The food and the drinks are simple, but good. The service and atmosphere remind me of sitting in my best friend's kitchen having a few drinks and some basic home snacks. Personally, while in Guanajuato, I've made this place my home away from home, and the Miguel, who is running the place has made me feel like that's exactly where I am. And, what a view!!! See my photos! Give this place a try; I don't think you will regret it.

I happened upon it while I was heating myself up the mountain to see the Pipila Monument. I was kicking myself for opting to bypass the ride up the Funicular, but now that I'm here at Bésame Cafe, I know I made the right decision! It's off the beaten path definitely, but as they say, I prefer the road less travelled. This one is definitely worth the journey. It's amazing view alone makes this spot magnificent. But then paired with a lovely owner, delicious food and drinks, this spot was truly a highlight to the city. I had a nice refreshing tequila, some delightfully brewed coffee, and simple quesadillas paired with a dish of homemade puerco that is tal off the bone, perfectly spiced, heavenly goodness. This spot is barebones, certainly, without even a menu. But honestly, you might as well not come to Guanajuato if you don't come to this cafe!

Even on a busy…read moreSunday afternoon with no reservation, we were seated within minutes--already a pleasant surprise. We were fortunate enough to get a window table with a perfect view of the iconic Teatro Juárez. What a treat! The moment I tasted their tortilla soup, I was transported back in time. I first tried it twenty-five years ago, and with the very first spoonful, memories flooded back. It is still just as rich, comforting, and absolutely worth trying. Our party of three ordered the Menú del Día for only 300 pesos, which included an entrée, a first and second course, and a choice of coffee or dessert. Oh my goodness--the quality was outstanding. From the careful presentation of every dish, to the exceptional flavor, spotless restrooms, gracious staff, and unbeatable location, Casa Valadez easily earns five stars from me. If you're visiting Guanajuato, this restaurant is a must. Bonus: Their wine selection is surprisingly extensive!

The service excels in every way from the host to the waiters (a little bit old fashion because it's all men) to the bus boys. With the exception of the hummus, which was not very good, every other dish was excellent. All were beautifully presented. The ambience is fun all the way. Brightly lit, airy, and if you're a large enough group, you can sit by the open windows and watch the scene in the Square and at the Teatro. Best dishes were my fillet of salmon, companion's octopus with roasted potatoes, and their rice bowls.

However, I could say that this is the best tasting bone-in rib eye I have had in Mexico. Also our server, Gustavo, mad the experience amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant and the price is reasonable compared to good steak houses in USA. The manager, Jesus, was also very helpful and attentive. I wish I could leave 10 stars. Come and you will not be disappointed. I did visit in late April 2025

Our server was more than solicitous. He was charming and spoke perfect English. So far five stars! We ordered beef rare for one diner and tuna for the other. Orders took about an hour. We understood. The crowd was daunting. The problem was the food: Beef came well done, it was ordered rare, beef looked lonely , nothing else was on the plate. The veggies and the salad never came. When we mentioned this to the server he promised to look after us. He did . The veggies and the salad were smartly boxed for us to take home as we were leaving. Now the tuna, It is well known that tuna is a most unforgiving fish. You only need to sear it for a few seconds. Our came. It was a half an inch thick not thick as it should have been that is, an inch and a half at least. and it was fried and tasted like old leather shoe. Our desert was wonderful. It was.....The best part of the meal. Our server was an ANGEL He tried and succeeded in making us laugh and feel amused. We gave him a handsome tip. He deserved it. Would we go back? NO!
