Pomaire is one of the most touristy destination close to Santiago de Chile, but in my humble opinion, as a foreigner, there isn't so much to see and do, and it's not even pleasant sometimes. Why?
- As soon as you arrive there, you are almost assaulted by people who want to lure you into their restaurant.
- It is usually very hot in Summer (December to March)
- Once you have seen one of the shop where they make the ceramics, you have seen them all. This is well-produced but very basic ceramics and clay artefacts. If you want to see really interesting pieces, go to the north of Chile, Peru and Bolivia, where you will find decorated pottery that looks like the old pottery from the Incas and other Precolombian civilizations. In Pomaire, you will find none of that
What makes it still pleasant?
- This is a cute village
- The gastronomic offer is interesting, with traditional Chilean food, including giant empanadas.
To sum it up, if I had just a couple of days to spend around Santiago, I would probably skip Pomaire and choose other destinations.
