The Milpitas Police department is the epitome of why Milpitas is a great town to live in. Every…read moresingle time I call they respond within 30 minutes. One time my son tested the new VOIP phone by dialing 9-11 and then hung up. Little did we know, just by doing that, they sent police officers to check on our well-being. Good luck getting police to respond to you within 3 hours or at all if you're in San Jose and calling for help for anything short of a murder. The police station is also a great place to meet up to sell on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace.

Milpitas PD is definitely present when you need them. Within minutes, even with traffic/ lanes of…read morecars with no where to go, or not even 5 minutes of calling 9-1-1 when I was rear ended (on 11/30/24 on Calaveras Blvd), Milpitas PD was first on the scene, took my statement and made sure I was taken care of. Thanks Officer Pizzo! Proceeding that, the visit to the police station or the records office was pretty efficient (granted that you arrive first thing in the morning). The two times I made a trip here last month, there was like one other person (s) ahead of me, but each encounter was quick and no long waits if you call their line. Parking at the MPD is not a problem, depending on the time of day you come in. My biggest gripe is that MPD charges you $15 for a CD your laptop or CD player doesn't recognize. Or maybe it's just my laptop. But that's why it's important to take your own pictures and videos at the scene of an accident, crime, photo-op, etc. Also MPD charges for paper copies of your report when everything is digital nowadays! This is my hometown and I've lived in Milpitas since the first grade (or early 90s) and as an adult, I can say I feel pretty safe in Milpitas, thanks to our community of police officers, admin, fire and EMTs. We are protected because of your commitment to our safety (and have a sense of normalcy in our diverse community). As always, thank you!

(1) A decade ago, driving on El Camino Real late at night with very few cars on the road, a MV police cruiser started a lane change into my lane without signaling. I tapped the brakes, and the officer aborted his lane change. We both stopped at the traffic light. When the light changed, since there was no vehicle behind me, I waited a few seconds to step on the gas in order to give the officer a chance to get ahead of me. Instead, he turned on his lights, pulled me over, and asked if I had been drinking. In, the moment, it was challenging to explain without mentioning his failure to signal. (2) Five years ago, I moved to my current home, a block off of El Camino Real. I couldn't sleep and took a walk at midnight. A police cruiser pulled over next to me, and a lovely female African American female officer asked if I was okay. I explained I was taking a walk, and she left. (3) Tonight, I wanted to charge my electric vehicle at the grocery store, but all the chargers were taken. So I left my vehicle to charge at a car dealership on El Camino Real. When I came back to get it just after midnight, I found that the dealer had blocked off access on both exits. In walking back and forth through the parking lot, I triggered some motion detectors, because a very grainy security recording started playing. It sounded threatening but I couldn't make out the words except for "security." So I called MV police station's non-emergency number. I explained the situation, and asked the woman whether it was okay for me to leave, since I was not committing a crime and I couldn't understand the recorded broadcast, which was a private message and not a police message. She said "I don't know, I'm not there." I explained I just needed to know whether it would be better for the police or security to show up, or if I could leave on foot. "I don't know, I'm not there." Could she please send a police car? "No; none are available because of an emergency." Okay, then. I hung up, and left on foot. * * * Three encounters isn't much, but the first and third really don't inspire confidence. I would consider avoiding El Camino Real at night, but that's hard to do since I live here.
