In fact the place was pretty awesome like something out of a dance movie ..circa 1987. Actually, correction this was not just dance this was hip-hop, which not only requires co-ordination but an immense dedication to the beat and I have trouble finding the beat, even when its connected to my I pod and ringing over and over in between my ears. Although advertised as a beginners class, I did not feel this was the case. There was so much assumed knowledge here that it felt like 95% of the class were regulars and the dance instructor was not about to cater for the creatively challenged 5% that constantly lagged behind. The instructor was off in her own little world dancing her dance offs and winner her trophies, A+ for enthusiasm lady but can you please put the instruction in instructor? Many Thanks.

A single class is $17 (while getting a class card is the cheapest option if you can go frequently). As a frequent student at Broadway Dance Center in NYC, this place is comparable, but with a much smaller crowd. I took advanced jazz technique on Friday at 12:30, but had a sub teacher that I didn't catch the name of. Her class was very fun and we warmed up to a lot of Beyonce (my fave)! It was pretty advanced paced, but intermediate technique level, which was a really good balance. What I loved most was that it was a judgement free zone. My class had about 8 people total and the instructor picked up my name within minutes. Everyone in the class was very friendly and helpful, which is hard to get back in NYC with all of the competition. There were a few performers in the class as well and I never got a snobby vibe! It made the class really fun :) Definitely worth taking a class. I hope to get back before the end of my holiday!

This venue is also home to ballet performances, stage productions, city tours, and workshops for people of all ages. It's definitely worth checking out their schedule of events. It's a very easy walk from Flinders St Station.

A great hang out spot where there is a Melbourne Festival lounge available for when this event is on, and of course this establishment is also home to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl for concerts and christmas carol events in the Domain area. The main entrance is situated on St Kilda Road, just opposite the NGV International, and it is divine with quality theatre and classical events. It was interesting taking the tour of the facility, which goes for about an hour off hand. I think off hand the earliest time is 11am, and for $15 a pop; not the best value for money in town; however it was time fairly well spent, plus your given a glass of bubbly all inclusive. A great day design plan would be to enjoy this tour, and then head further down St Kilda Road till you get to the domain and the botanical gardens to finish it off with some high quality nature. Overall, I think this establishment will be more inviting and spectacular once the renovation works are complete. We will have to wait until 2012 and see.

I signed up for the 2 week unlimited but only went once. The music was great and fun, which definitely got you in the mood, but I found the class hard to follow. And there was also little correction by the teacher. But if you're up for a bit of fun with your girlfriends then I'd say head down, but if you want to really feel like you've had a good stretch session, I'd probably try somewhere else.

I would recommend for beginners to go to a school for a while to learn each of the positions properly before heading here. This also isn't a place where people will shoot you evil stares if you laugh during class. Or sing. Or dance. A lot of people have questioned me as to how hip hop and yoga could mix, when yoga is meant to be about relaxing. This is a great misconception about yoga, I feel. Traditionally speaking, yogasana was developed to aid yogis in sitting still for long periods of time. But, in modern western practice, yoga improves core strength, physical strength, flexibility, balance, and encourages you to focus on the moment and breath. For me dancing, and in particular hip hop dancing, encourages these benefits but with a joyful disposition. So to me, the two marry seamlessly! The class is taught as a Vinyasa flow, and combines a mixture of some strong standing postures, ashtanga sequence, and pilates inspired ab-work, all set to groovy beats ranging from Nelly to Notorious B.I.G. I think the thing I enjoy most about Yoga 213 is that it doesn't take itself seriously, but you can enjoy all the benefits of awareness and present moment you get out of yoga without lululemon judgement. Overall, not a traditional practice, but a good fun yoga workout for those that don't take themselves or their yoga too seriously.
