is, The Pompton Queen is reusing food from other plates being discarded. I am so disappointed, I know that practice has been done at other places and maybe I was being naive to think The Pompton Queen Diner was above that with their reputation, but I guess I was wrong. With Covid still a threat to other's well-being, it's not something I can just let slide. I went to the Queen for the first time in a long time. I used to go pre-Covid at least once a week. I am never going again. The diner was at 100% capacity. As a former Jersey girl I'd say that this is a pretty solid diner. Granted Im normally a corned beef hash gal, but was craving a gyro while visiting a friend. She said the owners were from Cypress so I figured a gyro was a safe bet. The gyro was good. (Although no match to my go-to-spot back home) But I got completely gypped on the Tzaziki. There was literally only a teaspoons worth in my first bite. Additionally, the first rule of to-go fries is to pack them separately. Basically everything is good at this diner. Lately every time we go the place is packed. I must say inflation and labor shortages have not affected this location. Plenty of staff and prices are reasonable. Burgers you cant go wrong here. But I always get the roasted turkey dinner. Comes with turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn and cranberry sauce. I wouldn't say this is the best diner, but it certainly does the job. Where this diner excels is the corned beef hash - WOW. Best corned beef hash I've ever eaten. So soft and super flavorful, I kept going back for more and more. You get a lot of it for the price as well. Their chocolate chip pancakes are also really good. They're very fluffy and there's a perfect amount of chocolate chips. Eggs, bacon and toast are all pretty standard for a diner, nothing extraordinary. Service here could definitely be better. Our waiter was extremely impatient and looked annoyed the entire time we were ordering. Once we ordered, he left and as he was walking by our table, one of my friends asked to have something changed in his order. The waiter just said "I can't change it, I just put it in." Just had another complete successful Bash at my home with Pompton Queen Diner catering it. The job was OUTSTANDING to say the least. From Tommy too Mark and Adam food was awesome. From when I ordered with Tommy, to the pickup everything was flawless. Tom, you and your Cuz run one of the best Diners on the east coast. Your dedication to your customers is unbelievable. Truly a great place to eat and enjoy, catering GREAT. One more thing I must add, There love for our great Military and our Country is something very special to them. Lived in Pequannock for 25 years and have enjoyed the Pompton Queen many times for breakfast lunch and dinner. Menu is huge and the food is consistently good,wait staff always friendly and knowledgeable . Went today with my grand daughter for breakfast and we were very disappointed that although the pancakes were amazing the syrup was not real maple syrup. I would pay extra for authentic maple syrup. plus my granddaughter is allergic to dairy and was told they do not carry dairy free milk for her coffee. I have always loved coming to this place. The food is wonderful. After two experiences my family had, I will never go back. My brother had a food allergy and the waitress was angry about him having to order something special. She told him to just find something else on the menu. My aunt is on a restricted diet and cannot eat what everyone else can. They did not allow her to bring in her own food, even though everyone else was ordering something off the menu. My son had an unexpected day off this past Friday so he joined my Dad and me on our customary Friday adventure. After some good hiking and birding, we went off in search of a new diner. Proceeding south on 23, we spied the Pompton Queen. It looked very busy but we managed to find a space. We had to wait ten minutes for a table. No worries. Gave us time to watch a steady stream of yummy food being brought out of the kitchen and an even steadier stream of customers pouring in the place. Chicken fingers and waffle fries for my son. Corned beef hash and scrambled eggs for me and a Brooklyn Omelette(lox, onion and capers) for my Dad. My son raved about his chicken and fries. My Dad loved his omelette and my hash actually seemed home made rather than the pasty, canned stuff you get at most diners. Only the home fries were a disappointment. We asked for them well done but they came out quite the opposite with very little taste. Oh well. The rest of our meals were terrific. As is customary, I brought home a to go order for my wife. Beet salad with crab cakes. Although the crab cakes contained too much "cake", my wife loved everything else about the salad and was very pleased. Great service here. Our server was very professional. Wish I caught her name. She's probably been working there for years or at diners in general. Just superb. Wow, does this place get BUSY! My boyfriend and I came here after coming back from Morristown. When we walked through the doors, the waiting area was filled with people. When we got to the front to say our names, they asked if we would like to sit in the dining area or counter top which he had mentioned would be faster. So I said, "Sure! Let's do counter top!" We were immediately seated! No long wait. Thank goodness, haha. The waitress at the counter top was quick to get our drink order which was wonderful. It took my boyfriend and I a while to look at the menu as all the food on the menu sounded so good. I decided to go with the chicken pot pie as it is one of my favorite dishes but my first time trying it here. The chicken pot pie wasn't too bad. The chicken inside were large bite cuts and was a little dry even with the broth. The pie crust on top looked perfectly golden brown, but when I ate it, it didn't seem to have a lot of flavor that I was expecting from the crust of a chicken pot pie. However, the portion of the chicken pot pie was a good amount for me and took me quite a while to eat! Overall, the service was great and the food is not too bad.
