Even as a formerly trained dancer, the Argentine tango can be tricky. It looks a lot easier than it is. It's is wildly fun, however! No need to stress or be anxious. No one but the instructor knows what their doing. The class started off slow and I thought I was going to breeze right thorough it because of my previous experience. Definitely not the case. The instructor Kristen was fantastic!! She comes and cuts in to help you improve your form. She knows how to teach people who have no idea what they are doing in the most gentle way. You will continually change partners the entire time. Don't fret of you don't have a partner. Go anyway. You will be taking turns dancing with everyone in the room. Girls will dance with girls and guys with guys. It's not a big deal so don't make it one. I can imagine it would be fun with a group of your girlfriends!! Maybe I'll bring mine back! They then offer workshop weekends which engaged couples take for there weddings or just those who want a crash course in tango. Single classes are just $10! They have a lot more info and pamphlets for different options and performances as well! It was a lot of fun! I can see how people get hooked. I will be back for sure! *we found free street parking right out front without an issue. ** They ask you bring another pair of shoes for dancing in so you are not tracking right from outside onto their new dance floor. *** First Friday's are fun in Fishtown! The dance studio will give you a list of participating local Businesses. I recommended the area highly for a new type of First Friday!

While I have yet to witness this particular occurrence outside of widespread cinematic romanticizations, dancing tango is (almost) as exciting as it looks in the movies. It certainly is fun, in any case. It's blatant from their mesmerizing performances that Andres and Meredith are master tangueros. In terms of teaching, they complement each other perfectly. Meredith provides a more cerebral approach to solidifying the technical aspects of tango, while Andres cultivates the artistic, emotional aspects of the dance. If you have any interest in tango whatsoever, or even a vague curiosity, I highly recommend giving them a try. You have nothing to lose, since they offer a free intro class (this is a great (cheap) date idea, by the way).

One of the most famous of these associations in Philly is the Lithuanian Music Hall in the heart of old Port Richmond. This center for Lithuanian immigrants in the Delaware Valley is a spacious facility with a large gathering space on the first floor and a pretty ballroom on the second floor. On Lithuanian festival weekend both floors can get quite cowded. Now do you ever have a yearning for some of the popular Lithuanian comfort foods? One of my favorite Lithuanian dishes is Kugelis and I couldn't wait to eat it at the recent Lithuanian festival. This baked potato and egg pudding with its caramelized onions topping melts in your mouth. Of course Lithuania is well-known for its flavorful Blynai (potato pancakes) but I like even more Lithuanian Balandelai - the flavorful stuffed cabbages. Lithuanian kielbasa are closely related to their Polish counterparts.....just try to eat only one!?! The dessert table contains many Lithuanian sweet specialties including Melanie raspberry cookies. In addition many vendors have set up tables to display and sell the famous and beautiful Lithuanian amber jewelry. If you are in the Philly area for the annual Lithuanian food festival at the old Music Hall, check it out .... and make sure you have an empty stomach when you do!

I am by no means an edm/house music kind of person and that's what they played on every floor but I found myself jamming and feeling free. The amount of space there now is, is awesome as you don't feel overstimulated by the crowd. The fact that there's an outdoor area for people to smoke/just get some fresh air without having to leave the venue was something I didn't think I'd love so much. Absolutely would recommend this for everyone to take their friends out for a night out One thing to note - it was ticketed to get in and was $17 but I'm not sure if this is a thing that happens often

There's not a single bumper sticker or graffito to be seen. And drinks are still 2025 cheap... I think. But the inside is just kinda all black and neon... like "hey, we're cyberpunk now." Barbary, you were already cyberpunk when you were just regular punk existing at the edge of technological apocalypse, bro. Cyberpunk is crusty and biohacky, but I don't even know if that's what you're going for. Anyway, the place is nice. It even has what looks like a little bottle service area. I think back in the 2010s Barbary, the closest thing to bottle service would have been the dancing proletariat seizing the means of drunkenness from the owners and sharing cheap tequila amongst the people. And that's what I miss the most. Did the Barbary lose the jank and lack of maintenance money that made it an institution, or am I just old? The answer is yes.

The whole construction of the studio level ups far beyond any other medium-large set up I seen and revivals if not, beats many NYC studios. It is hard for me to describe how amazing it is but let me quote their webage so I won't paraphrase anything. "The New Studio Crash is a beautiful recording studio built from the ground up to be world class in the field. With a nice large control room, a huge 840sq ft. live room with 14 ft slanted ceilings, an isolation room, a vocal booth, and two separate amp closets we have plenty of isolated spaces to get great sounds without the need to overdub everything. This makes it possible to record very large groups live and still have plenty of elbowroom and acoustic separation. Construction. Many studios may beautiful on the surface, like ours, but what's really important here is the stuff you don't see. So what is inside the walls and below the floor? Our construction entailed room-within-a-room construction. This means the walls you see are actually TWO (2) walls; each of which have two layers of " drywall and special acoustic insulation for sound absorption and a 6" air-space between them. These walls are floating on a layer of neoprene for even more sound isolation. The two pieces of glass in the 8 foot window separating the control and live rooms are each 1/2" thick, adding to the sound control. Under our new strand woven bamboo flooring, each room has its own individual "floating" concrete slab, decoupling it from the other rooms' floors. Even the HVAC was carefully planned, with every send and return having it's own insulated flex-duct all the way back to the HVAC unit. We even installed that HVAC unit in a separate building to keep it's mechanical noise far away from the studio space. The new studio's room acoustics are wonderful. Careful consideration in the design was spent on choosing room ratios as mathematically non-correlated as possible, in order to achieve evenly distributed axial, tangential, and oblique room modes. This means we get an amazingly smooth and accurate frequency response in the room ambience. This is something practically impossible to achieve without building from scratch like we did here." Mike is a PRO PRO PRO engineer. He has a new control surface going from a C24 to a D-Command as well as some focusrite preamps. He can also work on analog consoles as well as digital. The only downside is the breakroom can use some working on (unfinished floors) and parking is a bit troublesome, (I parked in the CVS lot across the way) but what can you do?!? I'd take that perfect mix over anything! See you soon again Mike!
