Given that the price is higher for beef options I expected to have decent amount of beef and instead I found myself eating more fries and onions and tomatoes than anything. We were on our way to Zion and decided to stop by pollo mania for dinner. We ordered a whole chicken with coleslaw, fries and chicken soup. The meal came with tortillas and mania sauce. I was surprised by how moist the chicken was. I shredded my chicken and made myself a taco and slabbed coleslaw on top. It was delightful. Summary: - Great chicken with good quantity - Beef hearts is a must try - Fast and straightforward service Detailed: There are two main places that I would pigeon to if I ever need a rotisserie chicken fix - Costco (its just hard to beat a $5 juicy and well made whole chicken off their 'assembly' line) and Pollo Mania - as good as it gets around here. The initial thought running through my mind when I visited this place was..."Why in the world do they have a chicken place RIGHT beside Pollo Loco with such a similar name?" The next thought that soon entered my mind is..."How could such a small place compete with such a franchise?" The simple answer lies in the quality and taste in their food. Glancing across to Pollo Loco, I saw an empty establishment. I looked into Pollo Mania, a line and most tables with patrons enjoying their meal. My coworker and I ordered a half chicken combo (I went with double rice this time...oh man, do they do their rice well) as well as the (can't remember how to spell it) grilled beef heart plate. Right, we know that the chicken better be that good in order to compete against another chicken place beside it. Well, it IS flavorful, tender, juicy, and perfect with... WTF? ROFLOLCAKES. This orange looking sauce is freaking *SIMILAR* (if not the same) to one of the three types of Hainan Chicken Rice HOT SAUCE! Wahahahaha, they have SALSA and Hainan Chicken Rice sauce? I'm definitely a FAN of this joint now. Who would have had thought rotisserie chicken went so well with this particularly amazing sauce? Must be the Asian lady that speaks fluent Spanish. Cool stuff. :) Beef heart. This came as a surprise. I'm not new to eating animal organs and the different ways they are prepared. What I'm surprised about is how TENDER it still is after grilled when its a very, very, very, very LEAN meat? It was a WOW moment for me and definitely something I would love to have more of! NOTE: If you hate to use your hands to eat like me, note that they will only provide one plastic fork - no spoons or knives. First time in a long time I had to use my hands to eat since I usually buy meals to go where I have utensils always at the ready. It wouldn't have been so bad but I was unlucky enough to have finished a meal with some random SOB who was in the restroom for over 20 minutes straight. I love the their chicken combos (various portions of chicken with 2 sides = rice, hardy fries, beans, side salad or etc...), spicy salsa, pico de gallo, and pollo mania soup! Chicken = tender, flavorful and tasty. El Pollo Loco (located in the same plaza) has nothing on them with the exception of cheaper pricing with their deals. Spicy Salsa = Very spicy, fresh and can't get enough of it. Pollo Mania Soup = homestyle soup with carrots, potatoes, chicken, celery, and onion.. with sides of their rice, tortillas lime & onions. It is fresh and VERY GOOD. LOVE LOVE LOVE their Orange Aji Sauce... garlicky goodness with a roasted peppery taste!!!!!! I will only go to El Monte just for this! I always call, & make pick up orders! Just more convenient to walk in. Pay, & walk out! I have had problems with wrong or missing orders from other places, but not here. Whole Chicken - $12.25 - Good mix of dark and white meat. Enough to feed a family of 4-5. Chicken is moist and juicy, even the white meat. Seasoning is very good. Skin is packed with flavor. The garlic sauce is amazing. The heat in the sauce was so hot and adds a nice punch. I know they are completely different, but I think I still prefer El Pollo Loco's flavor and seasoning more. My husband and I had high hopes for this chicken place. All the reviews looked pretty solid. We got here on a Wednesday evening about 730 pm. We pulled up right in front of the store and you can see the chickens just beautifully roasting. We ordered just one bird w tortillas and salsa for about $14.00. Let me tell you this i don't know how they can have the word Peruvian on the name even Pollo Inka in Gardena taste better (and of you tried before is not ) it came with some type of Mexican salsas(roja-pico de Gallo- etc) the salad supposed to have "vinagreta" type of ranch (but it was far from that). I've personally never tried any Peruvian food but I happened to work nearby and no where else to go for lunch so decided to stop by, and wow it has been the best food decision I've made. The lomo saltado also cokes with white rice (which is the best white rice I've tried) . Came in with high hopes with all the good reviews. Unfortunately they were dropped when when I started eating. Lomo Saltado- the marinate was too sour. Pollo with beans and Fries- this was so so. The pollo was juicy and a good seasoning. The Beans were not tasty, very bland. Sauces- i thought they would offer more sauces but they only had 3. None were interesting. I wouldn't come back. First time trying Chicha morada, purple corn drink, loved it. Tried that same drink at another place and Pollo manias was way better. It tastes kind hibiscus, a little cinnamony and sweet. Highly recommend if you like those flavors. The chicken was really flavorful and juicy. The rice is also really good and fluffy, not clumpy. Got to ask for the chimmichuri sauce, it's the best. There was also a salsa station with two different types of salsa. The service was extremely fast, I got my good within 5 minutes. All combos come with 2 sides, and a half-chicken combo will easily make 2 meals. Prices are a bit higher than other Pollo a la Brassa joints I've been to, but nothing too outrageous. Their chicken comes with tortillas!, a first [for me] for a Peruvian joint... though this place may be a Mexican/Peruvian hybrid. They don't have all the same Aji and Chimichurri sauces you would normally find at other Peruvian restaurants, but they do have a hot (red) salsa like mixture that goes well for your chicken+rice+tortilla combo.
